I just finished re-reading 'Jessica Darling’s It List 2' and loved how Megan McCafferty expanded the world with some fresh faces! The standout new character is definitely Dori, this super quirky girl who becomes Jessica’s unexpected ally. She’s got this offbeat sense of humor and a knack for saying the wildest things at the wrong time, which cracks me up. Then there’s Burke Roy, the mysterious new boy who throws Jessica’s already chaotic middle school life into even more confusion. He’s got that 'quiet artist' vibe, and you can tell Jessica’s torn between curiosity and frustration with him.
Another newcomer is Hope’s cousin, Sara, who’s visiting for a while. She’s more polished and worldly compared to Jessica’s usual crew, which creates some fun tension. McCafferty does a great job making these characters feel real—like Dori’s awkwardness or Burke’s aloofness aren’t just plot devices but quirks that remind me of people I actually knew in school. The way they shake up Jessica’s dynamics with her old friends, especially Bridget and Manda, adds so much depth to the story. It’s like watching a puzzle where the pieces keep changing shape.
What I adore about the second 'It List' book is how Jessica’s world feels bigger but also messier, thanks to the new characters. Dori’s introduction is a highlight—she’s this walking contradiction of confidence and social clumsiness, and her friendship with Jessica feels so organic. Then there’s Burke, who’s less of a 'love interest' and more of a puzzle Jessica can’t solve, which is refreshing for a middle-grade book. The tension between his artistic aloofness and Jessica’s sharp wit makes their scenes spark.
Sara, Hope’s cousin, brings this almost glamorous outsider energy that contrasts hilariously with Jessica’s grounded sarcasm. It’s neat how McCafferty uses her to explore class differences subtly—like when Sara casually mentions things Jessica’s family would never afford. These newcomers don’t just fill space; they push Jessica to question her assumptions about popularity, loyalty, and even herself. The book’s charm is how it balances lighthearted middle school drama with these little moments of growth.
Burke Roy stole the show for me in 'It List 2.' He’s not your typical middle-school-boy archetype—he’s into photography, barely talks, and has this quiet intensity that throws Jessica off. Their interactions are awkward in the best way, like when he critiques her yearbook photos with deadpan honesty. Dori’s another gem; her unfiltered commentary and fearless weirdness make her the friend Jessica didn’t know she needed. The way McCafferty writes her, you can almost hear her interrupting conversations with random facts about capybaras or something.
Sara’s more of a foil, with her big-city sophistication clashing with Pineville’s small-town vibe. Her presence shakes up Jessica’s friend group, especially when Manda starts fawning over her. It’s a smart way to show how fragile middle-school alliances can be. These characters don’t just advance the plot—they make Jessica’s world richer and way more Entertaining.

*Davina Quinton POV*
That cheating man... how dare he cheat on me with that woman! Fine. Since they don't know my true identity, I'll take them down and make them regret crossing me.

Picking up from where "Who's The Loser Volume 2" left off, the next generation of the Quinton Consortium has arrived.
Davina Quinton, the daughter of Derek Quinton, set out to live on her own in Wisteria, only to be cheated on by her boyfriend.
Now, to make him and his family pay, she has decided to return to Townsville and resume her rightful role: as the "Loser Heir".
In the novel 'It', Stephen King introduces a fresh set of characters that add depth to the story. The most notable is Mike Hanlon, the only Black member of the Losers' Club, who serves as the group's historian. His meticulous record-keeping becomes crucial in their battle against Pennywise. Another key character is Henry Bowers, the primary antagonist among the human characters. His descent into madness and violence is both terrifying and tragic. Additionally, we meet Beverly Marsh, a brave and resourceful girl who becomes a central figure in the group's dynamics. Her resilience and courage are pivotal in their fight against the evil clown. For those who enjoy complex characters, 'The Stand' by Stephen King offers a similarly rich ensemble.
In 'It Follows 2', the story expands with a fresh set of characters who bring new layers to the haunting narrative. The most notable is Elena, a college student who becomes entangled in the curse after a seemingly innocent date. Her skepticism about the supernatural makes her a compelling contrast to the original group. Then there’s Marcus, a former detective turned conspiracy theorist, who believes the entity is part of a larger government experiment. His paranoia adds a gritty, investigative edge to the plot.
Another key figure is Priya, a tech-savvy hacker who uses her skills to track the entity’s movements. Her analytical mind provides a modern twist to the fight against the curse. Lastly, we meet Jake, a high school teacher with a tragic past tied to the entity. His emotional depth and determination to protect his students make him a standout. These characters not only diversify the story but also deepen the exploration of fear and survival.
