I love diving deep into the details of the books. The author behind this thrilling series is Samit Basu. His writing style is so immersive, blending action, humor, and sci-fi elements seamlessly. The way he crafts the characters and the world-building is just mind-blowing. I remember picking up the first book, 'Turbulence,' and being hooked from the very first page. The sequel, 'Resistance,' was just as gripping. Basu has a knack for creating stories that feel both fantastical and incredibly real. If you haven't read his work yet, you're missing out on something special.
I’m always on the lookout for books that break the mold, and the 'Turbulence' series by Samit Basu does exactly that. Basu’s storytelling is a breath of fresh air in the sci-fi genre, combining humor, action, and a touch of the surreal. The first book, 'Turbulence,' introduces a world where people’s wildest dreams become their superpowers, and the chaos that ensues is both thrilling and thought-provoking.
Basu’s background in comics and fantasy shines through in his vivid descriptions and fast-paced narrative. The sequel, 'Resistance,' takes the stakes even higher, exploring the consequences of unchecked power. What stands out to me is how Basu infuses the story with cultural references and social commentary, making it more than just a typical superhero tale. If you enjoy stories that challenge the norm, this series is a fantastic pick.
I was thrilled when I discovered the 'Turbulence' series. The author, Samit Basu, is a master storyteller who knows how to keep readers on the edge of their seats. His ability to mix superhero tropes with Indian cultural elements is refreshing and unique.
I first stumbled upon 'Turbulence' while browsing through a bookstore, and the premise immediately caught my attention. The story follows ordinary people who gain superpowers based on their deepest desires. Basu's writing is sharp, witty, and full of unexpected twists. The sequel, 'Resistance,' expands the world even further, introducing new challenges and deeper conflicts.
What I adore about Basu's work is how he balances action with emotional depth. The characters feel real, and their struggles resonate long after you finish the book. If you're into superhero stories with a fresh twist, this series is a must-read.

Reading 'Turbulence' by David Szalay felt like stepping into a chain of tiny, urgent lives strung together by airports and planes. The book is built from linked short stories where each chapter follows someone on a flight and then hands the baton to a character in the next chapter; the structure gives the whole thing a looped, restless energy that mirrors the unpredictability of travel and human connection. I loved how Szalay slips into different skins effortlessly and how the prose can be quietly devastating one moment and darkly funny the next. My copy moved fast because each chapter is compact but loaded—there’s no fat, just sharp observation about loneliness, small cruelties, and the ways people stumble through choices that end up defining them. If you like fiction that trusts you to fill in emotional gaps, this is a satisfying, sometimes uncomfortable, read that lingers. For me, it’s the sort of book I’d recommend to friends who like character-driven, modular stories; I still find myself thinking about a few of those characters weeks later.
I get an adrenaline kick thinking about 'Turbulence' because it’s pure, ridiculous 90s airborne chaos that somehow stays entertaining. The basic plot: Ryan Weaver, a convicted serial killer, is being flown from New York to Los Angeles when a shootout breaks out on the plane; the pilots and most of the crew are killed, the cabin is thrown into a deadly storm, and the remaining flight attendant, Teri Halloran, ends up facing Weaver in a cat-and-mouse fight while trying to keep the jumbo jet from falling apart. The main players are Ryan Weaver (played by Ray Liotta), whose smooth charm hides a violent streak; Teri Halloran (Lauren Holly), the flight attendant who becomes an unlikely last line of defense; Detective Aldo Hines (Hector Elizondo), who arrested Weaver; and Stubbs (Brendan Gleeson), the other prisoner who sparks the chaos. The movie leans hard into spectacle — severe turbulence, an exploding fuselage, and a lot of close-quarters tension — so its thrills are more about momentum than realism. I’ll admit I enjoy it as a wild, teeth-clenching ride rather than a grounded thriller, and those over-the-top moments are oddly satisfying.
