Tyranitar is the ultimate late-game powerhouse. Sure, it evolves at level 55, but once you get it, nothing stands in its way. Rock/Dragon typing (in Gen 2) plus moves like Earthquake and Crunch? Broken. And if you want a Flying type, Skarmory’s insane Defense makes it a wall. Steel Wing and Fly give it solid coverage. Honestly, half the fun is experimenting—Johto’s roster has so many hidden gems.
If you’re looking for a balanced team, you can’ go wrong with Espeon. Psychic types in Gen 2 are insane, and Espeon’s high Special Attack and Speed make it a nightmare for Poison and Fighting types. Pair it with something like Heracross—Bug/Fighting is such a unique combo, and Megahorn hits like a truck. Crobat’s another underrated pick; fast, hits hard with Sludge Bomb, and evolves from Zubat, which you’ll find everywhere anyway.
I’ve replayed 'Pokemon Crystal' more times than I can count, and my dark horse pick is definitely Umbreon. Yeah, it doesn’t hit as hard as Espeon, but its bulk and access to moves like Confuse Ray and Toxic make it a fantastic staller. For Dragon types, Kingdra is a pain to raise (Horsea’s rare, and you need a Dragon Scale), but once you get it, it’s worth it—only weak to Dragon thanks to its Water/Dragon typing. And let’s not forget Snorlax; it’s a tank that can learn Surf for coverage, which is just hilarious.
Man, 'Pokemon Crystal' was my childhood jam! If we're talking about the best Pokemon, Typhlosion is an absolute beast. Its Fire-type moves like Flamethrower and Fire Blast can melt through so many opponents, especially in the early game where Bug and Grass types are common. And don't even get me started on how cool it looks with those flames bursting out during battle.
For Water types, Feraligatr is a monster with its high Attack stat. Surf and Ice Punch make it versatile against Gym Leaders like Clair and Pryce. And then there's Ampharos—Electric types are rare in Johto, but Ampharos’ Thunderbolt and Thunder Wave combo is clutch for dealing with Flying and Water types. Plus, it evolves from the adorable Mareep, so it’s got that going for it too.

The day I went to the Shifter Mating Registry, I discovered my wolf-shifter boyfriend, Liam, hadn't registered me as his mate. He wrote Maya’s—his sister-in-law.
Seeing me freeze in disbelief, he just chuckled and ruffled my hair.
"Don't overthink it. Maya is pregnant with my dead brother's pup. The pup needs a legal guardian for the bloodline records."
"It's just a temporary mating contract. In three months, once the pup's lineage is certified, I'll break the bond and marry you."
He assumed a powerless human girl like me had no choice but to wait for him.
But he was wrong.
In the system, his highest compatibility match was indeed me.
But my highest match wasn't him.
That very night, I accepted a mating request from a Dragon shifter with a 100% match rate, and I left the city for good.
Three years later, my mother fell ill, forcing me back to North City.
My mate—Kaelan, the Supreme Dragon Chancellor—was delayed by a meeting. He contacted the local Shifter Guards to pick me up first.
I didn't expect to run into Liam.
He took one look at the crystal key in my hand and scoffed.
"I heard the Dragon Chancellor gave his mate the key to his treasure vault. There's only one in the world. Yours is a convincing fake, I'll give you that."
"Alright, three years of throwing a tantrum is enough. Maya's health is failing, and the pup is a handful. You're just in time to come back and help her."
I looked down at the crystal key in my palm.
A fake?
This key? It only unlocked the North City branch—the smallest of Kaelan's many private vaults.

Will Cyran be able to look past the mate he lost and fall in love with the new version of his mate?

Exploring the 'Soul Silver' Pokédex is like diving into a treasure chest filled with nostalgic creatures that have charmed trainers for decades! You can’t go wrong with starters like Typhlosion, the fiery evolution of Cyndaquil. I feel a special connection with this Pokémon; the blaze it unleashes is nothing short of breathtaking! It's like watching a mini volcano! Then there's Lugia, the Legendary Pokémon that reigns in the skies. Capturing it felt like a tribute to my childhood days, walking around with my Game Boy, completely absorbed in the Kanto and Johto adventures.
Another gem from the Pokédex is Gyarados. Remember when you needed to raise a Magikarp into this fierce dragon-like creature? It’s such a fulfilling evolution! And honestly, I think everyone can relate to that struggle. To round out the experience, Espeon and Umbreon add some flair with their unique types. Those two always captured my heart with their elegance and mysterious prowess. It’s a perfect balance! Each time I revisit 'Soul Silver', it’s like rekindling an old friendship with these fantastic Pokémon.
Overall, these Pokémon give 'Soul Silver' its charm, and they all have their own little stories. It's not just gameplay; it's collecting memories along the way. By the way, who else still hums that nostalgic music when they think about the game?
Choosing a starter in 'Pokémon SoulSilver' feels like picking a lifelong partner—you're stuck with them for the entire Johto journey, and each one shapes your adventure differently. Cyndaquil is my personal favorite for its fiery evolution line. By the time it becomes Typhlosion, it’s a powerhouse with access to moves like Eruption and Flamethrower, tearing through early-game bugs and grasses with ease. The lack of strong Fire-types early in Johto makes it even more valuable. Totodile’s Water typing is solid too, especially with its eventual Ice Fang coverage, but it struggles more against the first few gyms. Chikorita? Bless its leafy heart, but it’s the underdog—Grass types have a rough time in Johto, with Falkner’s Flying types and Whitney’s Miltank crushing dreams early. Still, Meganium’s bulk and support moves can be fun if you love a challenge.
Honestly, the meta leans toward Cyndaquil or Totodile, but nostalgia plays a role too. Typhlosion’s design is iconic, and Feraligatr’s sheer attack stat feels rewarding. If you’re replaying, maybe give Chikorita a shot for a fresh twist—just pack some Patience Potions.
