I have a soft spot for the middle of the series, around books like 'The Hard Way' and 'Bad Luck and Trouble'. That’s when Child had the formula down cold and was experimenting just enough within it. So if someone asked me how to enjoy the series, I’d say maybe start with 'Bad Luck and Trouble'. It brings back his old military unit and has a great mix of mystery and action.
It gives you a broader sense of Reacher’s history without needing the very first books. From there, if you love the team dynamic, you can seek out other books with Neagley. If you prefer the lone-wolf stuff, you can jump to the more isolated stories.
