KENDRICK

“What were they thinking, letting her live with you?” Victor asked, leaning back lazily in the chair across from my desk like he owned the space.

“Safety.” I shrugged, flipping through the folder in front of me without bothering to look up. “Apparently, her father thinks London will collapse if she spends three weeks alone.”

Victor snorted. “Or maybe he realized his daughter is living with one of the richest men in the country and thought she’d be safer inside your walls than outside them.”

I signed the last page of the contract and tossed the folder aside. “You’re dramatic.”

“No,” he corrected with a grin. “I’m observant.”

Through the glass walls, London stretched beneath the fading light, clean, structured, predictable—unlike my thoughts.

“You’re distracted,” Victor observed.

“I’m working.”

“That’s not an answer.”

I leaned back slightly. “Then ask a better question.”

He grinned like that was exactly what he wanted. “What’s she like?”

My pen paused for half a second, not enough for him to miss it. “Who?” I asked flatly.

“You know who.”

I set the pen down. “She’s staying in my house. That’s what she’s like.”

Victor tilted his head. “That’s not an answer either.”

I stood, grabbing my suit jacket from the chair behind me. “You spend too much time analyzing people.”

Victor laughed as he followed me out of the office. “Occupational hazard.”

The elevator ride downstairs was quiet for all of ten seconds before he spoke again. “Kennn… what’s she like?”

I shoved my hands into my pockets and studied him. “Why do you care?”

“Because your expression changes when I mention her.”

“My expression never changes.”

“That’s exactly why this is concerning.”

I snickered. Victor had known me long enough to notice things other people missed, and unfortunately for me, he wasn’t entirely wrong. There was something about Yulia that stayed in my head longer than it should have.

Maybe it was the way she looked at me like she couldn’t decide whether I was dangerous or fascinating. Or because she didn’t try to impress me the way most people did.

The moment we stepped outside the building, my phone buzzed in my pocket.

Damon.

I answered. “What’s up?”

“Tell me you’re not working all night again,” Damon complained dramatically through the speaker.

Victor groaned beside me. “Why do you always sound drunk?”

“Because life is beautiful, Victorrr!” He slurred.

I stepped toward my car. “What do you want, D?”

“Street race tonight. Usual spot. Nine o’clock.” Damon paused before adding, “Weekend’s officially started, gentlemen.”

Victor immediately grinned. “Now that sounds like a better idea than listening to Kendrick pretend he doesn’t have emotions.”

“I never said that.”

“You didn’t have to.”

Damon laughed loudly through the phone. “So are you coming or not?”

I glanced toward the city skyline briefly before answering. “Yeah, I’ll be there.”

“Good. Bring that Aston Martin of yours. I’m tired of embarrassing people alone.”

The call ended shortly after.

Victor watched me. “You’re coming for the race… or for distraction?”

I unlocked the car. “Get in.”

He did, still smiling like he had already won something.

The drive home was smoother than usual, music quietly playing through the speakers. Normally, driving helped clear my thoughts.

Tonight, it didn’t. Because somehow, despite meetings, contracts, and conversations, I still kept thinking about Yulia.

I exhaled through my nose. “She’s gonna be a problem.”

By the time I pulled into the driveway, I was already irritated with myself. The front doors opened before I reached them.

“Good evening, sir,” Edwin, one of my security guards, greeted politely.

I nodded once as I stepped inside, handing him my keys.

“Welcome back, Mr. Fernsby.” Tessa approached me immediately.

“Thank you. Dinner.”

“Yes, sir. And Miss Adley is in the theater room.”

That made me pause. “The theater room?”

“She said she was bored,” she added carefully.

I didn’t respond. I made my way down the hallway quietly, and soft lights dimmed throughout the house. The closer I got to the theater, the more I heard the low sound of a movie playing.

I stepped inside, and there she was, curled into the oversized couch like she belonged there, completely focused on the screen. For a moment, I just watched her.

The room’s dim lighting softened her features, making her look relaxed and more tempting. My gaze drifted slowly over her face before lower thoughts threatened to follow. The kind that made me wonder what she’d look like beneath me instead of sitting innocently in my theater room.

Damn!

I cleared my throat to catch her attention. Her head snapped toward me.

