The story of Deku's road to getting his quirk makes for an incredible read.A Loser in the Beginning. In the world of My Hero Academia, where everyone is aiming to be superhuman and superior, being Quirkless is considered beneath contempt.

But that does not daunt him at all; with optimistic spirit and steadfast resolution he dreams of becoming a hero himselfWhen he stands firm, meets the hero he respects most -- All Might, and takes that first stepAgainst all odds, it also has the faintest suggestion of happy ending.

Ryuko also happened early on, as early as the second story when Akira's abilities: Ryuko itselfTurning from here, we see him grow, training and harnessing this overwhelming power all in keeping with his kind hearted natureBecause as one friend who knows him well says, 'that's a real hero!'

My world of academia is an unlikely school which tempts teens to drop pressmen with live ammo. His idol and mentor, All Might, I met Deku after the unfortunate slip while standing on a leaf from a tree. In the early stages of the series, this takes place specifically on episode 2, where All Might gives his power "One For All" to Deku on account of his brave and truly heroic spirit despite not having any quirk.

Recall the first time Deku met All Might? It was that meeting that set the scene for Deku's whole life. Always a loser, born without a quirk, Deku remained firmly an underdog. But his heart was filled with dreams, and the urge to do good burned on within him-all of which qualities received high praise from All Might. The second episode of 'My Hero Academia’ transforms the world.

From this perspective, All Might was able to see that he had potential. Thus, All Might passed his full strength and extraordinary strength, 'One for All' To Deku. The moment was thrilling, to say the least. You could almost feel Deku's happiness and relief. The story beautifully captured the pain he underwent until finally gaining a quirk of his own.

How did Deku get his quirk in My Hero Academia?

4 Answers2026-04-23 10:37:25
Deku's journey to getting his quirk is one of those classic underdog stories that hits right in the feels. Initially born quirkless in a world where superpowers are the norm, he idolized heroes like All Might but had no hope of becoming one himself. Then, after proving his bravery by rushing in to save Bakugo from a villain despite having no powers, All Might recognized his potential. The Symbol of Peace passed his quirk, 'One For All,' to Deku—a power that stockpiles strength and can be transferred between users. The training to inherit it was brutal, but Deku’s sheer determination made him worthy. It’s not just about the power; it’s about the heart behind it. What makes this moment so special is how it flips the script on typical shonen tropes. Deku didn’t stumble into his power by accident or birthright; he earned it through selflessness. The way All Might chooses him echoes the theme that true heroism isn’t about having power but using it for others. Plus, the emotional weight of All Might entrusting his legacy to this scrawny, crying kid gets me every rewatch.

Deku's journey with his quirk, 'One For All,' is one of the most compelling arcs in 'My Hero Academia.' Initially, he inherits this power from All Might, but his body isn't ready to handle its raw strength. The early episodes show him breaking bones with every punch, which is both painful and thrilling to watch. Over time, he learns to control it through intense training, starting with focusing the power into specific limbs rather than his whole body. What really fascinates me is how the quirk evolves beyond just physical strength. Later, we discover that 'One For All' harbors the vestiges of past users, each contributing unique abilities. Deku unlocks these gradually—like Blackwhip, Float, and Danger Sense—adding layers to his combat style. It’s not just about punching harder anymore; it’s about strategy and adapting to these new quirks mid-battle. The way Kohei Horikoshi weaves these elements into Deku’s growth feels organic, like watching a hero truly come into his own.

How did Deku Sensei get his powers?

The story of how Izuku Midoriya, aka Deku, got his quirk is one of those classic underdog tales that just hits different. Initially, he was born without any powers in a world where nearly everyone has them, which made his dream of becoming a hero seem impossible. But his relentless spirit caught the attention of All Might, the symbol of peace, who saw something special in him. After proving his bravery by rushing in to save Bakugo despite being quirkless, All Might passed 'One For All' to him—a power that stockpiles strength from previous users. The training to inherit it was brutal, but Deku’s determination never wavered. It’s not just about the power itself; it’s about how he earned it through sheer grit and heart. What makes this even more compelling is the legacy behind 'One For All.' It’s not some random ability; it’s a torch passed down through generations, each wielder adding to its strength. Deku inheriting it feels like fate, but also a responsibility. The way his body struggled to handle it at first added this layer of vulnerability to his journey. Every time he pushes past his limits, it’s a reminder that power isn’t just given—it’s grown through struggle. That’s why his story resonates so deeply; it’s messy, painful, and utterly human.

how many quirks does deku have

Brushing aside a few dust bunnies on my knowledge of 'My Hero Academia', Izuku Midoriya (codename: Deku) was initially quirkless. But, he's rewarded with one (and quite a powerful one at that) by All Might. This quirk, called 'One For All', allows him access to not only All Might's power, but the quirks of the previous users as well. So, buckle up, cuz Deku technically has up to eight quirks. This includes the base 'One For All' and seven other quirks from its previous users, but he's still on the journey of discovering and mastering them all.

what was deku's original quirk

Though it may seem a bit shocking for newcomers to the colorful world of 'My Hero Academia', but our beloved protagonist, Izuku Midoriya, also known as Deku, was actually born Quirkless. Yes, you heard it right! At the start of the series, he was just a normal kid with an overwhelming admiration for heroes, especially All Might, but he lacked any sort of superhuman abilities - something that made his dream seem all the more unattainable. However, he was not always Quirkless; long story short, he inherited the all-powerful 'One For All' from his idol All Might; it's what turned this Quirkless fanboy into an aspiring hero.

