Stephanie Plum’s 30th adventure keeps the series’ signature mix of humor and mild peril. The core trio—Stephanie, Lula, and either Morelli or Ranger, depending on the scene—are as entertaining as ever. Lula’s latest get-rich-quick scheme involves selling dubious wellness products, and of course, it goes terribly wrong. Meanwhile, Stephanie’s mom is still subtly horrified by her career choices.

The new characters include a wannabe influencer who’s skipped bail and a surprisingly competent hacker who helps Stephanie out. Grandma Mazur’s subplot involves a fake psychic, which is exactly as ridiculous as it sounds. The book doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t need to—the chemistry between the characters is what makes it so fun.

If you’ve been following the Stephanie Plum series, book 30 feels like catching up with old friends. Stephanie’s still trying (and failing) to be a competent bounty hunter, relying heavily on Lula’s unhinged backup. Morelli’s there, alternating between exasperation and affection, while Ranger remains the ultimate enigma. Grandma Mazur’s antics at funeral homes are a highlight—seriously, how does Evanovich keep topping herself with that character?

This book also throws in a shady tech billionaire who’s somehow connected to the case, and a few eccentric Trenton locals who make Stephanie’s job harder than it needs to be. The interactions between Stephanie and her mom are low-key some of the funniest moments, especially when her mom passive-aggressively suggests she 'find a nice office job.' The balance of humor, chaos, and a tiny bit of romance is just perfect.

Book 30 dives right back into the wild world of Stephanie Plum, where nothing ever goes smoothly. The usual gang’s all here—Stephanie, Lula (who’s now obsessed with some new questionable diet), Morelli (looking fine as ever), and Ranger (still effortlessly cool). Grandma Mazur’s latest obsession? Trying to get on a reality TV show, which leads to some of the book’s best scenes.

There’s also a new bail jumper who’s way smarter than the usual targets, and a subplot involving stolen exotic pets that only Lula could turn into a full-blown crisis. Evanovich’s strength is making even minor characters memorable—like the deli owner who keeps bribing Stephanie with sandwiches to avoid trouble. The dialogue snaps, the stakes are just high enough to be fun without getting dark, and the ending leaves you grinning like an idiot.

Stephanie Plum is hands down one of my favorite fictional characters ever, and in book 30 of Janet Evanovich's series, she’s as chaotic and hilarious as ever. This time, she’s joined by her usual crew: the irresistible yet frustrating Ranger, the lovable disaster Joe Morelli, and her sidekick Lula, whose fashion choices never fail to crack me up. There’s also Grandma Mazur, who steals every scene she’s in with her outrageous behavior.

The latest installment introduces a few new faces too, like a slippery fugitive with a knack for disappearing and a quirky informant who adds even more chaos to Stephanie’s already messy life. What I love about this series is how Evanovich keeps the core group dynamic while throwing in fresh personalities to keep things exciting. The way Lula and Stephanie bumble through cases never gets old, and Ranger’s mysterious charm still gives me heart eyes.
