Hmm. Interesting question. I never really broke it down like this while reading; I just followed the story. I guess she gets tougher? Less cry-y? But in a good way, like she learns to use her sadness as fuel instead of letting it drown her. The whole angel boyfriend thing definitely forces her to get a grip on reality, even if that reality is super weird. She kinda has to grow up fast.

Can I be honest? I found the shift in the third book a bit disappointing because it became so hyper-focused on them.