Was Deku born with a quirk in My Hero Academia?

Midoriya Izuku's journey in 'My Hero Academia' is one of those stories that hit differently because it feels so personal. At first, he’s this quirkless kid in a world where almost everyone has some kind of superpower. The way he idolizes All Might and scribbles notes about heroes like his life depends on it—it’s relatable, you know? That crushing moment when he’s told he can’t be a hero without a quirk? Oof. But then, OFA changes everything. It’s not just about power; it’s about proving that heart matters more than genetics. The show does a brilliant job of making you feel every setback and triumph. What’s wild is how his 'quirkless' start actually shapes him. He’s analytical, careful, because he had to be. When Bakugo mocks him for being 'born weak,' it stings, but it also fuels Deku’s growth. The reveal about OFA’s legacy quirks later? Mind-blowing. It adds layers to his 'blank slate' origin, but the core never changes: he’s still the kid who ran into danger before he had any power at all.

How did Deku get a quirk if he was born without one?

Deku's journey from being quirkless to inheriting One For All is one of those classic underdog stories that just hits different. The whole thing starts with him being this huge fan of heroes, especially All Might, but stuck in this brutal reality where he's born without a quirk in a world where quirks are everything. It's heartbreaking, right? But then All Might sees something in him—this relentless spirit, the way Deku rushes in to save Bakugo even when he's powerless. That moment changes everything. All Might decides to pass down his quirk, One For All, to Deku, but it's not some instant power-up. The training montage where Deku has to clean up that beach to build his strength is iconic. It's grueling, but it shows how much he's willing to sacrifice to live up to the legacy. One For All itself is wild because it's not just a quirk; it's a torch passed down through generations, stacking power with each successor. All Might was the eighth holder, and Deku becomes the ninth. The quirk's origin ties back to All For One, the big bad who forced a power-stockpiling quirk onto his younger brother, who already had a quirk to pass on abilities. Those two quirks merged into One For All, and it's been growing ever since. Deku inheriting it isn't just about strength—it's about carrying the hopes of everyone who came before him. The way he struggles to control it at first, breaking his bones with every punch, makes his growth feel earned. It's not handed to him; he fights for every bit of progress, and that's what makes his arc so satisfying.

Did Deku's quirk manifest at birth or later?

Midoriya Izuku's quirk situation in 'My Hero Academia' is one of those heartbreaking yet inspiring backstories that sticks with you. Unlike most kids in his world, Deku was born quirkless—a fact that shaped his entire childhood. The series makes it painfully clear early on that quirks typically manifest around age four, but Izuku never experienced that moment. Instead, he spent years clinging to hope, filling notebooks with hero analysis while facing ridicule for his 'late bloomer' delusion. What makes his journey so gripping is how this absence defines him before One For All enters the picture. That pivotal doctor's visit scene still guts me—the way his mother apologizes through tears after hearing the diagnosis. It reframes everything about his underdog status. The irony, of course, is that his eventual power doesn't even originate from him biologically. All Might's transfer of One For All isn't a natural quirk manifestation, but a passed-down torch. There's something poetic about the quirkless kid inheriting a legacy meant to combat the very system that initially excluded him. Kohei Horikoshi really nailed that emotional duality—Deku's 'manifestation' moment isn't biological, but ideological, when he first runs out to save Bakugo despite having no powers.

How does Deku develop in MHA?

Watching Deku's journey in 'My Hero Academia' feels like watching a seedling grow into a towering tree against all odds. At first, he’s this scrawny, quirkless kid with nothing but a notebook full of hero analysis and a heart bursting with determination. All Might sees that raw potential and passes One For All to him, but the power literally breaks his body at first. The early arcs are brutal—Deku’s constantly bandaged up, learning through pain. But what gets me is how he turns his analytical mind into a weapon. He doesn’t just rely on brute force; he studies opponents, adapts, and innovates, like when he first uses Shoot Style to protect his arms. By the Paranormal Liberation War arc, he’s unrecognizable from the boy who cried on the rooftop. The way he masters Blackwhip, Float, and other quirks within One For All shows how much he’s internalized the idea of teamwork—he’s not just inheriting powers but legacies. The recent manga chapters? Heart-wrenching. Deku’s so exhausted he looks like a ghost of himself, yet he keeps going because saving people is ingrained in his bones. His development isn’t just about power-ups; it’s about the cost of heroism and whether society even deserves his sacrifice.

How does Deku's quirk evolve in the My Hero Academia manga?

Deku's quirk evolution in 'My Hero Academia' is one of the most compelling arcs in the series. Initially, he inherits 'One For All' from All Might, but his body can't handle its raw power, leading to self-inflicted injuries. Over time, he learns to distribute the quirk's energy through 'Full Cowling,' channeling it evenly across his body instead of focusing it in single limbs. This breakthrough transforms his combat style from reckless to strategic. Later, the manga reveals deeper layers of 'One For All,' including vestiges of past users and hidden quirks. Deku unlocks abilities like 'Blackwhip,' 'Float,' and 'Danger Sense,' each tied to a previous wielder. The emotional weight of these discoveries is huge—Deku isn’t just mastering a power; he’s connecting with a legacy. The way Horikoshi ties quirk evolution to character growth is masterful, making every new ability feel earned.
