I approached her work backwards, reading the newest ('Lost Pearls') first. I didn't feel lost at all. If anything, it made me appreciate her earlier, more setting-driven books ('The Chateau') in a different light. Seeing how she tightened the plot in the later book was interesting. So really, any direction works.

For visual learners, imagine a mind map. In the center: 'Jan Moran Historical Romance'. Branching out: 'Post-WWII France' -> 'The Chateau'. '1950s Napa/Tuscany' -> 'The Winemakers'. 'Victorian England' -> 'The Secret of the Lost Pearls'. 'WWI/WWII Perfumery' -> 'Scent of Triumph'. 'Turn-of-the-Century Summer' -> 'The Summer of New Beginnings'. Choose your preferred time and place.

Her books are perfect for when you want a romance but also want to learn a little something. I knew nothing about perfumery before 'Scent of Triumph' and now I bore my friends with fun facts about scent notes. It's that nice blend of education and entertainment that makes historical fiction so rewarding.

I appreciate authors who don't lock readers into a massive series. It feels respectful of our time and wallets. We can enjoy a complete story in one volume. Moran's historicals respect that model, and I wish more authors would do the same.

The paperback editions often have reading group questions at the back. They're almost always focused on the heroine's choices, the historical context, and the themes of secrets/legacy. Not once have I seen a question that references another of her novels. That's a dead giveaway that each book is its own complete universe.

The Twin Alpha's Mate - After finishing medical school. Summer is looking forward to being a doctor in her hometown. But the future Luna hates her. For her own safety, it is necessary for Summer to leave the pack she adores and the family she loves.
Summer doesn't realize that she got pregnant from the pair of men she slept with at the ‘Representatives Meeting' during the last Blue Moon.
Summer must quickly adapt to her new life as a single mother in a new pack and new job. Can she manage? Of course she can. She will not fail.
The Blue Moon brings about a period of dormancy for all wolves. Summer’s medical skills are needed. This results in a treaty with the local rogue pack. Making Crystal Lake Pack the safest place in the Wolf Kingdom for wolves to live.
Which is great for the Alpha of Crystal Lake Pack. But not good for Summer, who prefers to keep a low profile. It significantly complicates Summer’s life when the royal family, and the royal guard, decide to pay a visit. They are not the only ones though.

“When passion takes control, nothing stays innocent.”
Some cravings are too sinful to confess, too dangerous to speak aloud. '𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒 𝐓𝐎𝐎 𝐍𝐄𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐓𝐄𝐋𝐋 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐑 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐒' which are whispered in the dark, written between trembling thighs, and etched in the silence after desire has burned through reason.
Every fantasy in these pages is a secret you shouldn’t want, yet can’t resist. Every character is temptation draped in silk and sin. Every ending leaves you aching for just one more taste.
There are desires you bury deep, the kind that scorch your soul with shame and hunger in equal measure. But sins don’t stay silent forever, they claw their way out, whispered in the dark, confessed with trembling lips, and written in the heat between forbidden bodies.
'Forbidden Romance Tales' dives straight into those steamy, secret affair where every touch and glance is electrified with forbidden desire. It's all about indulging in those hidden cravings with no boundaries, where pleasure knows no limits and desire is the only rule.

Jocelyn Marie is a widow who took over her late husband’s business. She threw herself into her work to dull the pain of her loss. When several of them show interest in her, she doesn’t hesitate to jump in with both feet. The marines are all interested in a multiple-partner relationship due to a promise they made to each other back in the service. For Jocelyn, she wants to get into this multiple-partner relationship to find herself again and bring meaning and joy back into her life. She has been falling down her own slippery slope of emotions, hardships and addictions. She wants to grab life by the horns, heal and just run with it. Sinners & Saints: A Collection Of Dark Romance Stories

This author once failed as a heroine… and returned as something entirely different.
Not as a savior.
But as the villain.
And she didn’t come back empty-handed.
She brought secrets.
She brought sins.
She brought a story that was never meant to be read.
Sinners & Saints is not just a collection of dark romance stories—
It is a confession.
A warning.
And a door best left unopened.
Within these pages lie twisted love stories where desire and destruction walk hand in hand, and every choice comes with a cost.
So the question is simple:
Will you turn away…
or step inside anyway?
I find the discussion of 'order' so interesting. It reveals how we all approach reading differently. Some are completists who need system, others are mood readers. For Jan Moran, her catalog is welcoming either way. There's no wrong door to enter.
I love a good list, so here's my personal, totally subjective ranking of where to start: 1. 'The Chateau' (for a mix of modern and historical mystery). 2. 'Scent of Triumph' (for epic historical depth). 3. 'The California Heiress' (for contemporary glamour). 4. Then branch out to the rest of whichever series you liked best. This isn't chronological; it's based on hooking a new reader with her most accessible, engaging work. Consider it a 'sampler platter' approach.
The order is literally in the titles if you think about the passage of a year at a beachside B&B. You open the inn, then you go through summer, then sunset (fall), then Christmas (winter), and finally a reunion that likely happens the following year. It's a clever and intuitive naming scheme for the sequence.
If you're an emotional reader who gets attached to characters, do yourself a favor and start from the beginning. You'll grow to care about them more because you'll have spent more time with them, seen their low points and their triumphs. A victory in book five feels like your victory because you remember when they were struggling in book one. A romantic reunion hits harder because you remember the breakup. The author banks on that accumulated emotional investment. Reading out of order short-circuits that process. Give yourself the chance to become a true resident of Summer Beach, not just a tourist passing through one book.
The series opener is 'Sunrise on the Coast'. One subtle thing I like is that the protagonists are often women at a later stage in life, not just young adults. They bring experience, past hurts, and wisdom to their new beginning.
This is established in the first book and makes the story more relatable to a wider audience. The romance feels mature and considered. It’s about building a new chapter, not just a first love. That perspective is refreshing and sets the tone for the series.
