Nothing wakes me up faster than a blinking error code on an
Ice machine — and over the years I've learned the most common Follett messages so I can triage fast. Different Follett models (nugget, flake, cube) and different control boards show codes in slightly different formats—some use short text like 'CLEAN' or 'ICE FULL', others show numeric codes like 'E1', 'E2', etc.—but the typical meanings repeat enough that you can often fix things without panicking.
The list I check first looks like this: 'ICE FULL' (or bin full) — the machine thinks the storage bin is full, often caused by a stuck bin sensor or ice blocking the sensor arm; clear ice clumps and cycle power. 'LOW WATER' or 'NO WATER' — indicates poor or no water supply, clogged filter, closed valve, or low incoming water pressure; inspect the supply line, change filters, and verify the water valve energizes. 'CLEAN' or 'CLEAN REQUIRED' — a scheduled sanitation reminder or indicated by water quality; run the manufacturer's clean cycle. 'SERVICE' or 'SERVICE REQUIRED' — general fault that usually accompanies other code details; it typically means a service call is recommended. Numeric codes like 'E1'/'E2'/'E3' vary by model, but commonly map to water fill problems, temperature/sensor faults, and
Harvest-cycle failures. For example, an 'E1' might flag a water-level or water-sensor issue; 'E2' often means an ice-forming cycle
took too long (harvest/thermostat/sensor); 'E3' or higher could point at refrigeration problems like low pressure, compressor faults, or a frozen condenser.
In practice I run a short checklist: verify power and that the machine isn't in a locked-out state, confirm water pressure and a clear water line, pull and inspect the inlet filter, check for obvious ice bridges in the bin, and clean the condenser fins and air path. If you see refrigeration-related faults (compressor not running, high head pressure, or repeated harvest failures) that's when I stop and call a qualified tech because refrigerant and compressor work needs certified hands. Also, always refer to the model-specific service manual — the same numeric code can mean different things on different control boards. Personally, a calm reset (power down for a minute) and a quick visual inspection solve a surprising number of issues, though nothing beats a proper diagnostic from a pro when the machine keeps tripping.
