In 'Twin Peaks' Dale Cooper visits the Black Lodge and we see Laura Palmer and other spirits there, which feels so mythic and dreamlike.
Then there are the dimensional flips: in 'Stranger Things' Will spends time trapped in the Upside Down, and later Eleven and others find ways to connect to that parallel space. 'Fringe' sends Olivia and Peter into the alternate universe more than once, and that alternate world functions as the literal other side for the story. Even 'Lost' treats the flash-sideways as a version of the afterlife where Jack, Hurley, Kate, Sawyer and many others eventually reunite.
If you like neat crossovers between grief and sci-fi, these shows are gold — each handles the mechanics differently, but they all let beloved characters step into a place that's not quite our world.
