LOGINI never believed in second chances. Not until the man I gave everything to betrayed me. I lost a million-dollar deal because I thought he’d been in a terrible accident. I rushed back, terrified—only to find out it was a lie. He was fine. He was home. Sleeping with my sister. I drank that night. Too much. I almost got myself killed. Instead, I met him. Golden eyes. Too handsome. Too Elegant. He pulled me in and tore me down in the same breath. Every time I thought of him, I remembered his cruel words and cursed the asshole all over again. Then I learned the truth. He was the Lycan King. “You called the Lycan King an asshole?” Jessie yelled. “I didn’t know,” I groaned. “He was just a man in a white shirt with a really mean mouth.” She went quiet. “Then why did he come back for you?”

“No way I’m letting you walk out of a million-dollar desk because of that Asshole of a mate,” Jessie screamed, running down the stairs to stop me.
“Language, Jessie!” I yelled.
“But you worked so hard for this, Ronnie, why do you always have to dump your dreams to make sure that you’re by his side?”
I shook my head at the unwise statement my best friend had just made.
“I never expected this from you, Jessie,” I said, a disappointed look on my face. “Do you really think I can walk into that boardroom and defend my project knowing fully well that my mate just had an accident and is in the hospital fighting for his life?”
“What kind of mate would I be to ignore him when he needs me the most?”
She looked at me and shook her head. “Obviously, nothing I say would make you change your mind.”
“Exactly!” I said, continuing down the unending stairs of Alte Tech Corp.
“Don’t say I didn’t warn you!” She said, the tone a little too sharp. Sharp enough to want to stir something inside my head, but I ignored it all.
I boarded a taxi and got to the airport as quickly as I could.
As soon as I got in, I hurried towards the ticketing officers, cutting lines to get there even faster.
“Heyyy! What is wrong with you?” A man yelled.
“I’m so sorry, please, I have an emergency.” I pleaded, tears already welling up in my eyes.
It was a struggle, but when I finally got to the front of the line, the ticketing officer looked at me with a sense of urgency as she noticed my expression.
“Good day, ma’am, welcome to Newtime Airways, where would you like to...”
“When is the next flight to New York?” I asked, trying to catch my breath.
“In two hours, ma’am.” The receptionist said.
“Oh shit!” I cursed, rubbing my temples. “No one sooner?”
She shook her head. “No ma’am.”
“Please book it for me.” I requested.
She nodded and began tapping on her screen. “Ma’am, it’s just First class left. Would you like to?”
“Book it!” I replied before she could continue, even when I knew I wasn’t financially stable enough to be taking First class.
I grew too impatient while waiting. My heart felt heavy, and no matter how I tried to suppress it, how I tried to convince myself that he was going to be alright, I couldn’t just stop pacing.
Elisha had promised that after the business meeting, he would come over and we would celebrate my birthday together.
It was a coincidence that my dream company all of a sudden booked my birthday for our meeting. At first, I wanted to decline, but I thought. What if I landed the job? It could just end up being another birthday present.
Of course, I had all hopes that I would bring the deal home. They wouldn’t have sponsored an all-expense-paid trip to their company for me if they weren’t interested.
“Even if you don’t get the deal, I’ll come over, and we’ll visit all those fun places you have always dreamed of visiting with me.” Those were his last words to me before I left home two days ago.
How could I forget them?
“Attention passengers, Flight 482 to New York is now boarding. First class passengers are advised to proceed.”
My head snapped up.
Finally.
I grabbed my bag and walked fast, faster than my legs wanted to go. The Airport was buzzing with people heading in different directions. Every step felt like I was dragging fear behind me. Fear and hope tangled together. I held onto hope harder. I needed it.
On the plane, I stared out the window. The city lights blurred the higher we went. My reflection stared back at me, pale and tired.
I whispered, “You’ll be fine.” I didn’t know if I meant him or me.
The flight felt endless. I kept replaying his voice in my head.
I’ll come over. We’ll celebrate you.
My birthday.
Fresh tears made their way to my eyes.
When we landed, I didn’t wait. I pushed past people again. Thankfully, I got a cab without having to wait long.
The ride was quiet, yet clouded by the fear in my heart. I took out my phone and began to go through Keisha’s text.
“Elisha has been involved in an accident, and he wouldn’t be able to join you in Canada tonight. Just focus on your business deal, I’ll handle Elisha. Good luck on your project.”
