I could hear the sound of laughter coming from the throne room. Blake rolled his eyes as he walked ahead of me and entered into the throne room, where my mother, Luna Queen Vienna and Father, Alpha Rowland, were having what seemed like a private romantic moment together. Mother discussed her meeting with the wives of the Pack’s elders as she gently massaged Father’s shoulders to his liking, and only paused when she saw Blake and me walk into the throne room. “Greetings, father, Luna,” Blake said, with a light bow. “Greetings, Father, mother,” I said, bowing fully. “Greetings, princes of the Silver Crest Pack,” Father stated, motioning for us to have our seats. “Blake, I must say it is a surprise to see that you showed up on time today. That’s really impressive. At least, there’s hope for you, unlike that Liam. We’ll be lucky if he even honours your father’s call,” mother remarked. “Keep my name out of your mouth, will you? Oh, never mind! I forgot for a second that you always have to make me look bad in a bid to make your unfit son seem worthy enough to be crowned the next Alpha of our Pack,” Liam retorted, as he strolled into the throne room leisurely. “That’s no way to speak to your stepmother, Liam!” Father barked furiously. A smirk played around Liam’s lips as he eyed mother all over. “I don’t think it counts as disrespect if I don’t recognise her as my stepmother or even the Luna of this great kingdom. To me, she has always been and will always be my mother’s maidservant,” Liam said. I clenched my fists tightly, trying my best to suppress my anger. “That’s enough, Liam,” I said in a more gentle tone than I had intended. “Or what?” Liam snapped, glaring at me. “We both know there’s nothing you can do about it. You have a maidservant’s blood running through your veins. You shouldn’t even get to speak to me, loser,” he said, and with that, he offered a simple bow to Father and took his seat. It was true that Blake, Liam and I were brothers and had been born on the same day, but we had different mothers and the story behind it all created a perceived enmity and division between us. At this point, mother had had enough and decided to gracefully exit the throne room, but not without having the last word. Stopping right in front of Liam, she scoffed, looking him directly in the eye. “You called my son a loser when you’re the biggest loser. You’re condescending, arrogant and overbearing. It is true that I was once a maidservant, but doesn’t it irk you to know that if the people had a chance to vote, they’ll choose a maidservant’s son over you to lead them? Little wonder your mother died the moment you were born. She couldn’t stand seeing the disappointment you’d turn out to be,” mother said, then walked out of the throne room, satisfaction written all over her face. Liam stood up as though to go after her, but Father stopped him right in his tracks. “If you still have any interest in becoming the next Alpha of the Pack, you would sit down right this minute and quit disrespecting my wife!” Father thundered. “You heard what she said!” Liam fired back at Father. “Well, you started it first, so sit down and stop making the rest of us remain here longer than we want to,” Blake told him. “How do you expect me to not voice out my frustration when the mere presence of her provokes me?” Liam retorted. “Just learn to ignore her like I have,” Blake responded. “Easy for you to say. Your mother isn’t dead. She was just chased out for being an adulteress,” Liam said. Blake snapped, grabbing Liam by his collar. “Repeat what you just said,” he dared Liam. Father shook his head, his face covered in disappointment. “Why do you three always have to constantly prove to me that you’re not ready for the throne?” He sighed. Blake slowly let go of Liam and returned to his seat, while Liam adjusted his collar with a scoff. Father cleared his throat. “The reason I called you here today is because of the mission that would determine who becomes the next Alpha of the Silver Crest Pack,” he said. Liam leaned back confidently, a smirk playing around his lips. “Then there’s nothing to discuss. I’m the first