Library apps have revolutionized reading for me, but they've also changed my habits. I'm more impulsive—if I see a book with no wait, I borrow it immediately, even if I wasn't looking for it. I'm also more likely to ditch a book I'm not enjoying because the 'return' button is right there.
It's a different relationship with books. Less commitment, more sampling. Finding a specific title like 'Hush Hush' requires shifting back to an intentional, search-based mindset, which the apps aren't always designed for.

Regional differences are wild. I moved from a big city to a rural area, and my digital library options shrunk dramatically. The new library's Hoopla collection is decent, but their Libby selection is a fraction of what I'm used to. I mourn the lost catalog every day.
It's made me much more proactive about requesting purchases. Don't assume your librarians know what's missing; they need to hear from us patrons to prioritize.

The metadata issue is real. I searched for a book once, and it didn't show up because the library's record had the subtitle included in the main title field, breaking the standard search. I had to Google the ISBN, then search by that in the app to find it.
It's a long shot, but if you're desperate, find the ISBN for 'Hush Hush' and try searching that string of numbers in Libby. It's the unique identifier that cuts through all the title/author confusion.

My father has chosen me to succeed him in the family business.
But if I want the job, it comes with stipulations. And one of those stipulations is to never mix business with pleasure. AKA, don't sleep with anyone on the job. My father leads by example, and not once have I ever seen him get involved with anyone, not even his beautiful assistant. That was an easy rule to follow...until Axel.
Axel is an expert distributor, someone who knows how to get our product past the ruthless regulations mandated by the government. My father has never had a partner, but he makes an exception for Axel because he's good at what he does.
But the second our eyes meet...there's fire. He's by far the most handsome man I've ever seen, and his I couldn't care less attitude makes me weak. But I put up boundaries and reject his advances.
But this man doesn't stop until he gets what he wants.
One night together becomes the precursor to the most passionate affair of my life. If my father discovers our secret, it'll cost me my career...and it'll cost Axel his life. To make matters worse, I'm falling for this man...and I think he's falling for me too.
Twenty-six, brilliant, and achingly untouched, PhD student Cassie walks into the city’s most exclusive sex club because of a bet against her virginity. She chooses him blindly: a cruel Dom who drags her to the hidden chambers, spreads her trembling thighs, and takes her virginity with slow, savage thrusts while she screams. She never sees his face.
She buries the memory under ambition, until her mother’s death forces her back to her home.
Her brother offers her an internship with his best friend, Reginald Walker; an introverted, lethal and impossibly controlled CEO. The man whose mere presence makes her wet and reckless. Cassie pushes until Reggie snaps, chains her on the wooden crucifix, spreads her legs and fucks her till she's speaking in tongues.
Despite the fact that Reggie cannot do emotions, their secret affair turns raw and desperate: His hand is always fisted in her hair, his neck filled with hickeys that his shirt cannot hide. Their love and lust is so violent it terrifies them both.
Then the devil returns. Dominic is the one who broke Cassie's virginity and he recognises her one night at a party. He does everything to get a taste of her again, including blackmail.
When Reggie refuses to believe that the pictures he received are from the past, he walks out but they get back. Before they can fully reconcile, Reggie's ex comes with full force. Cassie runs to her brother with a broken heart. Reggie drowns in whiskey and self-loathing. On his knees in the rain,he begs for her forgiveness and love.
She gives it, but nothing is the same again. They start over slowly, trying to rebuild what Dominic nearly destroyed.
One careful kiss, one trembling “I love you,” one fragile heartbeat at a time.

