You can read the first chapter free right on the publisher's website, Scholastic, if I remember right. They often host excerpts to promote their big titles. Also, check out sites like Goodreads; sometimes they have previews embedded. It's a low-risk way to see if the tense, first-person present narration works for you. I found the opening really hooks you with Katniss's voice immediately.

It does, and I think it’s strategically the perfect chunk of the book to offer. It covers the ordinary world and the inciting incident (the reaping and volunteering) completely. It’s a full story beat. You get a beginning, middle, and end for that initial sequence, which is immensely satisfying and leaves you wanting the next beat.

Oh, undoubtedly. It’s a cornerstone of digital publishing. The sample for ‘The Hunger Games’ is particularly effective because the first chapter is so self-contained yet cliffhangery. You get a complete emotional beat—the terror of the reaping, the sacrifice—but you’re left desperate to know about the training and the arena. Masterfully done.

"Althea."
I still. I shiver. He says my name like it's sacred, like it's an oath he's swearing.
He tilts his head to the side, eyes roaming over my face. "Tell me," he murmurs, "what do you want me to call you?"
My eyes slowly meet his, confused by his question. "What do you want to call me?"
"I want to call you mine.”

The Alpha Games is a werewolf romance story, with a kickass lead and an enemies-to-lovers twist.
Heartbreak is supposed to kill a wolf’s spirit, but Aria Vale refuses to die quietly.
Humiliated before her entire pack when her fated mate publicly rejects her, Aria returns home, shattered and furious, only to find a black envelope waiting on her bed. Inside lies an invitation to a deadly challenge known only as The Game:
“Survive, and win what your heart desires most.”
With nothing left to lose, Aria enters a realm beyond her world, an ancient castle suspended between life and death, where each dawn brings a new trial of survival. Competitors vanish one by one, hunted by the magic that governs the Game.
But not everyone is what they seem. One contestant, a charming, infuriatingly optimistic wolf named Kael, seems more interested in keeping her alive than winning himself. His warmth disarms her, his smiles irritate her, and his secrets could destroy them both.
Now Aria must survive the trials, outsmart the goddess who created them, and decide what freedom truly means: breaking her bond to the mate who betrayed her, or risking everything for the wolf who was never supposed to love her.
The practicalities are all covered here, so I’ll just nod in agreement. It’s a clear yes. The system works exactly as advertised. It’s a low-friction, high-reward aspect of modern reading. I hope the OP grabs the sample and enjoys the plunge into Panem. It’s a ride from the very first page.
The sheer omnipresence of this sample is a testament to the book's status. It's a classic, so every platform wants to be the one to give you that first taste. You really can't go wrong. Just pick the icon on your phone's home screen that you tap most often for reading-related stuff, and you'll likely find it within two searches.