son of the legitimate Luna. The throne is mine by right.” “The throne is not won by entitlement, Liam,” Father brushed him off then continued. “Many years ago, before his death, the late priest made a prophecy concerning the three of you. He said that on the celestial day of your twentieth year, your mate would appear before you at Knight’s Tale forest.” My heart skipped slightly at his words as Ciara’s face instantly appeared in my mind. “Does that mean…” I started. “Yes. The maiden you encountered yesterday wasn’t a coincidence,” Father cut in. “I’m sure you all must have felt a connection to her. That’s because she is your mate,” he explained. “What? That doesn’t make any sense at all. How can we be mated to the same person?” Blake asked. Liam rolled his eyes. “The question you should be asking is what that wench being our mate has got to do with any of us becoming Alpha,” he stated, spitting distaste. “Oh, she’s got everything to do with you becoming Alpha… because whoever is able to win her heart is the one that’ll take my place once I’m gone,” Father dropped the bombshell. “But father—“ Blake interjected. “I am finished. You may take your leave now,” Father stated. “But this makes absolutely no sense!” Liam fired. “Guards!” Father called. Almost immediately, two guards rushed into the throne room and bowed. “Escort the princes out. I’ve said all I needed to say,” Father ordered firmly. “Don’t you dare put your filthy hands on me,” Liam warned, then coldly regarded Father with a mock salute and stormed out. “I’ll do as My Lord pleases,” Blake said with a light bow then walked out after Liam. I bowed gently and proceeded to leave when Father suddenly called out to me. “Don’t you have anything to say?” He asked, his expression softened. I thought about it for a moment and then shook my head. “No, Father. I trust your decision, and I hope the best man wins Ciara’s heart,” I said, then bowed once more and left the throne room. I could have said this game was rigged against me. I could have also said I didn’t know the first thing about wooing a woman. But then again, I had never wanted anything in life the way I wanted Ciara.-AldenThere was only one place I was sure would give me the answers that I needed. I had to go back to the cottage where Ciara had been locked up, believing the scene of the crime would have clues leading back to the person who was truly behind everything.I had intended to leave at night, but ended up falling asleep for a few hours which was a surprise, seeing how sleep hadn’t visited me during the last few days.I opened my eyes before dawn and quickly freshened up, before sneaking out of the palace through a passageway that was no secret to the Royal family and trusted servants of the Silver Crest Pack.To my astonishment, Ciara was right outside the palace, sitting at the stem of a tree tapping her foot impatiently on the ground as she looked from side to side, as though she were expecting anyone.“Finally! What took you so long?” Ciara asked, spotting me.“What are you doing here?” I inquired.“I’m coming with you,” she replied.“What? Are you serious?”“Of course. Let’s go. You
-CiaraMy lips stretched into a smile, knowing that he couldn’t see me now. I had needed to stay in character while speaking to him, hoping he actually did prove his innocence to everyone. No matter how hard I had thought about it, it just didn’t make sense that the same person I had spoken to about keeping me safe suddenly planned a kidnap against me. It also made no sense that he was at the centre of it all, as if someone had wanted it to be so.Still, I had doubts, and in order to clear those doubts, I needed to act tough to ensure he left no stone unturned in proving everyone wrong, just to get back in everyone’s good books.I wished him the best, I truly did, and I somehow trusted that he won’t let me down.I headed back to my bedroom, just wanting to soak myself in the bathtub while finishing the last few chapters of the romance novel Katrina had lent to me, before going to bed.Upon getting to my room, I noticed the door was slightly open, despite remembering shutting it tight.