A Collection of Rated 18+ Stories (Mature Content)
It always started with a bad decisio, or even maybe just a bad timing.
Three years ago, he was living a dream of successful, independent, and settled in a stunning luxury penthouse overlooking the city. And Now, the money is tighter, the pressure is real, and the lifestyle he built is slowly slipping through his fingers.
So when his younger sister, Gretta, gets a job in the same city, asking her to move in feels like the only option left he can offer.
It should be simple. Just two siblings sharing space. Right?
But it’s not.
Because beneath the surface of their normal lives lies something neither of them has ever fully confronted,, something that began years ago during a strange, unforgettable night far from home. A moment that separated lines, shifted perspectives, and left behind a silence they both agreed never to break till then.
Now, forced into close quarters together again, that silence feels heavier than ever before.
The Old memories resurface. Boundaries feel thinner. And the tension between what’s right and what’s felt becomes harder to ignore and argue.
Shhh… They Will Hear Us is a bold collection of mature, 18+ stories that explore secrecy, complicated relationships, inner conflict, desires and the consequences of unspoken desires. These stories are not about what’s said out loud but what hidden in the quiet.
This isn’t a fantasy. It’s a reckoning.
Of every boundary you swore you’d never cross.
Of every secret you kept hidden behind polite smiles.
Of the last fragile thread of hesitation you were clinging to.
These aren’t gentle romances.
They’re possessions.
Each chapter is slow and deliberate, drawing you deeper into shadows you know you shouldn’t explore. The tension builds with every page, pulling you in until you can’t look away.
You won’t stop.
You can’t stop.
This is where innocence is tested in broad daylight.
Where your best friend’s older brother corners you with words that leave you breathless.
Where your married professor keeps you after class and blurs every line between teacher and temptation.
Where your stepfather finally stops pretending… and claims what’s been his all along.
They don’t ask.
They take.
They unravel you with dark eyes, commanding presence, and voices that turn your resistance into surrender.
They’ll make you question everything.
Make you feel things you never thought possible.
You’ll feel guilty.
You’ll feel exposed.
You’ll feel alive.
So keep the door locked.
And baby?
Be warned: this book doesn’t just linger in your mind.
It changes you.
Lol, joining the chorus here: Webnovel. But here’s a pro-tip nobody mentioned—create a new account. Sometimes they give a bigger welcome bonus of coins to new users. If you’ve already burned through your main account’s freebies, try that on a different device. Also, follow the story’s official page on the app. Sometimes the author or platform posts bonus codes in the comments section during holidays or milestones for free coins. It’s a scavenger hunt, but it works. Just don’t be spammy about it in the comments asking for codes; people hate that.
I wish I could say it's smooth sailing across the board, but it's really hit or miss depending on where you live and what system your library uses. OverDrive and Libby are the big ones, and they work seamlessly for sending a book to Kindle from a phone or tablet. You browse, borrow, and get a 'Read with Kindle' button that kicks you over to Amazon to complete the delivery.
My library switched to Libby a while back, and the experience is a lot more modern than the old OverDrive app. The annoying part is that not every single title in the library's digital catalog is Kindle-compatible—some are just epub files you have to read in the Libby app itself, which I find clunky compared to my Kindle's screen. The selection feels more limited, too, especially for newer or super-popular stuff where there's always a long waitlist.
It still beats buying every book, though, and the Kindle delivery system itself is the easiest part once you get the hang of which format to look for.
Sync your library card to Goodreads if you use it. Libby has an option to update your 'currently reading' status when you borrow. It's a neat little integration for tracking, and it helps Goodreads recommend similar library-available books for your next borrow.
The privacy aspect is worth considering. When you borrow a physical book, your reading habits are between you and the library's checkout system. With digital loans, the app provider and potentially the publisher get detailed data on your reading speed, when you read, where you stop, etc.
For most people, the convenience outweighs this. But it's a different relationship with reading that's more quantified and tracked. Just something to be aware of in our data-heavy world.
Let's talk device compatibility. Libby books can be read on the app (iOS/Android), sent to a Kindle (in the US), or read in a browser on a computer. I read mostly on a Kindle Paperwhite, so I borrow in Libby and choose 'Read with Kindle.' It redirects me to Amazon to deliver the book. It's a seamless handoff. Just remember, when the loan expires, the book is automatically removed from your Kindle. No late fees, just a gentle digital vanishing act.
The privacy aspect can't be overstated. Maybe you live in a small town where the librarian is your neighbor. Maybe you just don't want your partner or kids seeing the title on the family Amazon account. Library apps provide a separate, confidential space for your reading. Your borrow history is usually only visible to you (and the library admin, but they don't care). It's a safe way to explore genres you might be hesitant about. For a book with this particular reputation, that privacy is a significant benefit over other acquisition methods.