Keisha and I weren’t on talking terms, even though we were sisters. Step sisters. But she and Elisha had a strong bond right from when we were growing up. But then, I always had a little crush on Elisha, and then the goddess blessed my little heart by making him my mate. I wasn’t about to lose the goddess’s blessing because of some business deal that could wait.
I called Keisha as I got closer to the palace. But she wasn’t responding even after several rings. Everyone I called just seemed to be busy with one thing or the other.
The Alpha’s building came into view.
I didn’t go straight to the hospital, I wanted to confirm where exactly he was, cause the pack had two hospitals. And since Keisha wasn’t picking, maybe I’d just confirm from the guards at the pack or the housekeepers.
I paid the driver, hands shaking. Without even waiting for my balance, I ran inside.
I approached the first guard I saw, not minding his stern expression.
“Please tell me, where’s the young master?”
His expression remained like steel, but he responded anyway. “The young master just went in.” He said, his voice firm.
“Inside?” I pointed to the house, frowning in confusion. Isn’t he supposed to be...
Without asking more questions, I found myself hurrying into the house.
Could he be receiving his treatments here? It’s very possible cause Elisha hated hospitals. No matter how hard I tried to make him join me for my medical appointments at the hospital, he would always find a way to discard them just so he wouldn’t smell that ‘sterile and traumatic’ scent, according to him.
Despite my hurry, I couldn’t help but notice the relaxed look on everyone’s face as they greeted me. That was the moment I began to process everything. None of the maids looked panicked, like something had happened, nor did I hear them whisper amongst themselves. What is going on?
The thought left me immediately; his scent hit me.
“Mate!” My wolf whimpered in pain.
I moved faster until I got to his door and pushed it open.
My eyes went sore.
“What the fuck?” The words spilt out of my mouth before I could stop myself.
My knees immediately felt heavy.
He froze, and so did she. Her eyes widened when she saw me.
“Ronnie—” he said quickly, stepping away from her and covering up immediately as he grabbed his pants. “You’re not supposed to be here.”
“Exactly!” I snapped. “But guess what?” I said, my tone a little too loud.
“I left an almost completed deal cause I saw Keisha’s fucking text saying that you had a terrible accident. Turns out I dumped my dreams cause I was too worried about someone who was busy screwing my sister behind my back the whole time.”
Keisha lifted the blanket to cover her chest. The shock in her eyes had faded, leaving just a careless gaze. More like ‘Finally, you get to find out I’ve been having an affair with your mate’.
Turns out the pain my wolf was feeling wasn’t from the accident, it was from him cheating.
“You two are unbelievable!” I snapped, tears rolling effortlessly from my eyes.
“Come on, sis, enough of the victim game. You know very well how you forced yourself into this story.” Keisha said, her tone carrying no sense of remorse. “ Elisha was destined to be mine!”
“And let me guess, I forced the goddess to make him my mate?”
“Enough!” Elisha yelled.
“You should leave now before things get any worse!” Elisha said, showing me to the door, his tone anything but soft.
“Really, Elisha... Really?” I yelled, unable to believe my eyes. After everything I sacrificed to be with you. This is how you treat me?”
“Oh please...” He dragged his words. “Stop the drama already!” He yelled.
“What could a wolfless wolf with a failed tech career possibly offer me?”
“We both know you could have never landed that deal cause your work was trash. You are trash!” His voice raised as he spoke the last part like he was laying emphasis on it.
“Instead of being jealous of your sister, you should learn from her. Maybe you wouldn’t be so useless if you did.”
I had no control over my tears anymore.
My breath hitched.
“So why now, after all these years. Why didn’t you go be with her from the start? Why did you have to play with my heart?”
He paused, but gave no reply. Instead, he barked. “Guards!”
Within seconds, the guards appeared in front of us. “Take her away!” He ordered.
I looked the guards over with disgust in my eyes, though tears still clung to my lashes. “Don’t you dare touch me.” A low growl escaped my lips.
I stepped forward, looking Elisha straight in the eyes. “I’ll leave on my own. After you reject me!” I said, my voice firm.
