Deca-Dence completely blindsided me in the best way possible. At first glance, I thought it was just another post-apocalyptic anime with humans fighting monsters, but boy was I wrong. The twist a few episodes in flipped everything on its head, merging cyberpunk elements with this gritty survival setting. The animation by Nut studio is fluid, especially during action scenes, and the soundtrack pumps you up like you're part of the battle.
What really hooked me was the dynamic between Natsume, this idealistic rookie, and Kaburagi, her jaded mentor. Their relationship evolves in such unexpected ways, touching on themes of free will and systemic control. It’s not perfect—some side characters feel underdeveloped—but the pacing is tight, and the 12-episode length means no filler. If you enjoy shows that subvert expectations like 'Gurren Lagann' or 'Darling in the Franxx', this one’s a hidden gem.
I went into Deca-Dence expecting a straightforward action romp, but it ended up being a wild commentary on class divides and corporate dystopia—wrapped in a sci-fi shell. The world-building is clever; the 'game-like' hierarchy of the setting mirrors real-world issues without feeling preachy. Natsume’s optimism clashes brilliantly against Kaburagi’s cynicism, and their banter keeps the tone from getting too dark.
The CGI for the Gadoll monsters is hit-or-miss, but the 2D character animation shines, especially in emotional moments. The finale wraps up neatly, though I wish we’d gotten more time in the ‘world behind the world.’ It’s a great pick if you want something thought-provoking but don’t have time for a 50-episode commitment.
Deca-Dence is like if 'Attack on Titan' and 'The Matrix' had a baby, but with way more color. The first three episodes trick you into thinking it’s predictable, then—bam!—the rug gets pulled out. I love how it balances heartwarming moments (Natsume’s determination) with existential dread (the truth about Deca-Dence). The OP track is an absolute bop, too. Short, sweet, and packed with surprises—definitely worth a weekend binge.

“I, Arianna De Mori, reject you, Alpha Dean Ivanov, as my mate and Alpha.” She said, ignoring the clench that she felt in her chest as she held onto her baby.
The Alpha frowned for a second before nodding. “I, Alpha Dean Ivanov, Pakhan, and Alpha of Alphas, accept your rejection.”

It started as a mission, one with no remorse against the rivaling pack.
But when Arianna gives into her mating bond, complications occur.

During the long National Day holidays, I planned a Golden Highlands trip for the whole family. I even booked tickets for a luxurious train ride so we could enjoy the scenery.
But on departure day, my husband and son vanished.
I called my husband. I could hear an airport boarding announcement in the background.
My voice trembled. "Where are you?"
He panicked and mumbled that the company had an emergency before hanging up.
I tried calling again, but the line was busy.
The next day, he posted an update on his social media.
In the photo, he stood beneath the snowy peaks of Wintercrown with one arm around his old love while the other held our son.
The caption read: [If we had been a little braver back then...]
A friend commented: [Where is your wife?]
I stared at his reply: [She's sick and resting at home.]
Three expired train tickets sat on the table as my eyes welled up with tears.
A decade of marriage.
A pack of lies.
It was time to bring it all to a close.
