LOGINShe didn't Just leave, She disappeared
Jake's POV
"Any news?" My voice was calm. Too calm.
The two men standing in front of my desk shifted uncomfortably, their eyes avoiding mine as if looking at me directly would burn. That alone told me everything I needed to know.
"No, sir," One of them finally said."We're still investigating."
Silence filled the office. It was Heavy and piercing.
I leaned back slowly in my chair,my fingers tapping once against the armrest.
"Still investigating," I repeated casually.
Neither of them spoke. I let out a quiet breath, tilting my head slightly as I studied them.
"Do you know how long it's been?" My tone didn't rise. It didn't need to.
"Two years, sir," The other one replied carefully.
"Two years," I echoed.
I leaned forward, resting my elbows on the desk,my gaze locking onto them.
"Two years of resources. Two years of manpower. Two years of money..." I paused,my voice dropping a bit.
"And you're standing here telling me you have nothing," my hand curled into a fists. The room went still.
"I... sir,we believe she may have left the country..." one of them was saying when I cut in sharply.
"Believe?" The word tasted bitter.
"You're not paid to believe. You're paid to know," My tone was low, rumbling growl, each word gripping with venom.
Neither of them dared to respond.
I stood up slowly. My movement alone was enough to make them stiffened.
"She didn't vanish, " I continued, walking around the desk with heavy footsteps.
"People don't just disappear." I repeated, I stopped in front of them.
"She ran." I added my jaw tightened.
"And you let her." I accused them,my voice a low growl.
"Sir,we are expanding our search," one of the men were saying when I interrupted abruptly.
"You should have done that a year ago." My voice dropped colder.
"This is the last time I repeat myself." I said sternly while holding their gaze, one after the other, ensuring my warning was received.
"Find her." I immediately barked. "No excuses, no theories and definitely no delays," I took another step closer,my eyes glowing with fury.
"Find. My. Wife." I muttered.
"Yes sir," They both said quickly.
I straightened, turning away from them as if they were no longer worth my attention.
"You can leave." I added calmly.
I didn't watch them go,I didn't need to.
The door closed behind me and silence immediately returned. But it didn't last,a knock followed almost immediately.
"Come in," I yelled in irritation, my jaw tightening.
Stella my secretary stepped in cautiously, she hesitated at first, her eyes flickering briefly around the room before settling on me. Careful, always careful.
"Sir... your meeting with the GB Group is about to begin."
I didn't respond immediately, instead I walked back to my desk, picking up the file that has been sitting untouched for the last ten minutes.
"Reschedule it," I muttered sharply. Her head snapped up a bit "sir?"
"I'm not in the mood," I added,my eyes resting on hers.
There was a brief pause before she responded "With all due respect, sir, they're already in the boardroom."
I stilled. Slowly I lifted my gaze to her.
She swallowed. "...They insisted."
For a moment I said nothing, then I grabbed the file.
"Fine." I brushed past her, already heading for the door.
"Let's not waste their time then."
The boardroom fell silent the moment I walked in. As it should.
I took my seat at the head of the table, dropping the file in front of me. "You can begin," I whispered firmly.
Voices started, presentations followed. Numbers, projections, agreement. I heard everything and nothing, because none of it mattered.
Not when my mind kept drifting back to the same place, the same face and woman.
Jessica.
My fingers tightened somewhat against the table. It was two years now and she had managed to do what no one else ever had.
She disappear with no trace, mistake, nothing, like a ghost.
"Mr Stone?"
I didn't respond.
"Mr Stone."
My eyes lifted slowly, the room was quiet again and all eyes were on me waiting.
I blinked once, straightening a bit. "Continue." I nodded towards the presenter.
The man hesitated, then nodded quickly and resumed speaking.
I leaned back in my chair,my gaze wandering away again.
This was pointless. All of it,I thought, my frustration apparent. The only thing that mattered was finding her.
"Sir?" Stella's voice followed me the moment I stepped out of the boardroom.
"You have another appointment at..." she was saying when I countered.
"Cancel it."