Ronnie’s POVThe bedroom door flew open with a loud thud.Mom rushed into the room, her face completely pale, her eyes wide. “Ronnie! What is it this time?”“The stars…” I said, my voice breaking completely as I pointed a trembling, terrified finger toward my reflection in the mirror, keeping my back turned toward her. “The stars are back, Mom. Look at them! They’re back!”Mom stopped dead in her tracks, her chest heaving as her eyes locked onto the four markings on my waist. A look of terror washed over her.An expression far more terrifying than anything I had seen on her face before. She had always told me, throughout my entire childhood, that those mysterious stars were a sacred seal placed upon my body. This seal was anything but a blessing. It was a curse on my ancestors by the moon goddess, and because of that curse, our wolves would become violent and dangerous until I performed certain rituals.I had to perform the rituals at the sanctuary at least every ten years as an aton
Ronnie’s POV“Shit!” I cursed aloud, burying my face in my hands. As soon as I opened my eyes, the morning light made my head hurt even worse. It felt like someone was smashing a hammer into my skull. I groaned and rolled over, trying to breathe and hoping the room would stop spinning. My mind was a mess.I couldn’t remember anything from last night after I passed out under that heavy blanket. My head was pounding so hard I could barely think. I pushed myself out of bed.Holding my forehead, I stumbled out of my room and into the living room, still seeing everything a little blurry. The TV was on in the corner, making a low noise. Mom was already up and behind the kitchen counter, but I couldn’t stop staring at the red banner flashing across the screen.“Good morning, Mom,” I said, my voice just a little above a whisper.“How do you feel?” Mom asked without glancing up from the onions she was slicing.“Like shit!” I managed to mutter.I stopped moving, staring at the screen as a headl
Ronnie’s POV“Calm down, Ronnie!” Mom said, placing her hand on mine.Something about those words made me even more furious.“Just how am I supposed to do that, Mom? What if someone finds out?”“I’ve been mocked my whole life for being wolfless, now I am a monster, and you think people won’t see it as another reason to mock the hell out of me?”There was a kind of warmth in her eyes that seemed to marvel me. How could she be so calm in a situation such as this? I just couldn’t understand that. She wrapped her hand around mine, grabbing me up from the floor where I had lain so hopelessly, and set me on the bed to sit.“First of all, you are not a monster. Your wolf just reacted with such force because it has been locked up for such a long time. And you know, you’re still new to your wolf. Still learning how to control her. Also, I want you to know that none of this is your fault; he asked for it. And if anybody comes to punish you for it, you just tell them that you defended yourself c
Ronnie’s POVHow had I stayed there that long? I rubbed my forehead, wincing immediately.Everything hurt: my head, my eyes, even my chest felt sore from crying.I sighed and opened the Uber app, my fingers lazier than usual as I searched for drivers…I couldn’t find any.I refreshed it.Still nothing.“Come on…” I muttered.Another refresh. No available drivers.A dry laugh escaped my lips. “Of course.”What else could possibly go wrong tonight?I shoved my phone into my purse and wrapped my jacket tighter around myself. The streets were much quieter now, unlike what I was used to.And my eyes… That bro could barely make sense of anything in front of it.The cold wind brushed against my skin.Normally, I would’ve loved a weather like this. But tonight… It only made me feel lonelier.I started walking.Maybe if I got closer to the main road, I’d have better luck finding a ride. The alcohol in my system made everything feel slower. Not enough to make me lose my senses completely… Just
Ronnie’s POV“I… I don’t know what you’re talking about, Nolan…”Despite how hard I tried to push the words out of my throat, they only came out in the form of a breathless whisper.“You sure as hell do.” He said, his hands now traveling down my arms and settling on my waist.“Nolan!” I muttered.H
Ronnie’s POVThe restraint I had been holding onto completely snapped.Without thinking, without caring about the reporters and other people watching, I spun around, and ran directly toward Nolan.I collided against his solid chest, throwing my arms tightly around his neck. Tears burst from my eyes
Ronnie’s POV“We have acquired enough evidence proving that this entire scandal was a setup,” Mr. Eden continued, throwing a thick folder onto the podium. “We have evidence proving that it was one of the company’s own directors who was behind it all, deliberately sharing Miss Caleb’s files to Alph
Ronnie’s POVI remained in his arms for a long while…Long enough for us to finally get to our destination. The black SUV came to halt right in front of the grand stairs of the courthouse. The engine died, and so did every courage I had gathered when Nolan asked me to get dressed.Kim was the first
