Infuriated

“Hello?”

“Yes!” I blinked, focusing on his face. “He told me about you.” I folded my arms instead of accepting his hand. “I don't need a babysitter,” I said to him, letting my displeasure show on my face.

“I'm a bodyguard,” he corrected, annoyed I was calling him a babysitter.

“Isn't it all the same?” I leaned back on my door. “Return to my father and tell him I don't need a damned security guard or whatever the hell you call yourself.”

I stepped into the apartment and slammed the door shut on his face. The earlier he knew I didn't want him, the better it would be for everyone.

I expected him to knock on my door, to beg me to let him do his work, else his children — if he had any — would starve, but he didn't.

Good riddance.

It was easy to get rid of him. I was just about to give out a celebratory dance over it when my phone started ringing. I had to leave the door to go check on it. I strode over to my room and snatched it from my bed, my frown deepening when I saw it was my father. I should have known.

“Hello?”

“Why did you send him out?!” my father's voice thundered.

Wincing, I removed the phone from my ear and glared at him. “I don't need a babysitter,” I said, acting just as stubborn as he was. “You don't have to waste your money on me, Father. I can —”

“He's at your door, Logan. Let him in. I don't want to hear any more complaints from him.” He disconnected, just like he did the first time.

“I hate you!”

I yelled into the phone, throwing it back on the bed. Grumbling, I strode over to my door and ripped it open. Standing on the other end was the same gorgeous man, with a frown on his face.

“Mr Thompson, I —”

“Call me Logan. Mr Thompson is my father.” I left the door open and walked back to my sitting room. I heard the door close behind me and the lock click in place before he joined me.

He sat on the sofa opposite the love seat I was reclining on. In my personal space, he looked so out of place, like a father playing dress up in his daughter's playhouse.

Okay, scratch that description.

“I will keep this short, Mr Jules. I don't need a babysitter and will appreciate it if you maintain your distance from me, especially when we are out.”

He nodded.

“I have my personal life. You can't follow me everywhere and, most importantly, you won't stay in this apartment with me.”

He nodded again….

“You aren't allowed to follow me to class. You just stay out of my lane.”

He nodded… Again.

Now, this was getting to me. Huffing out an exasperated breath, I wiped invincible sweat off my brow and glared.

“What the fucking hell is wrong with you?”

He cocked his head to the side. “Huh?”

“Use your damned words.” I placed my right palm on my forehead, taking a deep breath.

“If that's all, I will be on my way, Mr Thompson. I moved into the flat next to yours. If you need anything, let me know.” He got up from the couch and turned to leave.

“Wait, that's all?”

My words stopped him. He turned, lifting a brow. “What else do you want? You don't need a babysitter, do you?”

“You —” My face coloured, blazing hot as I wagged my index finger at him.

“See you later, Piccolo Diavolo.”

“What the hell did you call me?!” I screamed at him, but he didn't turn. He just let himself out of my room and closed the door behind him, leaving me to fume at his brazen action.

Fuck him!

….

Jules did as I asked. He never approached me whenever we went outside. He always followed some paces behind, watching me. Though I hardly saw him most times, it was an unnerving feeling to have his gaze on me especially whenever he wanted to piss me off.

I couldn't even go to the restroom in peace without him following suit, standing by the door until I had finished my business.

On the 4th day, I was ready to lose my mind. I didn't like being followed, watched by a man whom I didn't know from Adam, and forced to pretend he wasn't there.

“Geez, Jules. You have been acting so out of it since you returned from the summer holiday. Are you alright?” Queenie asked, with a frown, her brown eyes awash with worry as she reached out to touch me. “Is everything okay?”

“Yeah.” I forced a smile, nodding. “Never been better.”

Similar to the friends I made in high school, I had kept my family a secret from her. To Queenie, my father was just a businessman who rarely spent time at home. I didn't think it was necessary to tell her about him, and now? I still don't think I had to.

She tucked her beautiful strawberry-blonde curls behind her right ear, glaring. “Don't give me that bullshit, Jules. We have been friends since our first year. I might not know much about you, but I can read your mood.”

Fuck..

I should have known Queenie wouldn't drop the matter until I had given something. Rubbing my palm on the back of my neck, I tried to think of an excuse, one that would get her off my neck.

I looked around, my eyes locking with those of Jules, who was leaning on his car, acting like he was posing for a photoshoot.

Tsk.

What a bastard.

Tearing my gaze away from him when I started feeling a warmth on my cheeks, I leaned close to Queenie. “I… I think I have a crush on someone.”

“What?!”

Her scream earned us glares from the students sitting on the grass, reading.

“Keep your voice down!” I whisper-yelled, narrowing my eyes at her.

“Oh, come on, darling. You didn't expect me to keep my voice down when you just threw that bombshell at me. Now, tell me, who is the lucky man that got enough charm to pull a Playboy?"

