Honestly? I sometimes prefer them to the novels. The tighter focus plays to Connelly's strengths as a prose stylist and a purveyor of atmosphere. The novels are amazing, but they can feel sprawling, with subplots that don't always land. The novellas are lean, mean, and all killer, no filler.
