EPUB and PDF, from what I remember. Maybe I'm forgetting one. The PDFs are sometimes just awful quality, like someone photocopied a library book and ran it through bad OCR. You get what you pay for, I guess.
I stick to EPUB when I can. Smaller file size, reflowable text. The site's interface doesn't always make it obvious which format you're getting until you click through, which is a bit annoying. Wish they'd label them better.
Mainly EPUB and PDF. EPUB's the way to go for most e-readers and apps. The PDFs are a last resort for me unless it's something with lots of diagrams or illustrations that need a fixed layout.
Last time I downloaded from them, it was pretty much just EPUB and PDF. Some titles might have MOBI, but honestly I've seen fewer of those since Amazon's whole Kindle format shift. The PDFs are sometimes just scanned images of physical books, which can be a pain to read on a phone but okay on a tablet.
What's interesting is they don't seem to offer AZW3 or KFX, which makes sense if they're trying to stay platform-neutral. EPUB is the real workhorse there. If you're using something like a Kobo or the Books app on an iPhone, you're covered. For Android, any decent reader app handles EPUB fine.
The lack of newer formats means you miss out on some typographical features, but for free stuff, it's hard to complain. I usually convert the EPUBs if I need something specific for my old Kindle.

Absolutely, and it's one of the main reasons I shifted almost entirely to digital reading. Most ebook platforms have a 'Download' option for their app. Take Libby, for instance, which connects to your library card; you borrow a book, hit download in the app, and it's saved locally on your phone. Same with Kindle—whether you buy a book or get one via Prime Reading, you just tap 'Download' and it's stored. That means you can read on the subway, on a plane, or anywhere with zero signal, and your place is saved locally too. It's seamless.
A thing to watch for is the format. Some sites offer PDFs or EPUBs you can manually transfer, but for the smoothest offline experience, using the official app is usually the way. I've sideloaded EPUBs into the Apple Books app before, and it works, but the integrated store-and-download flow in dedicated apps is just more reliable. The only minor gripe is that some apps require you to be online to initially 'unlock' the book or verify your account periodically, but that's rare for most major services. My train commute is a dead zone, and I've never been locked out mid-chapter.
I can tell you that most websites do support offline reading, but it depends on the format and the device you're using. For example, sites like Project Gutenberg offer EPUB and MOBI files, which you can download and transfer to an e-reader like a Kindle for offline use. Some platforms, like ManyBooks, even have apps that let you download books directly to your phone or tablet for reading without an internet connection. The key is to check the download options—look for formats compatible with your device. PDFs are universally readable offline, but they aren't the best for smaller screens.
