Chapter 3

Author: Lovely Little Mom
Lucy and Idris exchanged smiles as they held Emilia's hand and walked into the kindergarten. They looked just like an ordinary, loving married couple.

I sat in my car, feeling as though every drop of blood in my body had run cold. After a long while, I pushed open the car door and followed them inside.

The parent-teacher meeting was being held in the kindergarten's multipurpose hall. I quietly entered through the back door and found a seat in the most inconspicuous corner.

Lucy and Idris sat together in the center of the front row, chatting and laughing with the other parents around them.

I looked at Lucy's side profile. The woman I had loved for seven years now felt like a complete stranger to me. A sharp pain throbbed in my heart.

Soon, the director of the kindergarten, Poppy Watson, stepped onto the stage with a smile and announced the start of the meeting.

"First, let's give a warm round of applause to welcome the newest addition to our kindergarten, our new art teacher, Mr. Idris Sherman!"

Idris walked onto the stage confidently and said, "Hello, everyone. My name is Idris. I just returned from studying overseas a month ago. I'm honored to be the children's art teacher."

A month ago, huh?

Once again, the timing matched perfectly.

I took out my phone and sent a message to Hazel. "Investigate someone for me. I want everything on Idris Sherman, including all of his immigration and travel records over the past few years. The sooner, the better."

Onstage, Idris continued, "Some of you may have already met me in the group chat yesterday. That's right. Besides being a teacher here, I'm also the father of Emilia Webb from Class One."

He paused, and an apologetic smile appeared on his face before he went on, "I've been overseas until recently, so our nanny has been helping us to take care of my daughter. There are still many things I'm unfamiliar with, so I hope you'll all bear with me."

The parents in the audience immediately responded with excitement. The same parents who had looked down on the young teacher moments earlier had a sudden change of attitude and began flattering him.

"Mr. Sherman, you're too modest. Someone as outstanding as you must have an equally outstanding child."

"Exactly. We'll have to trouble you to look after our kids from now on, Mr. Sherman."

Just then, Lucy stood up with a smile and walked onto the stage as well.

She slipped her arm through his and said to the audience, "My husband is a little shy, so please stop praising him. You're going to embarrass him. I hope my husband can become good friends with all of you."

Emilia also ran onto the stage and wrapped her arms around Idris's leg.

She tilted her little face up and said in her sweet, childish voice, "My daddy is the best daddy in the whole world! He can paint lots and lots of beautiful pictures!"

The family of three looked perfectly happy together.

I sat in the corner, watching the unbearable scene before me and feeling like the joke of the century.

The parents below the stage began chiming in.

"Ms. Webb and Mr. Sherman have such a wonderful relationship. I'm so jealous!"

"Mr. Sherman, why don't you share some parenting tips with us? How did you raise such an outstanding and well-behaved daughter like Emi?"

Idris gave a deliberately modest smile, cleared his throat, and was just about to speak.

But I suddenly stood up and said in an icy voice, "Since when did Emilia get a new father?"

Emilia's words were innocent enough, but their impact was awfully devastating. The smug expression on Lucy's face froze. She thought of the investment withdrawal call she had just received. Then, she looked at the scene before her. Just then, she started panicking. She shoved Idris aside and stumbled toward me.Even her tone became humble as she said, "Honey, why didn't you tell me sooner that she was Dad's assistant? It's all been a misunderstanding. Let's not make a scene here. Whatever it is, can we go home and talk about it?"I stepped back in disgust and raised my hand to slap her across the face. The slap knocked her head to the side, but she didn't dare utter a single sound.I didn't hold back. "Lucy, have you been playing the role of CEO for so long that you think Webb Group is the empire you built yourself? My dad provided your startup capital. I brought in its most important business connections. "Even the villa you live in and the luxury cars you drive all belong to

The parents who had been laughing at me instantly fell silent.Poppy and Idris were also startled by the sudden display. Much of the arrogance on their faces disappeared."W-What's going on? Who are you people?" Poppy demanded, trying to sound tough. No one paid any attention to her. The bodyguards quickly formed a wide path through the crowd. At the end of the path, Hazel, the chief special assistant to the CEO of Leander Group, strode over with steady confidence. Without looking at anyone else, she walked straight up to me and bowed. She said, "My apologies, boss. We arrived late due to the traffic. Your wound is still bleeding. Shall I call your private doctor to treat it immediately?"When she addressed me as "boss", everyone turned and stared at me in shock.Idris' face was filled with disbelief. He clenched his teeth and let out a cold laugh. He jeered, "How much did you pay these actors? You've put on quite a show. Everyone in Jemton knows that Webb Group is the top busi

When Poppy hurried over, I pointed at the wound on my forehead that was still bleeding.I was just about to speak, but Poppy didn't even glance at me. She walked right past me and eagerly shook Idris' hand with a flattering smile."Mr. Sherman, are you alright? I saw there was a commotion on the security cameras and got so worried! Ms. Webb even specifically told me earlier to make sure you and Emi were well taken care of."Idris shot me a smug look before complaining in an aggrieved tone, "It's good that you're here. I don't know what's gotten into him. He insists on accusing me of encouraging Emi to hit him, and now he's demanding to review the security footage and make a scene. He even scared Emi into tears."Hearing that, Poppy turned toward me. Her face immediately darkened as she sternly scolded me, "Sir, please stop making trouble for no reason. You were simply too slow to dodge a ball thrown by a child. How can you blame the child and Mr. Sherman? "By shouting and causi

The parent-teacher meeting ended hastily after Idris threw a tantrum and Lucy did her best to smooth things over. But after that incident, Idris' hatred toward me had reached its peak. That afternoon, the kindergarten held its scheduled outdoor family event, which was a dodgeball game. I had planned to use the opportunity to pull Emilia aside and talk to her alone. I wanted to ask her why she was distancing herself from me.But before I could get close, Lucy's phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID, and her expression changed slightly. After hurriedly saying something to Idris, she quickly walked outside to answer the call. That left only Idris and Emilia on the field.I stood at the edge of the playground, my eyes following Emilia's small figure the entire time. The next second, Idris suddenly bent down and whispered a few words into Emilia's ear. Her eyes lit up. She immediately grabbed a dodgeball from the ground and hurled it at me with all her strength.A dull thud echoed

The moment Lucy heard my voice, her whole body stiffened.Upon seeing me, she looked dumbfounded, and she instinctively let go of Idris' arm.She blurted, "Y-You... What are you doing here?"Noticing Lucy's unusual reaction, Idris frowned and looked at me with displeasure. "Sir, we're having a parent-teacher meeting here. Please don't shout and cause disruption."I ignored him and walked straight toward the stage, fixing my eyes on Lucy. "Tell me, Lucy. Who is he? And in what capacity are you here today?"My stern questioning caused Lucy's eyes to dart around. She couldn't bring herself to meet my gaze. When Lucy remained silent, Idris immediately rebuked me. "Come on, man. Have you lost your mind? You actually came here to question her? You're just a nanny. Even if you've been dreaming of seducing Lucy, you can't shamelessly do it this openly!"The moment Idris finished speaking, a tiny figure suddenly rushed over and spread her arms in front of him.Emilia glared at me hatefu
