Scarlett’s Pov

Tiffany’s apology came out like it physically hurt her to produce.

“I am sorry, Scarlett. I should not have said those things.”

She looked me dead in the eye the entire time she said it, smiling with her mouth while everything else on her face promised we were far from done. I held her gaze just long enough to make it uncomfortable, then turned and walked away without a word. She was not worth the energy and I had actual things to do.

I spent the next hour moving through the gathering with purpose. The Spring Gathering was not just a social event, it was where alliances were quietly formed and favors were exchanged and every powerful Alpha in the region showed their hand whether they meant to or not.

As the future head of Moonlight I needed to know who to trust, who to watch and who to keep at a careful distance. I worked the room with a glass of champagne in my hand, asking questions that sounded casual and filing every answer away carefully.

At some point I became aware that someone was watching me.

I had sharp senses, always had, trained from years of being alone in places where I had nobody to protect me but myself. I turned my head around quickly and caught sight of nothing but the hem of a black garment. I scanned the room for a moment, found nothing obvious, and decided to let it go.

I eventually drifted out to the garden for some air. The fountain was lit up and the noise from inside was a low hum out here. I stood beside it and let myself breathe for a moment.

Then I heard footsteps.

Tiffany came across the garden holding a wine glass, her face arranged into something that was supposed to look like a peace offering. She stopped beside me.

“I really am sorry about earlier,” she said, her voice soft. “I hope you are not still upset.”

I said nothing and kept my eyes on the fountain.

She took one step closer and her voice dropped drastically to something only I could hear, shedding the performance entirely.

“You lowly pathetic little Omega,” she said quietly. “You have been holding onto Killian and humiliating me in front of people who actually matter and I have had enough of it. You should have stayed in your lab where you belong.” Why don’t you just die?

She put both hands on my back and shoved.

Now, Tiffany did not know this about me, because nobody really paid attention to the orphan girl in Silver Moon, but I had spent years in every combat class available to me, and then extra hours after, because when you grow up with nobody watching your back you learn quickly that your own two hands are the only guarantee you have. My body read her movement before my brain even processed it.

I stepped to the side, grabbed her momentum and redirected it, and Tiffany went straight into the fountain.

The scream she let out could probably be heard from the next pack’s territory.

Killian appeared from nowhere, because of course he did, and pulled her out of the water. Tiffany wrapped herself around him immediately, soaking wet, her mascara running, looking up at him with her bottom lip trembling.

“I only came out here to apologize to her properly,” she said between gasps. “I was trying so hard and she just, she hates me so much Killian, I think it is because of how close you and I are, it is my fault, I am so sorry.”

Killian turned to look at me with genuine hurt on his face, like I had done something to a person who had not just whispered threats in my ear two minutes ago.

“Scarlett, that was cruel.”

“Was it,” I said.

“Tiffany came to make peace with you.”

“So I heard.”

Tiffany sniffled loudly into his shoulder. “Killian, if you do not say something then everyone here will think that Silver Moon’s Luna can just attack pack members without any consequences. That is not fair.”

Killian’s jaw moved. “What do you want me to do?”

Tiffany pulled back and looked up at him. “She pushed me in. She should get pushed in. It is only fair.”

I stared at the two of them. I genuinely could not tell if Killian was going to agree or if this was the moment he would surprise me and develop a single working brain cell.

No, he did not surprise me.

“Tiffany did apologize to you earlier,” he started, his voice doing that thing where it tried to sound reasonable. “And now that things have gone this far, you should probably also….”

Tiffany was already taking a step.

She did not wait for him to finish. She came at me with everything she had, both hands, all her weight behind it, and the force of it caught me off guard just enough that I stumbled backward toward the fountain, my heel caught the stone edge, as I lost my balance.

I was falling.

And then I was not.

An arm came firm around my waist from behind, pulling me back against a chest. It smelled like cinnamon, tobacco and maybe bergamot, the chest felt like it had been built specifically to stop things from falling.

The movement was so clean and so fast that for a second I did not fully understand what had happened.

Then I heard the baritone voice, low and close to my ear.

“Mate.”