“Oh.” She stood quickly, like she hadn’t expected me to exist in that moment. “Hi.”

A faint smile tugged at my lips, seeing how flustered she looked. “You look like you got caught doing something illegal.”

“That depends…” Her lips twisted to the side. “Am I allowed in here?”

“Yes.” Wetting my lips, I looked her over. “You seem comfortable already.”

Her shoulders relaxed slightly. “I got bored upstairs, so Tessa showed me this room.”

I nodded once, stepping further inside. “Good choice.”

Silence settled briefly between us before declaring, “I wanted to let you know I was back.”

“Sure.” She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Welcome back.”

My attention lingered on her longer than necessary. There it was again, that pull. I should’ve left right then. Instead, I asked. “You want to come out tonight?”

“Huh?” She was confused.

I chuckled at her expression. “There’s a street race happening in Canary Wharf tonight,” I explained. “My friend is hosting, and he invited me.”

Her brows lifted. “Street racing?”

“You sound disappointed.”

“No,” she shook her head immediately. “Just… surprised.”

“Why?” I asked curiously.

“You don’t exactly seem like the type.”

I grinned mischievously. “There’s a lot you don’t know about me yet.”

The words hung between us longer than they should have. Then slowly, she smiled. For some reason, that smile hit harder than it had any right to.

“I’ll go,” she agreed.

“Okay,” I checked my wristwatch. “We leave at nine.”

A soft smile split her face. “I’ll be ready.”

I nodded once before turning toward the door. Taking Yulia with me tonight was probably a bad idea, and the worst part? I was looking forward to it anyway.

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 51: An Unexpected Reunion

YULIAAfter everything that happened with Sophie, I no longer trusted anything. I had learned the hard way that the people closest to you could sometimes be the ones hiding the darkest intentions. So when my phone rang that Saturday morning and an unknown number appeared on the screen, I stared at it for a long moment.I almost ignored it. Almost, but something made me answer.“Hello?”“Yulia?”I frowned slightly. The voice sounded familiar, but I couldn't immediately place it. “Yes?”“It’s Celeste.”I stayed quiet for a second, searching my memory. “Celeste?”She laughed softly. “Yes. Kendrick’s cousin. The one you met at his house.”The name finally clicked.“Oh.” I sat up straighter. “Yes, I remember you now.”“Good. I was worried you’d forgotten me.”A small smile appeared on my face. “I don’t forget people easily.”“I know.” Her voice softened. “Especially after everything that happened.”My smile disappeared slightly. There it was, the reason. I knew it.“You heard about it.”“E

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 50: A Love Worth Fighting For

KENDRICKIt had been seven days. Seven days since everything had fallen apart, watching Yulia’s face break when she realized the person she trusted had been the one destroying her life.I stared at my phone sitting on my desk, still no new messages. No missed calls. Nothing. I picked it up again and dialed her number, straight to ringing. Once, twice, and continued, then voicemail.I exhaled sharply and ended the call before leaving another message: Call me, Peaches.I placed the phone back on the desk and leaned into my chair, dragging both hands through my hair. This was the one thing I never knew how to handle. Business? I could negotiate million-pound contracts without blinking. Threats? I knew exactly how to deal with them. Enemies? I knew how to destroy them. But Yulia? The woman I loved refusing to talk to me? That was something I couldn't fix with strategy.I looked toward the floor-to-ceiling windows of my office, watching London move beneath me.I hated that she was hurting

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 49: The Missed Call

YULIAI was finally starting to settle into something that felt like a routine. School kept my mind busy, which was exactly what I needed. The second things slowed down, my thoughts had a habit of drifting back to what had happened a week earlier—the breakup between Kendrick and me, and the revelation that Sophie had been the stalker. That day no longer sat as heavily on my chest as it had before. I'd stopped blaming myself for putting so much trust in Sophie, even though a small part of me still wondered whether my dad and Daphne would have found out about my secret relationship with Kendrick if Sophie hadn't exposed us.Either way, it was over now. At least, that was what I kept telling myself.“Miss Yulia?”I blinked. My gaze snapped to the front of the lecture hall. Our lecturer was looking directly at me. A few students turned in my direction.Heat crept into my cheeks. “Yes, sir?”He smiled knowingly. “I asked whether you understood today's topic.”“Oh.” I glanced at the project

