Chapter 4

Author: Washing Wheat
As I heard that, the tips of my ears grew warm.

It was such a normal sentence. Coming from Elias, with that cool and pleasant voice of his, it somehow sounded teasing.

Memories rushed through my mind without warning. I remembered countless nights spent sleeping in each other’s arms.

Elias hated wearing a shirt to bed. The heat from his bare chest always seeped through my back while his chin rested lightly on the top of my head.

All of it had happened because I pushed for it.

Every night, I insisted on making Elias hold me from behind while we slept.

He probably did not like that either.

Guilt rose quietly in my chest.

Before I could answer, Elias reached out and grabbed one of my hands.

I reacted like I had been shocked and immediately pulled away.

When I met the darkened look in his eyes, I steadied myself, pressed my lips together, and softly refused.

“No need. I think sleeping alone is pretty nice. I want some personal space too.”

Elias looked at me for a while before he nodded slowly. “Fine. As long as you do not regret it.”

Since it was the weekend, both Elias and I stayed home.

For the first time, he invited me into the media room to watch a movie together.

When I realized it was a thriller, I hesitated.

If I stayed in the same room with him, then because of habit and fear, I would end up crawling into his arms again.

Elias did not like physical affection from me.

Back when we watched movies together, I always had to spend a long time acting cute and begging before he finally agreed to let me curl up against him.

Every time, Elias sat stiffly upright.

Whenever the couple in the movie started kissing, he quietly pushed me away without a word.

His low voice would sound beside me. “It is kind of hot.”

Whenever I reached up to touch his face, Elias dodged me like he had been shocked.

Before I could ask why, he claimed he needed the bathroom and disappeared.

When someone liked another person, it showed in the small details.

When they did not, that showed too.

Thinking about all of that, I shook my head and reluctantly refused. “Maybe not…”

The doorbell rang at that moment.

I took the chance to escape and hurried to answer the door.

A girl I had never seen before stood outside. Her hands were hidden behind her back, and she smiled brightly at me.

“Hi. I am looking for Elias.”

I froze.

[Ahhh, it's our female lead baby!]

[Her smile is seriously so pretty and she feels so alive. She and the male lead are obviously made for each other.]

[She came all the way here just to put the side character in her place, didn't she?]

I looked at the floating comments in the air and subconsciously took two steps back.

I called into the house in a quiet voice, “Elias, someone is here for you.”

The tall man appeared at the doorway very quickly, dressed in casual home clothes.

Yoana Shaw finally brought out what she had been hiding behind her back.

It was a soft, snow‑white pillow.

Cute dimples appeared on both sides of her cheeks as she spoke in a gentle voice.

“I heard you have not been sleeping well lately, so I picked one that is supposed to help with sleep.”

Elias accepted it with little expression. “Thanks.”

The two of them chatted casually for another minute.

I stood nearby watching them. My legs felt as heavy as concrete, and I could not move a single step.

[Does anyone understand the genius behind the female lead's gift? A pillow creates closeness without feeling too flirty, and it perfectly targets the male lead's weak spot!]

[Our female lead isn't just thoughtful, she really knows boundaries too.]

[If I remember right, the pillow the male lead's using now was bought by the side character, wasn't it? Looks like it's about to be replaced by the female lead's gift.]

[Exactly how it should be! First replace the things the side character gave him, then replace her too.]

After spending only one night on that bed, my entire body felt sore. My back ached, my waist hurt, and every movement felt uncomfortable. While Elias made breakfast, I slipped my arms around his lean waist from behind and mumbled awkwardly, “Um… can we move back today?”The man thought about it for a second and nodded thoughtfully.“Good point. The big bed at the villa gives me more room to work with.”Me: …The silence felt heavy. When we arrived at the villa, a fluffy calico kitten came wobbling toward me, meowing nonstop. It looked only three or four months old.Delighted, I scooped the kitten into my arms. Then I suddenly remembered the scratches on the back of Elias’s hand. “You prepared this?”Elias sounded ridiculously proud of himself. “Got it from Yoana. It is the baby of that big orange cat you always feed.”My nose stung slightly. “However, do you not hate cats?”Elias answered like it was the most obvious thing in the world. “However, you like them.”I looked at

