Kaelor's POV

"Babe... the baby. Come on, don't go back to sleep."

Zareth's face hovered over mine, her hand warm against my cheek, and I sat up fast, half-convinced I was still asleep and needed to prove it to myself. I stood, stretched, and there across the room — was a crib. A baby inside it. The most beautiful baby I had ever seen, and somehow, impossibly, mine.

"Babe, can you get him, please? He's hungry," Zar said, adjusting the strap of her pale blue nightgown.

I crossed the room and lif

Kaelor’s POVI hadn’t left Sabriel’s bedside in six hoursHer breathing had steadiedBarelyThe healers moved around her in hushed voices speaking in the careful clipped tones people use when they don’t want to be the first to admit they have no answersI knew that toneI’d used it myselfStanding over Zareth’s unconscious body after she’d nearly collapsed during her first week in the palaceThen I’d told myself it wasn’t my concernFunny how life had a way of making liars out of kingsSabriel stirred beneath the blanketsFor one moment I thought she was wakingInstead her brows knitted togetherAnd in a voice barely louder than a breath she whisperedDon’t let her take it…My entire body went stillSab?No responseHer eyes remained closedJames looked up from his seat near the fireplaceWhat did she say?I wasn’t sureAnd somehowThat frightened me more than if I had beenThe witch arrived after midnightShe looked older than time itselfHer silver hair hung in a braid down her back

  • The lycan king’s regret     WHISPERS AND ASHES

Zareths POVThe throne room was still in a mess when I finally left it.Healers yelled for space around Sabriels body that was not moving.Council members talked over each other. My grandfather was asking for answers. In the noise my fathers voice came through the hall giving orders that no one seemed to want to obey.Through all of that...Vi sat very still.Smiling."Zar!"Maes voice followed me as I went through the doors."Zareth wait!"I did not.Because if I stopped—If I let myself think about the look on Vis face for one more second—I was going to go back into that room and ask her why she found it funny to watch someone lose their wolf. The scary part was...I was not sure I would stop at asking. My hands were shaking when I reached my rooms. Not from being afraid. From knowing.Somehow...That was worse. My door was where I left it.Closed.Locked.Normal.That should have made me feel better. It did not.I knew something was wrong before I stepped inside. The drawer of my

  • The lycan king’s regret     CRACKS IN THE CROWN

Kaelors POV The court meeting started at noon.I had been to war meetings that were less tiring.Alexander Ashford stood in the middle of the throne room in black. He looked like the son the kingdom remembered him to be.Wronged.Honorable.Patient.I did not like him away.Which was silly.I had no claim on Zareth Vale.No right to care who she used to be engaged to.No reason for the thought of another man standing beside her to feel like a knife in my side.Yet...Here I was.My wolf had been restless since morning. It was pacing under my skin like something trapped.Mine.I said "No" under my breath.James, who was sitting to my right raised an eyebrow."Talking to yourself now?" he asked.I did not answer him.My eyes found Zareth away. She was sitting beside Maevyn near the front of the court. She looked pale. Distracted. For reasons I did not want to think about...My wolf calmed down.Alexander was good at playing the room.It was actually impressive."I was young " he said q

  • The lycan king’s regret     WHAT THE KING DOES NOT KNOW

Zareth’s POVI went back to see Kate the morning.I should not have gone,. I did.James had put two guards outside my clinic door. One of them opened the door before I could."Lady Zareth " he said.I do not like being called a lady."I am not a lady " I told him.The guard looked uncomfortable."His Majesty said otherwise " he said.Course he did.I thought about Kaelors hand on my stomach.Pup his wolf had whispered. No I told myself.I must have imagined the look on his face. The silence, the recognition, the softness in his eyes.Kate looked up as I entered."You look terrible " she said."So do you " I replied.I laughed weakly. It hurt."Fair " Kate said. She had bruises on her face and a bandage on her shoulder. Her eyes were still sharp."You are lucky to be alive " I told her quietly. Her expression changed."So are you " she said. The room felt colder."What do you mean?" I asked.Kate glanced at the guards outside."Someone has been paying informants " she said quietly. My

  • The lycan king’s regret     SCENT OF A LIE

Kaelors POVI found her scent before I found her.Rain.Lavender.Fear.Something else.Something that had been haunting my wolf since the moment I read the words on her phone.I'M PREGNANT.The scent hit me halfway down the alley. My wolf surged so violently beneath my skin that I nearly shifted on the spot.Mate.Then I saw her.Zareth.Alive.Breathing.Standing beneath the alley lights.Relief hit me hard it nearly brought me to my knees. Then I saw his hand on her arm.Alexander Ashford.Something inside my chest twisted into somethingIt was not anger. It was not jealousy. It was worse. It was the realization that someone else knew how to touch her gently. My wolf immediately snarled.Mine.The word shocked me.Because I did not correct him.Not this time."Kaelor " Alexander said.He did not step back. That alone made me want to put him through the wall. The alley suddenly felt too small.Too quiet.Too full of things neither of us was saying.Zareth looked between us with eyes

  • The lycan king’s regret     THE MAN FROM BEFORE

Zareths POV I heard the boots before I saw them.Heavy.On purpose. The kind of footsteps that belonged to men who always got what they wanted. They came into the clinic like they owned it and something inside me knew one thing. They were not here by accident.“Zareth—”Kate had barely said my name when I moved.I was already out the door and into the alley before she had finished my sandals hitting the wet stone my heart beating really fast.Run.It is funny.Twenty-one years of being unwanted had taught me things. How to be quiet. How to hide. How to survive. My ankle rolled over a brick and I hit the side of a truck really hard.Pain went up my leg.Get up.Get up.Get up.I pushed myself up biting back a cry as tears came to my eyes. Not here. Please, notNot when I finally had something protecting. My hand went to my stomach.Voices.Two men.No.Three.They moved through the alley like they had done it before. They spread out with practice. I understood something scary. They h
