Six weeks? That's not so bad. My hold for the popular new fantasy novel is 24 weeks. Library demand is real. Use the wait time to catch up on other great graphic memoirs. 'Smile,' 'El Deafo,' 'New Kid'—all fantastic while you wait.
The sequel aspect is important. If you haven't read 'Real Friends,' start there. The emotional journey of Shannon in the first book makes 'Best Friend' hit harder. Most libraries will have both in their system. Read them in order for the full impact.

“You have no idea what you’ve done to me. I’ve been replaying every sound you made, every way you came apart for me.” His grip tightened. “I’m not letting that go. I’m not letting you go. Fuck the friendship. I want you.”
I let out a little gasp. His thumb rubbed across my lower lip.
“I don’t just want to fuck you—I want to keep you. You’re my favorite sin, and I’ll commit it again and again until you understand you’re mine.” His lips twitched a little. “You’ve always been mine, Savannah.”

From Best Friends To Secret Lovers!!
Rory and Todd have been best friends for thirteen years. They thought they knew every secret between them but a playful dare unlocked a lifetime of hidden feelings.
It strips away the pretense and leaves only a burning, undeniable truth: They’re in love.
But now they have to battle the outside world that is desperate to keep them as ‘best friends’
That night I found out my Beta husband banged my bestie, who is 10 years younger than him, I also slept with someone 10 years younger than me in a bar. When they decided to kick me out of the pack, my ONS showed up unexpectedly and stopped them. He turned out to be my bestie's brother Chris, the supposed Alpha heir of the pack.
I thought what between us was just an embarrassing one night thing, but he wouldn‘t let me go again, and claimed that he had a crush on me since years ago…
"I want you to take my virginity," I tell my best friend.
He chokes on his drink. His eyes go wide, blinking at me like he misheard me.
"Dawn."
"Not now, obviously. Just promise me you won't let me turn twenty still a virgin," I say, biting my lower lip. He stares at me like I just sprouted two horns.
His eyes move slowly across my face. His lips part. He says nothing.
"Dawn," he whispers like a plea.
For so long, I have loved him. I wanted all my firsts to be his.
Instead, I end up in his brother's bed.
Killian. I should stay away from him. I shouldn't want him. Not only is he cocky, arrogant — he's the bane of my existence.
Yet when he touches me, it feels like I'm the most precious thing in his life.
Lots of people are asking so here it is:

He shouldn’t have imagined her lying naked on his bed. She shouldn’t have imagined his devilishly handsome face between her legs.
But it was too late.
Kiara began noticing Ethan's washboard abs when he hopped out of the pool, dripping wet after swim practice. Ethan began gazing at Kiara’s golden skin in a bikini as a grown woman instead of the girl next door he grew up with.
That kiss should have never happened.
It was just one moment in a lifetime of moments, but they both felt its power. They knew the thrumming in their veins and desperation in their bodies might give them all they ever wanted or ruin everything if they followed it.
Kiara and Ethan knew they should have never kissed. But it's too late to take that choice back, so they have a new one to make.
Fall for each other and risk their friendship or try to forget one little kiss that might change everything.
PREVIEW:
“If you don’t want to kiss me then... let’s swim.”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Naked.”
“What?”
“I always wanted to try skinny dipping. And I really want to get out of these clothes.”
“What if someone catches you... me, both?”
“We will be in the pool, Ethan. And no one can see us from the living room.” I smirked when I said, “Unless you want to watch me while I swim, you can stay here.”
His eyes darkened, and he looked away, probably thinking the same when I noticed red blush creeping up his neck and making his ears and cheeks flush. Cute.
“Come on, Ethan. Don’t be a chicken...”
“Fine.”
His voice was rough when he said, “Remove that sweater first.”
I read it on my phone during my commute. Not ideal for the art, but the story still shone through. Used the Libby app. The guided view (where it moves from panel to panel) is actually really helpful on a small screen.
If you're a commuter or just read in short bursts, the library app on your phone is a fantastic option. You can adjust the settings to tap to advance panel-by-panel, which makes it super manageable even in a crowded space.
Confirmed. I just pulled up my Kindle library to double-check, and my copy of 'Best Friends' is right there. I bought it the day it came out. The file size is pretty big for an ebook because of the images—around 150 MB. So make sure you have enough space on your device.
Also, a pro-tip for Kindle users: download it over Wi-Fi, not cellular data, unless you have an unlimited plan. The download was quick, and the quality was perfect. No missing pages or garbled text, which I've occasionally seen with other graphic novel ebooks. This one seems to have been produced with care. So, no worries on that front. It's a perfectly viable way to read the book.
As a comics nerd, I appreciate the visual storytelling consistency. Background details, like family photos and bedroom layouts, evolve across the books. You'll spot a drawing from 'Smile' framed on the wall in a later book. Those Easter eggs are rewarding for series readers. Publication order lets you notice those details as fun callbacks, whereas timeline order might make them confusing foreshadowing. Read it as the artist intended.
Okay, practical answer: 1) 'Real Friends' (2017), 2) 'Best Friends' (2019). That's it. That's the order. They're numbered in some editions, and the narrative is a direct continuation. Don't overthink it—just grab 'Real Friends' first. The library usually has both. If you start with 'Best Friends', you'll be missing a ton of context about her early friendships and family life that gets referenced. It's not incomprehensible, but you'll rob yourself of the full experience.
