Honestly, the most common thread I've seen is Danny as a vector for existential horror. Take a mostly bright, comic-book-y world like 'Ben 10' or 'Teen Titans', and then introduce the Ghost Zone's rules—the obsession, the hauntings, the idea that ghosts are emotions made manifest. It flips the tone. Suddenly it's not just about fighting bad guys; it's about confronting concepts like permanent death, memory, and regret. Crossovers with darker series like 'Supernatural' or 'Danny Phantom' / 'Gravity Falls' leans into this naturally. That tonal clash, where Danny brings a shadow with him even when he's trying to help, is way more interesting to me than another superhero team-up.
Crossovers with 'Danny Phantom'? They always seem to pull from a few core wells. Identity and duality gets huge play—throwing Danny into worlds with other characters who wear masks, like superhero universes from Marvel or DC, just amplifies his 'half-ghost, half-human' struggle. He's forever comparing his secret life to Spider-Man's or Batman's.
There's also the whole 'ghost power as metaphor for teenage alienation' thing blending with other series. I've read a ton where Danny ends up in 'My Hero Academia' or 'Harry Potter', and it's all about his non-standard abilities clashing with their established systems, him being seen as a villain or a monster because he's different. He's an outsider twice over then.
Finally, I notice a lot of 'colliding cosmologies'. Authors love to pit Ghost Zone rules against other magic or science systems. Like, what happens when Danny's ectoplasm meets the Force from 'Star Wars'? Does the Fenton Portal interact with a Stargate? That's where the nerdy, speculative world-building fun really kicks in for the writers, I think.
You know, I feel like a lot of these crossovers are just power fantasies at their heart. Danny goes to another universe—say, the 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' world or the 'Naruto' one—and his ghost powers immediately make him OP. It's less about thematic depth and more about watching him curb-stomp the local villains. Those can be fun for a quick read, but they get repetitive fast.
I prefer the smaller-scale, character-driven ones that focus on his specific trauma. Crossing him with something like 'Percy Jackson' works surprisingly well because both series deal with teenage heroes carrying the weight of a world they didn't ask for. The shared burden theme hits harder than another fight scene. I've seen a few that put him in a slice-of-life anime too, where the drama is just him trying to be a normal kid with a totally abnormal secret, which is kinda the core of his character anyway.

Until Adrian woke up inside the story.

You think I care about titles?” he asked, stepping even closer until I could feel the heat radiating from him. “Do you think that matters to me?”
“It should,” I said, my voice breaking slightly. “It matters to me.”
He tilted his head slightly, studying me. "Why? Why does it matter so much to you?"
“Because,” I said quickly, searching for the right words. “Because people like me... we don’t belong with people like you. You’re... you’re powerful, and I’m—”
“Beautiful,” he cut me off, his voice firm.
I froze, my words dying on my lips. “What?” I whispered.
“You’re beautiful, Sophia,” he said again, his tone softer this time. “And I’m tired of pretending I don’t notice it. You think being a maid defines you, but it doesn’t. Not to me.”

After crashing her stepfather's car, Jo Fisher faces a five-year sentence under the strict oversight of a high-level mafia vampire guardian. **WARNING: INCLUDES DARK SCENES SOME MAY FIND DISTURBING**
In this new world order, large vampire families once thought to be the mafia in the 20th and 21st centuries, now preside over all legal matters and wield global authority after making their true natures known to the world.
Jo's sentence is to be served as a contracted slave at Camilla Academy, a prestigious institution established by the more refined families. Here, vampires at a young age learn to coexist with their human counterparts and maintain control. All while ensuring their human charges become compliant and dependable sources of sustenance.
Jo's options are limited. She must either adopt the role of a slave/pet to a vampire master or become the more cherished ward of a Daddy (or Mommy) vampire, expected to regress into an almost adolescent state of obedience.
Dane, an ancient vampire prince underboss from the original family, is drawn to Jo's vibrant spirit and tendency to push boundaries. Captivated by her fiery demeanor and stubborn temperament, he is determined to have her as his mate rather than a subordinate.
Can he temper Jo's vivacious spirit just enough for them to navigate the academy's demands without extinguishing the very fire that draws him to her?

Honestly, Wattpad's search is its own mini-quest sometimes. The algorithm feels allergic to crossovers. I typed 'Danny Phantom crossover' and got a sea of 'Bad Boy' AUs. My workaround was using the filter for the 'Crossover' tag, then searching 'Danny Phantom' within those results. It's clunky but surfaces more actual mash-ups. Another trick I use is finding a big crossover fic I like and checking the author's reading lists or bookmarks—they often have similar tastes and have already done the digging. You'll find some weird 'Danny x Avengers' stuff, and occasionally a gem where he's dealing with 'Supernatural' monsters.
Word of caution: quality swings wildly. A lot are 'Danny gets adopted by the Justice League' premises. Some are abandoned after three chapters. But I found this one hilarious 'Danny Phantom/Doctor Who' story where the TARDIS mistakes his ghost half for a Time Lord anomaly, and the writing was surprisingly sharp. It's a treasure hunt, really.