-AldenI stood on the rooftop, lost in my thoughts. There were times that I had the most dangerous things in my head, but I always kept them in check. I did believe that no one was completely good, but I always tried my best to remain that way, for the sake of my mother, for my sake as well.Still, never had I imagined that I’d ever hurt Ciara. I didn’t want her to go the Moonstone Pack, but I was determined to protect her when we got there and not try to prevent her from going by kidnapping her. Even if I had done that, why would I ever order someone to assault her? Why?Could it be? Did I have an alter ego? Was it a lookalike, or possibly, a twin?I buried my head in my hands, heaving a deep sigh, lost and confused. Going from being the most loved Prince in the Pack to being the most hated wasn’t easy, but being despised by my own mate was even more heartbreaking.“Why are you here? Do you plan on jumping to your death? Why? Can’t your fragile heart take what’s happening to you righ
-CiaraI jolted up from sleep from the third nightmare I had had in the space of one night. I had dreamt that I was still kidnapped and was unable to access my freedom of movement, but here I was, in my room, in the Silver Crest Pack’s palace.I heaved a sigh of relief and then jumped in fright upon lying down and discovering someone was lying in my bed. However, on a closer look, I discovered it was just Liam and I felt relieved all over again. I reached out to my bedside table where a flask of cinnamon tea had been set by Katrina and poured some into a cup.It burned my tongue as soon as it touched my lips and I immediately reached out to the other bedside table for a glass of water.Once I was done with drinking, my eyes, for whatever reason, rested on Liam’s face.He was handsome. I already knew that, but while he slept, his face looked more handsome than ever. His dark hair, which fell to his chin, made him look younger and innocent. No one would ever guess it was the same Liam t
“Did you just slap me?” Liam asked, menacingly.“Yes, and I will do it again,” Luna Vienna thundered, raising her hand, but Liam caught it and twisted it in the air before shoving her away. He then approached her even more threateningly, but he had barely taken two steps when a slap reconnected his brain.“Who the fuck—“ his words hung in the air immediately he saw that it was his father who had slapped him.“Go on! Complete your statement, and be condemned to stay in the dungeon till the end of the year. How dare you physically assault my wife? On top of that, you still wanted to do it again. Are you insane? Have you lost it? Who do you think you are?” Alpha Rowland roared angrily.“I am your son, father. I am your son!” Liam screamed, hurt, offended, furious.“Well, she is my wife… and you will respect her or face the consequences!” Alpha Rowland said, and feeling a burning pain in his chest, he decided he couldn’t continue with this and turned around to leave.“Father, you’re not s
The first light of dawn broke out in the palace of the Silver Crest Pack. The atmosphere was an unfamiliar one, with the maids whispering mindlessly and the guards shaking their heads at what they deemed to be nothing but an abomination.“I always knew he had a skeleton hiding in his wardrobe. Seriously, what sort of a prince is that nice to common maids like us?” one of the maids gossiped.“I was always curious as well, but I just believed it was because his mother used to be a servant,” her fellow maid and friend responded.“To me, that Lady Ciara seems to be the issue. Ever since she came into this palace, it’s been one problem to another,” another one added.“I know, right? I also think she’s the problem,” Samantha said out of nowhere, startling the maids who hadn’t noticed when she arrived.“Greetings, Lady Samantha,” they said in unison, bowing their heads low, afraid that they would get a scolding.“Oh, carry on. Don’t mind me. I’m only here like the rest of you all, to see wha
-BlakeI wasn’t interested in attending the Masquerade ball considering everything that had been going on with Ciara. However, as one of the princes of the Silver Crest Pack, I was mandated to attend the event.Perhaps, I didn’t want to attend it because I didn’t want to face Ciara yet. I had yelle
-LiamI banged on the door multiple times, but of course, she didn’t respond. I kicked it angrily, leaving a dent and then, leaned against it, waiting till she was done and finally came out.I couldn’t understand why she wouldn’t just let it go. Yes, I had left her all alone, but she left my dick h
-CiaraI was more annoyed than pleased about Liam’s entrance.“I never asked for your help. I can handle your brother myself,” I eyed Liam, then turned to Blake. “Leave my room right this minute or I’ll report this matter to the Alpha,” I threatened.“Fuck!” Blake cursed under his breath and storme
-Ciara A few days had passed since the incident with Liam. On the bright side, I had been preoccupied with doing embroidery because the Luna was really impressed with what I had done the other day. She had been really kind to me, and I couldn’t see how anyone could dislike her.Blake had remained
