The meeting

Walking into my reservation in the resort of Balearic Islands was really amazing, everything here is splendid. It seems like this was the best time of the year to be here, but how was I supposed to have fun all by myself when I can't even get pass this hurt.

I can't help the little stab in my chest at the thought of my ex. Dean was the quarter back of the football team and one of the hottest guys on campus.

I remembered how we met after an incident in the cafe where I worked on campus and how he frequently visited our cafe and would always order and stay around a bit longer than he did before and his friendlier manner to me.

I wasn't completely immune to his good looks but I couldn't bring myself to be near him. It wasn't long before he asked me out then, but I turned him down, not because I didn't like him then, I was still riling and living with some traumatic experience from an almost sexual assault in my life then, thank God for Eva.

Eva had been my support system all throughout school even now and being here without her isn't fun, maybe this trip was a bad idea after all. I miss her so much, with her ever bubbly presence. I feel a bit out of place but she has that exhibition in LA and Vegas this week and has worked so hard for it. I couldn't possibly have her here, I'm always rooting for her.

This was way tougher than I had imagined but since I was here I might as well enjoy the view.

There was a blonde surfer eyeing me from the beach. He smiled lazily at me "want to watch me while I surf and you know, we could also have fun while at it," he winked at me.

Okay, that was just awful but wasn't that what I wanted, to get laid no attachments. "Nah, I'm good."

Spotting a cruise ship, I decided to hop on it and see were it leads, maybe to my doom.

I think getting on board was a mistake because they all looked like elite, Socialites and models in here, definitely not my scene. The cruise ship was open to all tourists in our reservation, looking around it seemed like a celebration was on going.

"Excuse me, but what's this party about," I asked the gorgeous blonde lady in blue designer blazers beside me to get better information.

She eyed me belligerently, "This is an after party to celebrate the Voss-Delaroz investment, are you among the models or are you with the staff."

Okay, what was that, I guess this part of the ship was just for snobbish people.

"You..."before I could speak a stylish looking man came and whispered something to her, which had her scurrying away.

Okay, that was weird. Now all that was left was for me to try and enjoy the ride. Taking a glass of champagne from the table, I downed the smooth liquid.

The sea was calm and I just stood at the edge of the deck, my fingers curling lightly around the railing as the cruise ship kept sailing the waters. It was still morning and I still felt out of place in here.

This was supposed to be an adventurous vacation for me yet this didn't feel like one. I decided to take in the beauty of being on this ship while downing another glass of champagne I got from one of the waiters.

Everything about the view was beautiful, the soft wind, the music, the view of all the resorts from here and yet it didn't really seem to do justice to how I felt inside.

With a sigh I decided to head back inside.

"Fresh start," I murmured.

As I turned to head back toward the main deck, I noticed a corridor by the side, with dim light, which was more quiet than the rest of the ship.

"Perfect" I said to myself.

I slipped in without thinking much, I paused at the sound of metals shifting, someone was here.

He was crouched a few feet ahead, focused on a panel in the wall. His sleeves were rolled up, dark shirt and a wrench in hand. He definitely wasn't a guest.

For a moment, I considered turning back but then he spoke up without turning back.

"I don't think guests are supposed to be here" his voice was husky but calm with a hint of an accent to it.

I leaned lightly against the wall instead of leaving.

"Funny," I replied "I was just thinking the same about you." I probably should just mind my own business.

He turned to look at me, and I drew a little air in. I was not some boy crazy girl but this man here was captivating.

His black shirt was slightly undone at the collar and his sleeves rolled up. He definitely didn't look like someone who fixed things for a living.

Sharp jawlines, high cheekbones, piercing blue eyes and a light stubble.

But he looked away just quickly as he had turned back.

"I have work here," he said simply.

I raised a brow slightly even though he couldn't see it.

"Do you?"

He didn't say anything but I wasn't about to just leave like that.

"So what are you fixing?"

"Something that wasn't broken until someone decided to look at it."

Then, there was just silence.

"Don't you have somewhere else to be?" he exhaled exhaustedly after a moment.

"Probably," I said "But everywhere else looks the same."

"And this doesn't"  his voice booming.