She paused. "Sir,it's already.."
"I said cancel it," I added sternly,my tone was final.
She didn't argue again.
"Yes,sir."
I kept walking,I didn't need meetings, deals, or any of this.
Not when my head felt like it was about to split open from the same thought repeating over and over again."Where is she?"
"Sir,I will get the car ready." My driver was saying when I countered him. "I will drive."
My driver stopped immediately, handing me the keys without question.
I got in without another word, the engine roared to life and I drove straight to the gym.
I needed to get the tension out of my system or else I was going to lose control.
The moment I stepped into the private section,I pulled my shirt off and tossed it aside.
I needed no greetings or distraction, but the punching bag in front of me waiting.
I stepped forward and hit it hard. The impact echoed through the room. Again and again, each punch heavier than the last.
My punches were not controlled or measured but raw and unfiltered because that was all I had left.
Frustration, regret and anger followed with every bag I hit and how harder I go.
Her face flashed in my mind. The way she look at me before everything changed. Before I ruined it.
My fist slammed into the bag again and a sharp breath escaped me.
I stopped for a second, gripping the bag tightly as my chest rose and fell.
"She didn't even fight me," I muttered under my breath. That was the part that stayed with me.
"She just.... left."
With no warning, argument or second chance. Just gone.
My grip clenched and for the first time something unfamiliar crept in. Not anger,or frustration but something heavier. I felt Guilty.
I exhaled slowly, stepping back. "I'll fix it," I murmured aloud.
"I don't care what it takes," I added with determination.
My phone buzzed but I ignored it.
It rang again, annoyed,I grabbed it,glancing at the screen.
Unknown number. I almost declined it but something made me answer.
"Yes?"
"Sir..." The voice was hesitant but familiar,it was one of the investigators.
My grip instantly squeezed on the phone,my voice firm and sharp. "What's it?"
"We found something, " He said.
Everything in me went still,my heartbeat slowed. "Say that again."
"We have a lead sir."
There was a brief silence before I asked.
"Where?" My voice was quiet now, controlled but dangerous.
"We're still confirming, but.."
"I don't care about confirmation," my tone cutting through his words. "Location?"
"New York, sir."
Jessica's PovThe room felt smaller now. Everyone was looking at me. I could feel their eyes judging me, weighing me, finding me guilty without a trial. The same people who had smiled at me hours ago now stared at me with doubt and suspicion."I didn't take anything." My voice came out steady even though my hands were shaking. I maintained my posture, trying not to let them see how frustrated I was."Liar, You stole the piece," A man uttered from the crowd. The words hit me like a punch. It stole my breath and reminded me of the past I had tried so hard to escape and work hard over the past months. I had rebuilt my reputation piece by piece. Proven myself at work. I had shown everyone how capable I was. Now it was all falling apart in seconds."Everyone, please stay calm." Mr. Bernard's voice cut through the noise with authority. "We will sort this out," He added."Sort what out?" A woman shouted from the crowd. Her expensive dress shimmered under the lights as she pointed at me. "Th
Jessica's Pov"Jessica, the guests from the Whitmore Foundation just arrived.""I'm on my way," I said immediately. I smoothed the front of my blazer and took one last look around the ballroom before walking toward the entrance. The room looked exactly the way I had imagined it yesterday.Crystal chandeliers cast a warm glow across the polished floor. Round tables dressed in white linen filled the ballroom, each decorated with fresh flowers that carried a faint scent through the air. A string quartet played softly near the stage while waiters moved between guests with practiced ease.I felt so at ease. Everything was running smoothly. No last-minute disaster, demanding guests or unexpected surprises. It was Just the way I liked it."Good evening, Mr. Whitmore," The elderly gentleman smiled warmly as I greeted him."I've heard wonderful things about this hotel," Mr. Whitmore uttered."I hope we live up to them," I said to him."I'm sure you will," He added.I personally escorted him to
