It's interesting to think of it as a duology. So many series are trilogies or longer, but this core story is really two books. 'Candyfloss' is more of a companion novel, expanding the world of the school. After finishing the intense duology, 'Candyfloss' can be a nice palate cleanser—a story about a different kind of struggle (parental separation, economic insecurity) but with a sweeter, more hopeful core. It's still Wilson, so it's not saccharine, but it feels less personally brutal than the Daisy/Chloe saga.
Think of it like a movie and its sequel. You can watch 'The Empire Strikes Back' without 'A New Hope,' but why would you? You miss the foundation of the relationships, the baseline normal. 'Sleepovers' is the baseline normal for Daisy and Chloe. 'Best Friends' is the empire striking back at their friendship. The emotional resonance is magnified a hundredfold by knowing what was lost.
Really depends on whether you're after a chronological read or publication order, since 'Best Friends' spins out of that whole 'Sleepovers' universe. Chronologically, the twins and their friendship group start in 'Sleepovers,' then you get 'Best Friends' which follows the fallout of that infamous birthday party drama. After that, 'Candyfloss' sort of runs alongside, focusing on a different character but in the same setting. Publication order is different though—'Best Friends' came out before 'Candyfloss,' so you get Wilson's evolving take on the group that way. Honestly, either works, but going chronologically makes the emotional beats between the girls hit harder.
If you're a completist, you could even slot in 'The Worry Website' for extra context on the school dynamics.
Wait, does 'Best Friends' the graphic novel adapt the entire original novel? Or is it abridged? I think it's a full adaptation, just visually told. So if someone struggles with dense text, the graphic novel is a perfect gateway. In that case, you could even experience the story first through the graphic novel of 'Best Friends,' then read the prose novel of 'Sleepovers.' The medium switch wouldn't be too jarring because the art style is so consistent with the original book illustrations.

Fall for each other and risk their friendship or try to forget one little kiss that might change everything.
PREVIEW:
“If you don’t want to kiss me then... let’s swim.”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Naked.”
“What?”
“I always wanted to try skinny dipping. And I really want to get out of these clothes.”
“What if someone catches you... me, both?”
“We will be in the pool, Ethan. And no one can see us from the living room.” I smirked when I said, “Unless you want to watch me while I swim, you can stay here.”
His eyes darkened, and he looked away, probably thinking the same when I noticed red blush creeping up his neck and making his ears and cheeks flush. Cute.
“Come on, Ethan. Don’t be a chicken...”
“Fine.”
His voice was rough when he said, “Remove that sweater first.”