"No, I think I'll rather be in here than up there." I utter lightly.

This time he stood up and turned completely toward me, he easily towered over me.

Staring intently at me, tilting his head to the side a bit like he was trying to study me or intimidate me.

"Do you always wander into restricted areas?" he quizzed.

I shrugged lightly.

"Only when I'm trying not to think."

"About what?" he inquired again, his voice low, he was stalking dangerously closer to me now, I took several steps back hitting the wall. His manly scent was assaulting my nose, we were just inches apart, looking up into his blue eyes, I think my stomach did a little somersault.

I hesitated but just for a second, then I shook my head.

"Nothing that matters."

His gaze lingered on my face, then on my lips for a while, maybe trying to read me or something else but he didn't push further, Instead he stepped back.

"You should go," he said softly.

"Are you always this welcoming?" I say sardonically.

A flicker of something crossed his face, amusement maybe.

"Only when I mean it." a knowing smile on his face.

I smiled slightly at that. Then pushed off the wall but instead of leaving immediately, I stalked towards him accidentally tripping over one of his tools but he caught me before I could hit the ground, his hand snaking around my waist while the other hand caught my wrist, steading me but he didn't let go immediately.

"what's your name?" I quizzed.

He paused for a while before replying.

"Damian"

"Cassie" I replied, receding after a while. "Try not to break anything else Damian."

"You first"

Suddenly there were voices coming from outside the door.

"Damian" the female voice called out.

"I don't think he's here, let's just go" a male voice shot back.

"Are you hiding fr..." before I could finish he moved swiftly to my side and covered my mouth with his hands. His manly scent assaulting my nose, he was too close for me to think properly.

"Shhh" he whispered placing his index fingers on his lips signaling me to keep quiet and he takes my hand hurriedly leading me away through a back door.

  • The Voss's undoing   Chapter 38 - Geneva

What no, we were about to...I protest inside my mind. I want to draw him back and fling myself into his arms, kissing him passionately but I only end up nodding my head.I hid my disappointment as I grab my things and exist his office. Heading straight to the elevator, I see his driver waiting for me at the same spot he did the last time. I give him a small smile in acknowledgement and we head down to the underground parking lot. Where his Rolls-Royce phantom is parked. He drives through the bustling street of Manhattan in a blaze and before long we're parked in front of my apartment. I thank him, forcing myself to walk straight toward my apartment, I was feeling drained of energy. Maybe it was the day's stress finally taking its toll on me or maybe it was...I enter the apartment feeling exhausted."Looks like Eva isn't home yet." so I head straight to the shower to rejuvenate. Maybe the cool water on my body would help me function properly. But the shower does little to nothing for

  • The Voss's undoing   Chapter 37- One Step Close

I spent my Sunday alone in my apartment, trying to clear my head by arranging and cleaning up the apartment. I'd spoken with Eva yesterday and her dad's situation wasn't that bad anymore, so she was coming back today, after speaking with her mum over the phone and sending my regards to her dad we hung up.Matt had also been really occupied in the hospital since this week, that it was almost impossible to see him all week. Through out last night I'd been trying to wrap my head around the events of the last few days at work. What was even going on with me? What even happened? Honestly, absolutely nothing. Yes, he just noticed that I didn't have breakfast and decided to buy me lunch, it wasn't supposed to be a big deal so why was I making a mountain out of a mole hill. Shouldn't I at least be grateful that he got me lunch instead of letting me starve. But it did hurt when he said, "Good night Miss Adams." It was just so formal, so...Urgh! I really need a reality check. Maybe I'll go to

  • The Voss's undoing   Chapter 36 - Small Details

By the end of my second day as an executive liaison, I'd learnt one thing. Voss Enterprises never stopped moving, I mean not that I didn't know that already but it sort of brought it to my consciousness. There was always another meeting, always another acquisition, another charity initiative, another country, another deadline. It was intimidating but strangely, I liked it. It pushed me beyond what I'd like to think were my limits. No two days were the same here.Pedro appeared outside my office just after ten."Mr Voss has moved the strategy meeting to conference room three, I sent you a mail on that.""Sorry, I didn't really check." I try searching for it, only then did I see it.I gathered my notebook and tablet. "Any particular reason?" I ask struggling to keep up with him.He smiled politely. "He said the lighting is better."I laugh at how crazy that was. What was it with these billionaires and their spontaneity."I didn't realize conference rooms had personalities."He just giv