  • Rebirth Of The Wolfless Heiress   Chapter 38

Scarlett’s POV “What the fuck, it’s been such a weird day, honestly.” I said it to the bathroom ceiling, to nobody, to the general situation of my entire life, I ran my hands through my hair as the water ran hot into the tub in front of me. This was so weird. This was genuinely, objectively, completely weird and I needed a moment to think. I stood there and just looked around. The bathroom alone was bigger than the entire lab I had spent three years of my life in. Everything was marble and glass and soft gold fittings and the kind of lighting that made you feel like you were being filmed for something. A towel rack that was clearly heated. A mirror that ran the entire length of one wall without a single seam. A small shelf beside the door before you even stepped fully inside, holding two chilled bottles of champagne sitting in a little ice bucket like this was a five star hotel and not a man’s private bathroom. I looked at the champagne for a long moment, then looked at the bath

Dominic’s POV I pulled back from her slowly. My shirt was slightly wrinkled where her hands had been. I didn’t look down at myself, I already knew. I stood there for a second, cleared my throat and fixed my collar. Then my shirt. I noticed another situation a little further south, lower down in my trousers. I dipped my hand inside my pants and adjusted the mini me down there and took a long quiet breath. “Get it together. You are a king and not a teenager and this is not the time.” I said to myself. I opened the door. The girl standing in the corridor was one of my house staff, assigned to the main wing. Young, maybe nineteen or twenty at most. She was clutching a small notepad flat against her chest with both hands and the moment my eyes landed on her she dropped into a bow so fast and so deep I almost felt something close to pity. “King Dominic,” she said, her voice coming out slightly strangled. “Speak.” She lifted her head but didn’t fully straighten. Her eyes found a s

  • Rebirth Of The Wolfless Heiress   Chapter 36

Dominic’s POV I do not plan to take her back to mine. My hands just turn the wheel at the junction and my brain catches up a few seconds later and by then we are already heading in that direction and I decide not to fight it. She needs somewhere close and quiet and safe and every other option requires more time than she has right now. That is what I told myself and kept repeating it while I stuck to the plan. She is in the passenger seat with her head tipped back and her eyes shut and I can hear her breathing from here, shallow and uneven, her chest rising too fast. The drug is settling in properly now that the adrenaline has worn off. Every few seconds her thighs press together and her jaw tightens and I look back at the road. I pull into my private entrance and cut the engine. She opens her eyes and looks around. “Where are we?” “My place.” “I did not agree to—” “I know.” I am already out of the car and around to her side before she finishes the sentence. I open the door and

Scarlett’s POV My skin was on fire, I mean not physically set on fire but literally. A heat that started low in my stomach and spread outward my thighs in waves, sitting under my skin and building every time I tried to ignore it. I pressed my thighs together as I walked and felt the vibration underneath and had to focus very hard on putting one foot in front of the other and not letting my face show any of what was happening to my body. Mira was beside me, her strapped leg slowing her down, her eyes sliding to me every few seconds with surprise written all over her face. I did not have the energy to address it right now. “The way I feel, it feels like I was giving an aphrodisiac for induced arousal.” I said quietly. “I know that’s what this is.” “I know something is going on but you need to tell me how bad it is,” Mira said, just as quietly. “Don’t worry, I’m fine.” “Scarlett.” “I am managing,” I said. “Keep walking.” The car park felt three times further than it had on the

Dominic’s POV“So you have finally found your mate!” My mother was practically glowing from across the sitting room, her hands clasped together, leaning forward in her chair like she had been waiting to say this for years. “Who is she? Tell me everything. Is she beautiful? Of course she is beautiful, the Moon Goddess would not give my son anything less.”“Mum.”“Is it Amelia? Please tell me it is Amelia, that girl has been in love with you since you were twelve years old and she is absolutely....”“It is not Amelia,” I said.My mother’s face fell slightly. Then rearranged itself into something more determined. “Ohh, then who? You have to introduce her to us Dominic, we are your parents, we deserve to know the woman our son has chosen to marry.”“Here we go again,” I said under my breath.“Sorry, what was that?”“Nothing.” I looked at my father. “Dad. You have nothing to say?”My father, who had been sitting in his armchair with a cup of tea and the satisfaction on his face tells me th

  • Rebirth Of The Wolfless Heiress   Chapter 33

Scarlett’s POV The person who walked through the door was James, the Alpha of the pack. “Ohh finally, you’re here.” I said and let out a heavy sigh. He looked at me against the wall, at Ryan standing two feet away with his chest still heaving, at Mira on the floor cradling her leg, I could see the moment his face and brain was trying to calculate what was happening, but after some seconds and he still wasn’t getting a reasonable answer, he finally asked. “What is going on here?” Ryan straightened up immediately. “Nothing Alpha James,” he said smoothly. “She lost her balance and I was helping her up. The other one fell trying to….” “What the hell, I looked at him, that is a lie.” My voice came out very sharp. “This man has sexually assaulted me. He had both hands on me, he pinned my wrists against the wall and he tried to kiss me by force. Mira tried to defend me and he threw her into the table and dislocated her leg.” Ryan turned to James with his palms open. “Alpha

Scarlett’s Pov James turned to Dominic with an apology heavy in his voice, telling him how deeply sorry he was for what had happened on his pack grounds.
