Chapter 2

Author: Starlet
Julian crossed his arms and let out a mocking laugh, the corner of his mouth curling up.

"Kent, I don't think you understand the situation.

"I'm the CEO's special assistant and a shareholder. And you're telling me to get out?

"You should really take a look at yourself. If Ms. Shaw hadn't taken a liking to you, you wouldn't even be sitting in that sales manager seat.

"Right now, go and apologize to Ms. Shaw. Then…"

His voice grated on my nerves. I stood up and drove my fist straight into his face.

He staggered and fell to the ground just as Cecilia pushed the door open.

Her expression tightened instantly. She rushed over, pulled Julian into her arms, and asked if he was okay. Then, she looked up at me, her eyes sharp and venomous.

"Kent, you've gone too far. Julian and I are just colleagues.

"Even if you're jealous of him, you can't just hit him. Why can't you talk things out like a normal person?"

Jealous?

Cecilia had read too much into the situation.

"Cecilia, you've got it wrong. I hit him because he wouldn't stop running his mouth. It was unbearable.

"As for you, you're worth nothing in my eyes. I'm not about to get jealous over someone like you."

The moment those words left my mouth, fear filled Cecilia's eyes.

"You really see me like that? He hasn't even touched me. Honey, you've misunderstood us!"

I sat back down in my chair and did not spare her another glance.

"You're already holding each other. What's there to explain?

"Sign the divorce papers. After that, you two can do whatever you want.

"Now, both of you can get out of my office. I don't want to see either of you."

Cecilia broke into sobs. Julian could only pull her along as they left, trying to comfort her.

"Cecilia, you're the one in charge. Why are you scared of him? If he keeps this up, just fire him. He lives off you. What gives him the right to act like this?"

They had not even been gone ten minutes when Julian posted a message in the company group chat.

[@everyone Sales Manager Kent has been fired!]

I actually laughed. It was the kind of laugh that came from pure anger. He really thought he mattered that much.

I ignored it. After finishing my work, I went downstairs, planning to head home.

Instead, I was surrounded. Reporters and self-media bloggers swarmed me the moment I stepped outside.

"There are reports that Ms. Shaw of Ascendant Group is preparing to end her relationship with you and marry a newly hired intern. Is that true?"

"Others say this may just be a misunderstanding. However, we've heard that, because you believed it, you cut off the medication for Mr. Wallace's mother, which led to her death. Is that accurate?"

"Why would you make such a decision without verifying the facts?"

"Ms. Shaw seems to have already cut ties with you and has fired you. What is your response?"

The anger inside me felt like it was drilling straight through my chest, and I knew exactly where those rumors had come from, because I knew Cecilia well enough to know she simply did not have the guts. It was Julian.

With security clearing a path, I barely managed to get into my car.

On the drive home, Ascendant Group's scandal had already shot to the top of the trending charts.

The comments online were tearing me apart. The company's stock price was crashing.

Some of my clients even recognized my car on the road. They blocked my path just to shout insults, calling me cold-blooded, saying they were canceling all cooperation with me.

The moment I pushed open my front door, I froze. A pair of unfamiliar men's dress shoes sat on the rack.

If they were not Julian's, whose were they?

That idiot Cecilia actually brought him home?

I cursed under my breath as I changed into slippers and walked inside.

In the kitchen, Julian was holding a piece of meat, feeding it to Cecilia. The smile on her face, soft and glowing, was the kind of look people had when they were in love.

When she saw me, she panicked.

"Honey…don't misunderstand. I didn't have a free hand, so I asked Julian to help me taste the seasoning…"

I pulled the divorce papers out of my briefcase again.

"You don't need to explain anything. Just sign it. And from now on, don't call me your husband anymore."

Cecilia stared at me in disbelief, her eyes filling with tears. "Honey…are you really…divorcing me?"

Before I could answer, Julian exploded, practically jumping into my face. "Kent! Do you have no shame at all?"

The first image showed a swimming facility. I overestimated myself. Please don't hold it against me."If you're still angry, take it out on me. She had crossed my bottom line. I could not accept it.I pointed at the door of the conference room and said, "You and your assistant are both fired. Now, take him and leave. Don't interrupt the rest of our meeting."Cecilia collapsed into her chair, her face blank. It was as if her mind had completely shut down.Julian stood beside her, pale as paper, not daring to say another word.I did not bother with them anymore. I called in security and had them escorted out. After they were gone, Sarah finally sat down and continued the discussion on behalf of the client. Together, we finalized the remaining details with Ascendant Group. The client was satisfied. The partnership would continue. After work, I invited Sarah out to dinner. She smiled, a little teasingly, and asked, "Haven't we already resolved everything for the next phase of our cooperation? Why are you still treating me to dinner?"I laughed. Julian looked like he could not sit still. The words clearly hit him harder than anything else."What? But… This… How is this possible? How did it turn out like this?"Cecilia's expression turned icy."There's nothing between us. Even if there were, even if I really divorced Kent, I still wouldn't choose you."Julian froze. "Then, what am I?""A man who tried to climb up the social ladder by using a woman. Someone who wanted to attach himself to me. Isn't that obvious enough?"Julian opened his mouth, but no words came out. "I… This… I…"Cecilia kept staring at him."I got close to you on purpose because Kent didn't treat me the way he used to. I just wanted to make him jealous."Bringing you home yesterday was also deliberate. I wanted to provoke him, to make him realize how important I am to him."Otherwise, why would I ever let trash like you feed me? And just happen to let Kent see it?""You…" Julian's world seemed to collapse in that instant."You used me?" His voice w

Cecilia stared at the contract in disbelief. She picked it up and carefully checked the signature line.It was not stamped with Ascendant Group's official seal. It was signed with Kent's personal name."How is this possible?" Flustered and furious, she turned to Julian. "Didn't you say you worked on this project for months and closed the deal yourself? Why is Kent's name on it instead of the company seal?"Julian stammered, unable to give a clear answer. In that instant, Cecilia understood everything. He had taken the credit right in front of her.She turned back to me, her face full of regret. "Honey, I…I really didn't know it was you…""Enough." I cut her off."I told you before that I was the one who closed that deal. Did you believe me? You chose to trust a new intern over your husband of three years."However, it doesn't matter anymore. From now on, I'm not your husband."Cecilia looked like she was about to fall apart."No, that's not it. Honey, things really aren't wha

"Cecilia already lowered herself to cook for you. What else are you unhappy about?"Julian pointed at me and started yelling. "I even came to your house to apologize in person. What more do you want? I'm warning you; don't push your luck!"I laughed when I heard that. Then, I took off my tailored suit and my expensive watch. I did not want them to get damaged. As I walked toward him, I asked, "Julian, do you really deserve to use the words in person? Is your apology worth anything?"Julian did not care. He kept shouting. "Still better than you. If Cecilia hadn't lifted you up, you wouldn't even be qualified to talk to me!"Just as I was about to make a move, he suddenly dropped to a squat at my feet and grabbed onto my leg."What? Are you going to hit me again?"Go ahead, hit me as hard as you want. The more you hit me, the more Cecilia will feel sorry for me."And the worse you'll look in her eyes. She'll definitely divorce you. And when that happens, your wife will become my
