In 'The Prince First Love,' the prince starts off as a rather sheltered and duty-bound heir who sees the world in black and white. His relationship with the commoner girl forces him to confront his own privilege and prejudices, slowly breaking down those walls. It's a gradual, sometimes painful process of learning empathy. That theme of a royal learning to question their own station is handled with surprising nuance in 'Prince charming's complicated love story,' where the protagonist's development isn't just about love but dismantling the very system he was born to lead, which makes his choices feel weightier.
Don't @ me, but the best development happens in the side stories. The main plot wraps up with him being a decent guy in love. But in the bonus episodes, we see him as a father, struggling with the same cycles of duty and affection his own father failed at. That's where his lifelong journey truly lands.
He's a fixer-upper fantasy. Readers get to project onto the blank, cold slate and then feel the satisfaction of watching him become 'their' ideal caring partner through the influence of the heroine. The development is wish-fulfillment, and there's nothing wrong with that! It's a core appeal of the 'cold male lead' genre.
His development is purposely fragmented across different media. The webtoon shows the actions, the novel gives the internal thoughts, and the audio drama delivers the emotional tone through voice acting. To get the full picture, you almost have to experience it all. It's a multiplatform character arc!

In 'The Prince', the character with the most development is undoubtedly the protagonist, who starts as a naive and idealistic young man but evolves into a shrewd and pragmatic leader. His journey is marked by a series of moral dilemmas and political intrigues that force him to question his values and adapt to the harsh realities of power. The transformation is gradual but profound, as he learns to balance idealism with practicality, ultimately becoming a master of statecraft.
Another character who undergoes significant development is the protagonist's mentor, who begins as a cynical and disillusioned advisor but gradually rediscovers his faith in the potential for good governance. His evolution is less about changing his core beliefs and more about finding a way to reconcile them with the demands of political life. The mentor's growth is subtle but impactful, as he becomes a guiding force for the protagonist, helping him navigate the treacherous waters of power.
Lastly, the antagonist, who starts as a ruthless and power-hungry rival, also experiences a degree of development. While he remains largely unchanged in his pursuit of power, there are moments of vulnerability and self-doubt that hint at a more complex inner life. These moments, though fleeting, add depth to his character and make him a more compelling foil for the protagonist.