  • The Voss's undoing   Chapter 35 - Change

Later that afternoon, I found myself standing in Damian's office door. I knock before entering, standing at the entrance."You asked to see me?"He looked up from the stack of documents in front of him."I did, come in." there's a flicker of amusement in his eyes as looks at me lingering at the doorway. "Don't worry, I don't bite."I stepped inside his office. It was my first time in here and boy, it screamed elegance at it's peak.Damian and Sebastian's offices were the only two that occupied the entire corner of the top floor. Inside his office had a floor-to-ceiling windows framing the glittering Manhattan skyline and Hudson river like a living masterpiece. Rich walnut paneling, charcoal marble floors, and soft ambient lighting gave the space a quiet, commanding elegance. A massive custom built desk sat at the center, immaculate except for a laptop, a leather portfolio, and a crystal pen holder. Behind him, shelves displayed a carefully curated collection of books, awards, and mo

  • The Voss's undoing   Chapter 34- New Responsibilities

The elevator doors slid open onto the executive floor of Voss Enterprises. For the first time I wasn't here as a guest or to to attend a single planning meeting. I sort of belonged here now, well as much as anyone who didn't work for Voss Enterprises could. The thought made me smile.A temporary security badge hung neatly from the navy lanyard around my neck that had:EXECUTIVE LIAISON - DELUXA CELEBRATIONI adjusted it self consciously before stepping out. Almost immediately a voice greeted me."Miss Adams." I turn to the direction of the person.Pedro Delgado, Damian's assistant, offered a warm smile to me."Good morning." he offers professionally."Good morning." I replied with a soft smile. He extends a tablet towards me."Mr Voss asked me to show you to your office." he's leading me through the hallway. My steps faltered for a second. "My office." I blurt. He turns to look at me. "It's a shared workspace, so..." he gives his head a little shake."Since you'll be working closely w

  • The Voss's undoing   Chapter 33- Family

CassieKatherine gathered all the senior staff in Deluxa Celebration this morning in our conference room."I have good news." she says.Everyone was expectant, speculating what it could be, maybe a bigger client or something like that."We got six new big clients in less than a week after we handled the Voss company's gala, they all said they loved how well the event turned out and the venue decor and they are all want us to handle their next event.""Which means we have all got to be more creative and up on our toes, again congratulations to everyone that handled the Voss event, Cassie you did a really good job." almost everyone concurs, nodding their heads."Also, the Voss Enterprises has requested that Cassie become their dedicated liaison."I blink twice to ensure this wasn't a dream or joke."Their what."Katherine produces a folder and hands it over to me."They don't want a different planner every time, so they specifically requested for you since you did an amazing job with t

  • The Voss's undoing   Chapter 10 - The unexpected Departure

Damian's POVI meant it last night when I told her I would take her to Italy or anywhere else she wanted and that really seemed to bother me a lot on multiple levels. Sure I'd taken a few women on some trips in the past but this, somehow was different.I hadn't been to Italy in a very long time but

  • The Voss's undoing   Chapter 9 - The Almost Reveal

CassieDamian made everything feel easy, easy enough for me to forget I wasn't supposed to be doing this. This was supposed to be a one time thing but I couldn't seem to just let go. He is too dangerous for me, I doubt I'll be able to recover from this; this was becoming more, I shouldn't want more

  • The Voss's undoing   Chapter 8- Damian

Being with Damian is amazing, is this how it always is or is it just because of him. I mean, i know i don't particularly have prior knowledge but everything with him is just perfect and easy. Despite meeting him just yesterday. We leave the lounge sometime late at night, heading toward the resorts,

  • The Voss's undoing   Discovering new things

To say I had just fun was an understatement, it was pure Bliss. After jet skiing which was crazy, I some how ended up enjoying it more than I should have and requesting that we go on one more ride everytime, this moment was priceless. We went paddle boarding, cycling and even tried different dishes
