Think of it like leveling a character in an RPG. You wouldn’t start at max level and work backwards. You start at Level 1. The novel is designed with that same addictive, incremental progression. So start at the start.

Even the ‘slow’ early chapters pay off massively later. Trust the process.

I guess the most concise answer is: numerically. It’s not like ‘Haruhi Suzumiya’ where there’s a debate. The author wrote a beginning, a middle, and an end, in that order. Read it in that order.

Enjoy the ride—it’s a classic for a reason.

The manhwa is currently adapting the story, but it hasn’t caught up to the novel’s ending. If you want the complete story, the novel is the way. And for the novel, the order is clearly numbered volumes.

Some people like to read the novel up to the current manhwa point, then switch to the comic. That’s a valid approach, but again, for the novel portion, it’s in order.

The emotional payoff of the final main story chapters is monumental. It works because you’ve spent so many volumes with Jin-Woo. Reading the side stories first would completely undercut that climax.

Protect your first-time experience by following the numbers on the cover.

What order should I read alone leveling chapters or volumes?

The structure of 'Solo Leveling' can be a bit confusing because of the different formats it's released in. You've got the original Korean web novel, the manhwa adaptation, and official print volumes. For a first-time reader, the clearest path is to start with the manhwa chapters, which are widely available online. Just begin at Chapter 1 and read straight through the main story to its conclusion around Chapter 179. After that, if you're hungry for more, you can check out the side stories. They're often labeled as 'After Stories' or bundled in the volume releases and explore what happens after the main plot ends. Trying to read the web novel and manhwa side-by-side gets messy fast due to pacing differences, so I'd stick to one medium at a time for a cleaner experience.
