Manuela collapsed onto the long sofa the moment she and Lucas arrived home. She had just carried Lucas, who had fallen asleep on the drive, into his room. They arrived home around eight o'clock in the evening because Don Victorino had taken them to dinner. Manuela was exhausted from spending the whole day running around at Lucas's school games. Uno had driven them, but he left without a word as soon as they got out of the car.
