Watching them pop around mid-fight always feels dramatic, but the reason is technical rather than mystical: when the demon's path to you is blocked or the server corrects a desynced position, the NPC is moved to the nearest valid tile — which looks like a teleport. Tight corridors, stairs, and clipping tiles make it more likely. High latency or a bunch of players in the same cell can increase the frequency too. A practical trick is to keep fights on flat ground or give the NPC a straight line to walk; fewer obstacles, fewer snaps. It’s a quirky behavior that spices up Slayer trips, even if it annoys my accuracy sometimes.
Lately I've noticed the little vanish-and-reappear trick from abyssal Demons more often than I'd like, and I think it's mostly down to how the game handles NPC movement and pathfinding. In plain terms, when the demon can't find a legal path to you because of walls, stairs, or weird tile geometry it gets 'stuck' trying to walk through something that isn't allowed. The server corrects that by snapping the NPC to a valid tile near you, which looks like a teleport. Lag or server ticks can make that correction feel instantaneous — one tick it’s in the wrong place, the next tick it’s in the right place.
There's also the combat-range behavior: abyssal demons are melee-focused, so if you kite them or suddenly change position (teleport out and come back, or jump over a staircase), the demon will try to catch up. If pathfinding keeps failing, the engine will teleport it to keep the fight moving. I've seen this happen most in cramped Slayer rooms or multi-level areas — it’s less common in open areas. It’s a little jarring, but once you know what's happening, you can use it to your advantage by forcing repositioning and then punishing predictable animations. I still get a kick out of the chaos it creates mid-fight.
I've had days where the demons seem to Blink around like ghosts, and I blame three things: pathfinding getting confused by geometry, server tick corrections, and occasional animation resets. When you kite or hop over a stair, the demon tries to take the shortest legal path; if that path is blocked or the server mispredicts movement, the server chooses a new location for the NPC and that looks like teleporting. It isn't a special 'teleport attack'—it's more of a mechanical correction. If you want fewer surprises, fight them in open floors or use predictable movement so the pathfinder doesn't need to keep recalculating. Otherwise, enjoy the spectacle — it keeps Slayer tasks interesting in a weird way.
I ran into a cluster of abyssal demons during a long grind and their teleporting behavior got me curious, so I started watching the ticks. The pattern that jumped out was this: they engage, you move in a way that changes the available path (stairs, narrow doorways, pillars), and after a short period of inefficient pathfinding they suddenly appear closer. That's classic NPC repositioning — the server avoids endless path recalculation by placing the NPC where it can legally stand near the target. Network latency exacerbates it: if your client and server disagree about positions for a tick or two, the server's authoritative correction reads as a blink.
There’s no special magical teleport mechanic involved; it’s mostly practical consequences of movement, collision, and the game's attempt to keep combat fluid. Knowing that, I altered my tactics: I stop spamming random lateral moves and instead create predictable space or use methods that keep NPCs on a clear path. It made kills smoother and reduced those annoying surprise hits, which I appreciate.

Lately, buying succubi and incubi online had become all the rage. I could not afford one, so I picked one up from the side of the road instead.
It turned out the quality of this incubus left a lot to be desired. Not only did he have a terrible temper, but he showed absolutely no interest in me. He would rather starve than "feed".
Left with no other options, I snapped a photo of his incubus mark and sent it to the shop owner, asking how to handle this particular model.
The shop owner completely lost it.
"Oh my god, please tell me you're joking! That's not an incubus! That's a demon! The most dangerous kind!"

If you're hunting abyssal demons in 'Old School RuneScape', I usually go for the spots where they reliably spawn for slayer tasks: the Slayer Tower basement, the Catacombs of Kourend, and the dedicated Slayer dungeon areas dotted around the map. I like to think of them as three solid options depending on how safe or efficient I want the task to be. The Slayer Tower spot is convenient if you want quick banking runs and fewer risky players around; Catacombs of Kourend gives denser spawns if you have the access unlocked, which is great for stacking kills fast.
Teleport options and shortcuts matter a lot here. I typically use a teleport near my house or a slayer teleport to shave travel time, and I carry a few decent pots to sustain through long trips. Bring anti-poison if you're using melee, and equip your best melee setup unless you're doing a magic-based task. I always favor a slayer helmet and decent food, and if I'm feeling lazy I'll use aggressive prayers to keep kills smooth. All in all, pick the spot that matches how aggressive you want to play and how often you plan to bank — Catacombs if you want efficiency, Slayer Tower if you want convenience, and the other dungeons if you need peace and solitude while grinding, which I find oddly satisfying.
pick a location with natural cover — the lower floors of the Slayer Tower and parts of the 'Catacombs of Kourend' both have columns and stair corners that block melee pathing. The trick is to lure a single demon to a choke tile where it can't path around a wall, then back up to the tile it can't reach while you attack from range or with magic.
Gear-wise I go with high DPS ranged: something like a toxic blowpipe or a crossbow setup makes kills fast enough that you don't risk multiple spawns piling in. Use a Slayer helmet or your preferred slayer bonuses, bring a few high-heal food, and consider a book of bindings for prayer flicking if you prefer keeping overheads. If you're in a multi-area, be mindful of other players and bring a teleport method — it's annoying to lose a cannon spot.
What I really love about safe-spotting abyssals is how methodical it becomes: lure, position, pop DPS, rinse and repeat. It pays off in better KC per hour and far fewer annoying deaths compared to meleeing in tight rooms — feels almost zen after a while.