Only then did I finally realize what that banquet actually was.It was Yoana’s engagement party. Her fiancé was not Elias.I stared at the man beside me in shock. As if he sensed my gaze, he lowered his head slightly to look at me. “What is wrong?”I suppressed the confusion swirling inside me and shook my head. “Nothing.”The floating comments exploded. They were clearly just as confused as I was.[Where the heck did the plot suddenly go?][Why was the female lead suddenly getting engaged to a random side character who had never appeared before? Could someone explain that to me?][No clue.][He was not exactly random. If I remembered correctly, he was the female lead’s childhood neighbor. They had liked each other for years.][Then what about our male lead? Is he just here to celebrate or what?][Relax. Doesn't the male lead already have the side character by his side anyway?][Forget weird ships. If this pairing is right in front of me, I'm shipping it! They actually lo

“It is me. Elias. The thief already ran away.”I was still scared and stayed cautious. “How do I know you are really Elias?”The person outside sounded like he was grinding his teeth.“Nancy, you have been running away from home for exactly seven days, eleven hours, and thirty‑nine minutes. Is that enough proof for you?”Silently, I calculated the time in my head. Then I finally let him in.Elias looked terrible. His expression was dark as storm clouds. After he glanced around my apartment once, his mood worsened.“You are seriously living in a place like this? And as for the breakup, I do not agree. Come back with me.”I shook my head and took two steps backward, putting distance between us. “No.”“You would rather spend every night scared out of your mind than stay at my place?”I blinked, and a tear rolled down my face.It was only a reflexive tear from being frightened earlier. With reddened eyes, I nodded pitifully.“Yes.”The moment Elias saw me crying, panic flashed

[The side character isn't seriously going to think the male lead likes her because of this, right? Please. Men have physical needs, okay?][Called it. The side character was totally playing hard to get.]This time, I did not blindly believe the comments. I could not shake the feeling that there were still many things left unsaid between Elias and me.I leaned forward and pressed a light kiss against his moving throat, stopping him before he could continue.“Elias, are you doing this because you like me, or just because you have needs?”The man froze for a moment. Then a low laugh escaped him.“Nancy,” he said slowly, “I have hands. Besides that, there are plenty of other ways to deal with those kinds of needs. I…”Before he could finish, his phone rang. Elias clicked his tongue in annoyance. After he heard whatever was said on the other end of the line, his expression changed at once. The moment he hung up, he started getting dressed, clearly preparing to leave.“Something ha

My mind felt completely tangled. The moment I heard the word breakup, I instinctively avoided Elias’s gaze. I turned and ran back to the bedroom. For some reason, I suddenly remembered the scratches on the back of Elias’s hand when he washed my underwear earlier.A few tiny marks. They looked like they had been left by a cat.We had used up all the bandages at home last time. After thinking about it, I decided to go buy some. At the same time, I needed space to calm down.Deep down, I still felt like Elias was not the kind of person the comments made him out to be.My luck was terrible. On the way back, a heavy storm started without warning. A passing car splashed muddy water all over me.In the chaos, someone bumped into me, and I fell hard onto the ground, scraping my knee badly.I forced the tears back into my eyes.I held the box of bandages tightly against my chest, gritted my teeth, and ran home through the pain.As I kept running, an umbrella suddenly appeared above

I lowered my eyes.I was about to slip away quietly when Yoana suddenly called out to me. Her eyes curved into a smile.“You are Mr. Carter’s girlfriend, right? You are really pretty. Oh, and my name is Yoana. I like cats too.”I blinked in confusion.I was about to respond when Elias moved too quickly. Before I could say anything, he had already ushered Yoana out the door. Then he walked straight into the bedroom. When he came back out, he held another pillow in his hands. It was the one I had bought for him.Without any change in expression, he handed it to me.“Your room probably does not have a pillow, right? Use this one.”After a brief pause, he added, “This one is comfortable.”I stared at it for a few seconds before reaching out to take it. A bitter feeling flashed through my chest, and I answered with difficulty. “Okay.”The comments had been right again.Elias had chosen the pillow Yoana gave him and returned mine instead.Maybe he was afraid I would make a scene
