My two cents: just ask at a bookstore. A bookseller can pull them for you in order off the shelf. Seeing the physical books lined up in publication order is the best way to grasp it. Spines get thicker, cover designs change—it's a visual history of the series.
If you're buying used, check the copyright date inside the front matter. The oldest date is the first book. Sort them by that date on your shelf. Problem solved without ever going online.

I disagree that every minor detail requires order. The major character beats do, sure. But if someone picked up 'The A List' because the blurb intrigued them, they'd still get a solid mystery. They'd just be vaguely aware that Ali has a past they haven't seen. It might even make them want to go back and read the earlier ones.
So while I advocate for order, it's not a total disaster to start later. You can still enjoy Jance's plotting and pacing. You just won't have the full emotional context, which is a significant part of the package for dedicated fans.

If you're using an e-reader, many stores have a 'series' filter that automatically sorts them for you. On Kindle, if you click on 'Edge of Evil', it'll often show you the whole series in order on the product page. Technology has made following series easier than ever.
Just trust the platform's sorting. It's usually based on publisher data, which is correct for mainstream series like this. So you can buy and download them in perfect order without ever making a list yourself. The convenience is fantastic.

This is a three part series all in one place.

"As long as you're this wet for me, you can hate me all you want." He whispered into my ear.
"I will never forgive you for this, Reid." I angrily spat at him.
Without warning, he gripped my chin, only to kiss me with a bruising intensity. There was nothing sweet about the way he kissed me. It felt like he was branding me all over again.
He roughly pushed my panties aside. I gasped, giving him full access to my mouth.
A growl that came from deep within in his chest vibrated through me. "Forgive me?" He echoed against my lips before sliding a finger through my slick folds.
A breathy whimper escaped my lips as his finger started circling my entrance. "This wet little cunt belongs to me. You belong to me. And I will fuck you until you understand that, little slave," he promised, the rough pad of his finger slowly circling my throbbing clit.

I was just a hiker who took a wrong turn. I didn't know these mountains belonged to him. Alpha Reid was a beast in human skin. CRUEL, POSSESSIVE, and STARVING for a toy to break.
He gave me a five-minute head start. I lost.
Now, I’m his captive. His "SLAVE." And the worst part wasn't the cold marble of his mansion or his dark demands... it was the way my body betrayed me every time he touched me.
WARNING: MATURE CONTENT

SIX-PACK SERIES BOOK FIVE ~ *If you haven't read books 1-4, I highly recommend starting the series with Alpha Gray and reading the prior books in order (Gray, Theo, Jax, Brock) for context before starting this one* REID : I've always exercised complete control in all things. When it comes to my pack, I'm in control as its Alpha. In everyday life, I follow a schedule and value structure and discipline. My friends think I stick too close to the rules, but maintaining order and being in control are the key things that keep me grounded. That's part of the reason why the wait for my fated mate has been so frustrating- because it's the one thing I have no control over. And when I finally meet her, I quickly realize she's equally as uncontrollable, as is the bond between us. I've been waiting all my life for Serena, but when she shows up on the eve of a war, can I really trust her? And if so, will I ever be able to conquer her chaos? ~ SERENA : They say life is full of choices, but mine were stripped from me the moment my pack was attacked and my family was killed. Since then, I've been on autopilot, just doing what I have to do to survive. That is, until the last thing I expect to happen, does; I stumble upon my fated mate. I suddenly have a choice again- give in to the mate bond between Reid and I, or risk losing it all. Can I trust him with my secrets, and can he handle them? Once he knows the truth, will he even still want me? It's an impossible choice, because no matter which one I make, I may still lose everything…

"You will walk out of this marriage as you came into it, with only your clothes. You won't get sent nor will you get a house or a car. Sign them and get lost." I fight back the tears as I signed the papers and when I look at him I almost gasp as I saw the hate he has as he look at me.
"The day you realize you made a mistake it will be too late," I tell him emotionless as I walked to the door just as I was about to step out I feel someone grabbing my arm hard making me whimper, "Why would I want someone as disgusting, ugly as you again? I'm glad I finally got rid of you why would I want to come running back to you Ash?" I feel my heart shattered into a million pieces as I hear him say those hurtful words.
Ashley left the house heartbroken and pregnant after he chased her away.

The author said in a Q&A that they wrote the series to be accessible in either order, but their personal recommendation is still the order in which they were written. They said the prequels contain 'echoes of truths you learn later,' which is a fancy way of saying spoilers. I'd take the author's hint and start with 'The Unwanted'.
I tried following a 'perfect' order online and it killed my momentum. My advice? Read the first book. If you love it, just google "Shatter Me series order" and pick the first infographic that makes sense. Most lists are correct in spirit. The differences are minor—whether you read a novella right after a main book or wait. The story is continuous enough that you won't ruin it. The bigger choice is whether to stop after 'Ignite Me' or continue into the sequel trilogy, which is divisive.
If you're just diving into Alexa Riley's steamy romance universe, I'd recommend starting with their first series, 'Everything for Her'. It sets the tone for their signature instalove, alpha heroes, and over-the-top sweetness. After that, 'His Alone' is a great follow-up—it’s got that possessive hero vibe they’re famous for. From there, you can jump into their standalone books like 'Claimed' or 'Ours to Take', which are just as addictive. Honestly, the order isn’t super strict since most of their books are interconnected but can be read solo. I binged them out of order and still fell in love with the way Alexa Riley balances smut and fluff.
One thing I noticed is that their earlier works have a more raw, unpolished charm, while the newer ones ramp up the drama. If you’re into darker themes, 'Hunted’ is a must-read, but save it for later since it’s a bit heavier. Their collections like 'For Her’ and 'For Him’ are perfect if you want bite-sized stories. I accidentally read 'Touched’ before 'Held’, and it didn’t ruin anything—just made me more obsessed. The beauty of Alexa Riley is that each book feels like a guilty pleasure, no matter where you start.