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 48: A Love Worth Fighting For

KENDRICKThe weight of everything we'd just heard settled over us like a storm cloud. Adeline was the first to break the silence. She folded her arms across her chest and looked at me. “How did you even find out about those other girls?”“My P.I.” I glanced at Matthew. “Matthew showed me photographs taken when I was with them, so I hired an investigator to look into it.” I sighed. “But the deeper they dug, the uglier it became. She kept records of everything.”Sophie's expression remained cold as I talked.Victor frowned. “Records?”I nodded. “Matthew and the police searched her house after obtaining the necessary warrants. They found journals.”“Journals?”“Yes.” I looked at Yulia. “She documented everything. She kept them like they were achievements.”Yulia's face drained of colour. “Oh my God…”“She even wrote notes about how each victim reacted.”Adeline’s lips curled in disgust. “That is sick.”“She treated people's pain like trophies.”Damon closed his eyes. “I can't believe I

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 47: Everything Comes To Light

YULIA“What else did she do?” Damon asked.Kendrick glanced at Matthew before looking back at me. “Yulia… you're not the only girl who fell victim to them.”My heart sank. “What do you mean?”He took a breath. “Sophie has been doing this for years.”I felt my stomach tighten. “Years? So it’s not only me?”He nodded. “Every time I became interested in someone, she felt threatened by another woman, and she finds a way to destroy that relationship.”There was a moment of silence.Kendrick continued. “Y’all know Olivia is also a cybersecurity specialist.” I turned to Sophie. “Your cousin here helped to erase evidence, create fake information, and access private accounts.”I cut my eyes at Olivia, and she looked down, crying. “The first time was during college.” Kendrick looked at Sophie. “You remember my girlfriend at the house party?” he quizzed.Sophie was mute. “You and Olivia planned to spike her drink. Set her up in bed with another guy and made it look like she cheated,” Kendrick s

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 46: Right Under Our Nose

KENDRICKThe private lounge at The Spaniards Inn was one of the few places in London where we could disappear for a while.Tucked away near Hampstead Heath, it had the perfect balance of privacy and comfort. The kind of place where businessmen held quiet meetings, friends gathered after a long week, and nobody cared enough to disturb you. This was where we came to relax, but at this moment, I couldn't relax. I sat back in my chair, staring at the glass of whiskey in front of me without taking a sip.Today was the day. The truth was finally coming out.For weeks, someone had been playing with our lives. Watching us, manipulating situations. Creating misunderstandings, and the worst part was knowing that the person had been close enough to smile in my face while destroying everything behind my back.Right under my nose.Victor leaned forward, studying me carefully. “Bro, are you alright?”I looked up. “Yeah.”He didn't look convinced. “No, you're not.”I sighed. “I'm fine, Victor.”Damo

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 1: Close Enough To Burn

YULIA“We’re almost there, baby girl.” My father watched me as I angled towards the side window, lost in my thoughts.“I still can’t believe you eloped and got married.” I glanced at him, and he was smiling.“Well… I can’t be single forever. I’m ready to settle down and spend the rest of my life wi

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 23: The Wrong Time

KENDRICK Every head at the table turned toward Yulia. I hated that question the moment Mother asked it. Yulia blinked once, clearly caught off guard. She placed her fork down as she searched for an answer, and accidentally, the glass beside her tipped. Champagne splashed across the tablecloth and

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 5: Feeling The Moment

YULIA“So you’re telling me that you’re living with the Kendrick Fernsby?” Adeline asked dramatically, raising both hands to make quotation marks in the air. I laughed, taking another sip of my pineapple smoothie. I had decided to meet her at The Good Life Eatery because their smoothies were ridic

  • The Wrong Kind Of Love   CHAPTER 3: The Kiss That Shouldn’t Have Happened

YULIA“This is it?” I asked, glancing around the parking lot filled with cars. “Yes.” Kendrick parked his car and turned to me. “Ever been to a street race?”I shook my head wildly, speechless all of a sudden. His expression barely changed, but his eyes said otherwise . “Then prepare yourself. Yo
