If you crave emotional payoff, this ending delivers. Naruko doesn't get a fairytale victory—she loses her childhood home, her mentor sacrifices himself, and she realizes some curses can't be fully lifted. But her character arc shines when she stops trying to 'fix' everything and learns to bear imperfect solutions with grace.
The romance subversion hit hard: instead of becoming mortal or making her lover immortal, they part ways when he chooses to live a full human life. Their final scene together—sharing one last meal as he grows gray-haired while she stays unchanged—is heartbreaking yet respectful.
My favorite detail was the subtle hint that Naruko's shrine traditions will evolve into modern practices we recognize today, blending mythology with real-world cultural touchstones. The last panel mirrors the first chapter's composition but with Naruko now smiling instead of crying, showing how far she's come.
I found the ending to be a masterclass in tying mythological themes with modern character growth. Naruko's journey culminates in a cosmic battle where she doesn't defeat the antagonist through brute force, but by understanding the pain behind their wrath. This revelation allows her to rewrite divine laws using her unique half-human perspective.
The epilogue spans decades, showing how her choices ripple through generations. Her shrine becomes a beacon for outcasts—yokai, half-breeds, and humans alike. What impressed me was the author's refusal to simplify her romance; her human partner ages naturally while she remains unchanged, creating poignant moments about mortal love's transient beauty. The final images of her dancing under cherry blossoms with both old and new companions perfectly encapsulate the series' themes of fleeting joy and eternal duty.
The ending of 'A Kiss from the Goddess ~ Naruko Chan Compilation Stories' wraps up with Naruko finally embracing her divine heritage after a series of intense battles and emotional trials. The final arc sees her confronting the ancient deity who cursed her family, using her accumulated knowledge and alliances to break the cycle of suffering. Her romantic subplot reaches a satisfying climax as she chooses between her human lover and immortal destiny, ultimately finding a middle path that honors both. The last chapter shows her establishing a new shrine where she can protect humans while maintaining her goddess duties, surrounded by friends who've become family. The tone is bittersweet but hopeful, emphasizing growth over perfection.

Bulky arms encircled my waist, successfully cutting off any movement from my upper body.
“Why are you following me?” The husky whisper send my body into a second frenzy and it was only when the fog cleared from my brain that I registered that my back was up against a tree. Every nerve ending in my body was on fire as I stared into the cobalt blue eyes of my captor.
Jasper Queen stared down at me with stern expectation and though his hand was no longer covering my mouth, I couldn't speak.
“Speak up!” He spat making me flinch and swallow the ball in my .
“I- I wasn't following you…” I croaked hoping he believed me despite the unconvincing tone.
“So you were just conveniently wandering the forest in the same direction I was walking?” His question was obviously rhetorical but my eyebrows furrowed and I nodded slowly, looking at my surroundings, something about it seemed familiar.
Jasper's hand slamming against the tree beside me made me jump and our eyes met suddenly, but what I saw staring back at me was a picture come to life, from the curves to the creases at the corners of his eyes, the pencil sketch that laid in my book at home both captured every detail and did no justice.
“Don't lie to me!” his pressing against mine vibrated with each word and it was all I could do not to shiver with pleasure.
“I'm not, I swear.” I could feel the tears gathering in my eyes, “I would never lie to my mate.” and just like that, any softness in his eyes evaporated.
“I'm not your mate.”
