No official word yet, but if I had to guess, the Z Flip 7 will probably match or slightly exceed the Z Flip 5’s IPX8 rating. Waterproofing foldables is a tough engineering challenge, so I wouldn’t expect a massive leap. Still, even minor improvements would be welcome—maybe better seals around the hinge? Until Samsung confirms, I’m not planning any underwater photography.

I’ve been burned before by assuming my phone could handle water, so I’m cautiously optimistic about the Z Flip 7. Samsung’s been steadily improving durability with each generation, and leaks suggest they’re focusing harder on ruggedness. Waterproofing would be a huge selling point, especially for clumsy folks like me who’ve dropped their phone in a pool. But until we get official specs, I’m treating any rumors with skepticism.

One thing’s for sure: if it does have a high IP rating, Samsung will market it aggressively. Remember how they mocked Apple’s ‘water resistance’ in ads? I’d love to see them put their money where their mouth is. For now, I’ll keep my Z Flip 5 away from showers and rainstorms—better safe than sorry.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 hasn't been officially announced yet, so we don't have concrete details about its waterproofing capabilities. But if we look at Samsung's track record with previous models like the Z Flip 5, which had an IPX8 rating—meaning it could survive underwater for a while but wasn't dustproof—it's safe to assume the Z Flip 7 might follow suit or even improve. I’d love to see them bump it up to a full IP68 rating, especially since competitors like the iPhone have had that for years. Folding phones are tricky with water resistance because of all those moving parts, so Samsung would have to really innovate to pull it off.

That said, even if it’s waterproof, I wouldn’t push my luck by taking it for a swim. My Z Flip 5 survived an accidental dunk in the sink, but I still dried it off immediately. Waterproof ratings are more about peace of mind than an invitation to test limits. If the Z Flip 7 does come with better protection, I hope they also make the hinge more resilient—nothing ruins a day faster than a soggy, creaky fold.