LOGANIf I knew being sick was all it took for Jules to act all caring towards me, I would have faked it a long time ago, like yesterday. Would he have cancelled his plans with that woman if I was sick?Thinking of that bitch, I gritted my teeth when I recalled the picture he had deleted a few seconds after uploading it. It was just my luck that I saw it before he deleted it. Jules was freaking smiling. I had never seen him smile that brightly, and he looked like he was where he wanted to be with her. That might have been the start of my illness. Seeing him, all cosy with that woman, made me want to bash something; her head, preferably. “Dinner is ready,” Jules announced as he walked into my room with a tray. He smiled when I made a face at him, and my heart skipped a beat. Even though he had looked happy with that woman, I felt special knowing he was here with me.But what if he's only doing this because your dad paid him to?I shook off that dark thought before it could take hol

  • Undercovers: Seduced By The Mark   I don't care

I deleted the photos almost immediately. You could say I chickened out after sending it, and Carissa teased me about it all night long. She didn't even give me a freaking breathing space. And by morning, I was done with everything about her. I even threatened not to return home again. Well, we both knew I wouldn't keep those words, not when my Carie is living with her. I would always come home to her. I took Carie to school before I drove back home. I got a call from Paul, letting me know Logan didn't go to school. He didn't know what was wrong with him since he didn't let him into his flat, and when I asked if anything happened the day before, he claimed nothing out of the ordinary occurred. Logan just asked for a drive, then he ate at a diner before he took him home. He hadn't left his flat since they returned, which was odd. Paul was waiting outside when I got in. “You can leave,” I said to him as I headed to the lift. My stomach twisted with worry as I watched the numbers go up

JULESCarissa almost talked my ears off immediately after she returned home. She was that happy to see me. Ever since I started working for Mr Thompson, I hardly went home unless when on a break, and even at that, I didn't have the luxury of spending the entire day with them as I had hoped. “Daddy, read a bedtime story for me!” Carie called out from her bedroom. “Am I not enough?” I heard Carissa respond. After dinner, while I washed the dishes, Carrisa had taken her in for a bath and a night tuck-in. “I'll be with you shortly,” I responded, drying my hands on the towel. I placed it back in its position and headed to my baby's room. She was arguing with Carrisa when I stepped in, and she immediately smiled sweetly at me. “Daddy!”“Baby girl.” I walked over to her side and placed a kiss on her forehead. “Which fairytale are we reading today?”“Mariposa!”“Mariposa?” I reached for the book she gave me, opened and started reading.“Traitor,” Carrisa muttered under her breath when Ca

  • Undercovers: Seduced By The Mark   Time to let go

LOGANThat damned bastard. He was probably with the lady he spoke with on the phone yesterday. I can't believe I spent the entire night thinking of him, and ended up with dark eye circles that made me look like a zombie, only for him to look refreshed. He must be happy to visit her. Else, he wouldn't look like he was literally floating. I gripped the pen in my hand. If only I could get information about the woman, he went to see. I'll…Wait, what will I do?Confront her? What will I say? That I'm his lover? Will she even believe me?More importantly, will it be worth it? Fighting for a man who didn't like me. Jules wouldn't be thrilled if he heard it, and then….“Earth to Logan.”I blinked, realising I had blanked out mid-lecture. “Are we done?”“For some minutes now.” She got up and reached for her handbag. “Let's go. I'm craving rice buns. We need to hurry before it's sold out.”“I don't think I'll escort you today.” I got up. “There's something I need to take care of. I'm skippi

  • Undercovers: Seduced By The Mark   The silent treatment

JULESLogan is pissed at me. At first, I thought he was just throwing a tantrum because of what I said to him at the garage, but it has been hours since he left my flat, and he hasn't returned. I knew he was in his, since his music had been blasting for hours now. He was just lucky none of the neighbours filed a complaint.I figured he would be out of it by tomorrow, but when morning came, I realised we were in for a freaking long ride because, tell me, why hadn't he even glanced my way since he entered the car? It was odd for someone who was constantly in my hair, asking me questions and trying to get me to notice him every chance he got. “I won't be around this afternoon. I took permission from your Dad about it. Another guard will stay with you —”“Whatever.” He took out his AirPods and put them in his ears to block out everything I was saying. The car went quiet except for the faint thump of bass leaking from his AirPods. The bastard must have increased the volume so he wouldn't

  • Undercovers: Seduced By The Mark   Who's she?

He whipped his head towards me so fast; it was a miracle he didn't snap his neck. “What did you just say?”“She's a man,” I whispered, feeling guilty. I had yelled that out in the spur of the moment because I felt bad he liked her and not me. I didn't like the way he confessed that he would fuck her if she came on to him. “Impossible,” he mumbled and looked up. “There's no way.”“She is, and I'm telling you that. There's no way I'll lie about a friend.” I drew in an exasperated breath. “Would you want me to be like that? I can go under the knife for you if that's what you wish. I can even —”“What sort of rubbish are you talking about?” He narrowed his eyes. “Are you dense? Why will you alter your body for a man?!! Are you that desperate? Have you even thought about the future??? What about your dad? Do you think he'll be happy to lose his only son because he changed his biological appearance for his guard??!”I gulped. I'd thought I had seen Jules pissed, but it was nowhere near how