Jake's Pov"Tell her I'm busy.""Sir, she says she won't leave."I looked up at my assistant, my eyes burning with exasperation.Of course she wouldn't. Linda had never been good at accepting boundaries."Fine."My assistant hesitated."Should I send her in?" She asked politely.I already knew what would happen if I said no. Linda would simply find another way inside."Yes." I replied.A few moments later, the office door opened. Linda walked in like she owned the building. She looked confident, and elegant. I returned my attention to the reports spread across my desk."You're getting harder to reach," She started, her eyes rested on me."That's usually what happens when people are working," I responded, while raising my eyes to meet hers. The last thing I wanted today was another pointless conversation. She dropped into the chair opposite me."I haven't seen you in weeks."I signed the document in front of me before speaking."Congratulations."Her lips pressed together. The silence
Jessica's Pov"Move the flower arrangement two feet to the left."The event coordinator looked at me like I had completely lost my mind."Two feet?" He asked."Trust me," I added. He let out an exaggerated sigh but motioned for one of the staff members to move it anyway.I waited until they finished before stepping back and studying the ballroom again. Immediately, the entire room looked better. The aisle felt wider, the stage no longer seemed crowded, and the tables looked balanced instead of squeezed together. The coordinator followed my gaze before shaking his head."I hate that you're always right."A smile tugged at my lips."No, you don't.""You're right.""Exactly."A few nearby staff members laughed.Preparations for tomorrow's charity gala had taken over half the hotel. Employees moved in and out carrying decorations while technicians adjusted lighting above the stage. Someone was testing microphones near the podium while another team worked on seating arrangements. I liked d
Jake's Pov"You're staring at that file like it insulted your family."I looked up from my desk.Gabriel stood in the doorway holding a cup of coffee.I hadn't even heard him enter."Maybe it did," I answered with all honesty.Gabriel walked inside and dropped into the chair opposite me."You've been saying strange things lately.""I work with strange people," I uttered in agreement."Fair."He took a sip of coffee before glancing at the stack of documents spread across my desk."What is all this?" He asked curiously.I pushed one of the files toward him.He opened it, and his eyebrows rose."Roman?"I nodded in agreement. For the past two days, I had been digging through every report related to Roman's recent investments. At first, I thought I was wasting my time, but now I wasn't so sure.Gabriel flipped through several pages."You've been investigating your cousin?" He questioned with surprise."I've been investigating a problem," I replied in all honesty."And the problem happens
Jake's Pov"You've been avoiding us."The moment the words left Lucian Stone's mouth, every conversation around the dining table died.I slowly set my glass down and looked across the table. My uncle sat at the far end, exactly where he always sat.At the head of the table, the position he claimed belonged to him long before my father died and continued to occupy even after I became CEO.Some habits were difficult to break, and power was one of them. The dining room itself was impressive enough to belong in a museum. Crystal chandeliers hung overhead. Portraits of dead Stone family members watched from the walls. The table stretched so far that a person could probably raise a family at one end without knowing what was happening at the other.Growing up, I used to think the room looked beautiful, but now it only felt cold.Everything about the Stone estate felt cold. The polished marble floors, the expensive artwork, and the carefully rehearsed smiles.Even the air seemed different her
Jessica's POV "You're staring at that sandwich like it personally offended you."The voice nearly made me choke on my drink.I looked up sharply.Roman stood beside my table holding a paper coffee cup in one hand and an annoyingly relaxed smile on his face.I wasn't surprised to see him since he's
Roman's POV "Your candidate performed better than we expected."The statement greeted me the moment I stepped into the conference room.I looked up from the tablet in my hand.Across the table sat three members of the recruitment panel. The oldest among them pushed a file toward me.I didn't sit i
Jessica's POV I almost didn't go.The email sat open on my phone while I stared at it for what felt like the hundredth time. The address, time, and the instructions were clear. Everything I needed was right there.Yet somehow leaving Rolda's cottage felt harder than it should have.Maybe because
Jessica's POV By the time my shift ended, I was exhausted mentally.Roman had somehow managed to occupy an entire corner of my mind without even being present.Every time I looked at the folder in my locker, questions followed.I couldn't stop wondering why now and how much he knew.I locked the l
