Alright, so I see this asked a lot and the answer can be a bit of a rabbit hole. The core sequence everyone agrees on is starting with 'I Shall Seal the Heavens'. That's the gateway drug for most of us. It establishes the fundamental mechanics and the sheer, glorious absurdity of the genre in a way that's just incredibly fun.
After that, things branch. 'A Will Eternal' comes next chronologically in the shared universe, following a side character from ISSTH, and it's a hilarious change of pace with a cowardly protagonist. Then you have 'A World Worth Protecting', which is more of a distant spiritual successor with modern/sci-fi twists. Some folks swear by reading them in publication order to catch the author's evolving style, but honestly, jumping from ISSTH to 'A Will Eternal' feels the most natural because of the direct character link.

I actually went a different route and don't regret it. I started with 'A Will Eternal' because a friend described the main character's antics and it hooked me. It's a more comedic, paranoid take on cultivation, and because it's largely a standalone story set later in the timeline, I wasn't lost at all.
Going back to 'I Shall Seal the Heavens' afterwards was like discovering the epic, serious-ish origin story for this whole weird world. It gave me a new appreciation for the lore and the cameos. So if someone's intimidated by the epic length of ISSTH, starting with the lighter 'A Will Eternal' is a perfectly valid backdoor entry. The reading order can be more flexible than the purists insist.

The strict in-universe chronological order is 'I Shall Seal the Heavens', then 'A Will Eternal', then 'A World Worth Protecting'. ISSTH is the foundation. Everything else feels like a spinoff playing in the sandbox it built, even 'A World Worth Protecting' with its futuristic setting. Just read ISSTH first.
