I'm just here for the comments. Everyone has such strong opinions! I've only read 'Still Beating' and it wrecked me (in a good way). Now I'm scared to dive into the rest without a map. This thread is my map. Thanks, guys.

The order is like a tapestry. Start at one corner ('Lotus') and follow the threads. If you jump to the middle ('Wicked Dreams'), you'll see a beautiful picture, but you won't appreciate how all the individual threads were woven together to create that specific image. The earlier books provide the context that makes the later books feel so richly detailed and emotionally interconnected.

Think of it like the Marvel Cinematic Universe but with books. You could watch 'Iron Man' then 'Thor', or you could jump to 'Guardians'. It works, but you miss the post-credit scenes. Hartmann's books have emotional post-credit scenes—little mentions, crossover characters, and shared trauma that build a community. Reading in order makes the world feel lived-in and massive. Start with 'Lotus'; it's the 'Iron Man' of this universe.

Book 1 Saints and Sinners
She was the light to my dark.
The saint to my sinner. with her innocent eyes and devilish curves.
A Madonna that was meant to be admired but never touched.
Until someone took that innocence from her.
She left.
The darkness in my heart was finally complete.
I avenged her, I killed for her, but she never came back.
Until I saw her again. An angel dancing around a pole for money.
She didn’t know I owned that club. She didn’t know I was watching.
This time I won’t let her escape.
I will make her back into the girl I knew.
Whether she likes it or not.
Book 2 Judge and Jury
I can’t stop watching her.
I’m not even sure I want to.
Taylor Lawson, blonde, beautiful, and totally oblivious to how much dangers she’s in.
She’s also the one juror in my upcoming murder trial that hasn’t been bought.
The one who can put me behind bars for a very long time.
I know I should execute her.
After all that’s what I do.
I am the Judge.
I eliminate threats to The Family.
And Taylor is a threat.
But I don’t want to kill her.
Possessing her, making her love me seems like a much better plan for this particular Juror.

The most important thing is to have the content warnings handy. Some of her books, especially the early ones, deal with extremely heavy subject matter. Reading in release order means you're hitting some of the most intense material right out of the gate.
Maybe pair your order research with a quick check of the CWs for each book. That way, you can mentally prepare or even rearrange if you see a cluster of topics you need to be in a specific headspace for. Your emotional well-being is more important than chronological purity. Order the books in a way that feels sustainable for you.
The beauty of modern reading is that you can sample. Download a preview of 'Still Beating' and 'Lotus'. Read the first chapter of each. Which one grabs you by the throat and doesn't let go? Start there. Your gut reaction is a better guide than any forum post.
If you're captivated by the intense, confined perspective of the first chapter of 'Still Beating', that's your book. If you're more intrigued by the rockstar vibe and single-dad dynamic in 'Lotus', start there. The previews are free. Let your own interest, not a rigid list, dictate your journey. You can always course-correct later. Starting with a book that immediately hooks you is the best way to ensure you actually finish the series.
For a practical, no-nonsense guide: series first, by publication. Then standalones in any order. That's how I did it, and I appreciated seeing her style develop. The standalones felt like a natural evolution, and I caught a few name-drops I would have missed otherwise.
I disagree with the 'any order' crowd for the interconnected ones. While each duet is standalone, there's a mild chronological flow in the shared world. Reading 'Savage Hearts' (a prequel) after the main 'Lovely' duet colors your re-read of the first book differently. For maximum dramatic irony and understanding of character motivations, a strict publication order across all her interconnected books is rewarding. But for casual enjoyment, duet order is fine.
Honestly, just pick up 'Still Beating'. The emotional carnage in that book is unparalleled. It’s not just about what happens to them physically during the captivity, but the devastating aftermath. How do you go back to a normal life after that? How do you look at the people you love? The book wrestles with those questions in a brutally honest way. The romance is born from shared trauma, which makes it beautifully painful to read.
If you love thrillers, skip the early ones for now. Dive into 'Then She Was Gone', then 'The Family Upstairs', 'Invisible Girl', 'The Night She Disappeared'. You can always circle back to the lighter stuff if you become a completist.
Honestly, just google 'Sandra Brown series list'. Wikipedia or her fan wiki breaks it down clearly by series name. That's your order right there. Read the lists under 'Texas! Saga', 'Cole Series', etc.
Why make it more complicated than it needs to be? The internet has already done the organizational work for us.
