“Return procedure completed.” Then, the robotic voice vanished. I opened my eyes and saw a white, cement ceiling. I did not smell the sharp stench of disinfectant, only faint sandalwood in the air. As I sat up, I stared at the left side of my chest. I pressed down hard and felt rhythmic beating underneath. There was no horrific scar left behind by any surgery, and I did not feel the sharp pain that robbed me of my sleep. I was alive! That was the bottle Seth had smashed my face with. “Dr. Jones, we’ve tested the drugs found in the deceased’s ward.” The police officer flipped through the folder in his hands, took out a lab report, and pushed it to Seth across the table. “You filed a report saying that the deceased tried to poison Jody Jones with drugs from this bottle, but test results showed that this just contains high purity nitroglycerin tablets.
