The reading order seems straightforward: 'Spirit Walker' first, then the sequel 'Spirit Guardian'. There's a little side-story novella floating around, but it's not mandatory. I've noticed some chatter in fan groups about whether a certain lore-heavy chapter in 'Guardian' references events from the novella, but it's more like bonus material for superfans. I think the main two-book arc so far works perfectly fine on its own. The sequel resolves the immediate threats but opens up a bigger conflict, which feels like a natural progression.

Oh, right, I was confused by this too for ages. It's the first book in a planned series called 'The Chronicles of Chaos' by the author, Felicity Darkwater. There's definitely a sequel already out called 'Spirit Guardian' that follows right on from the cliffhanger with Kael and the shattered amulet.

A heads-up though, I've seen some reading order confusion online because there's also a prequel novella, 'Whisper of the First Walker', that came out after the first book. It's not essential, but it adds some cool depth to the lore about the ancient spirit pacts. I'd recommend reading the main novel first, then the novella if you're hooked, and then straight into 'Spirit Guardian'. The third full novel hasn't been announced yet, but the author's blog suggests she's deep in the drafting phase.

It does! 'Spirit Guardian' continues the story. I wasn't as blown away by it as the first book—felt like a bit of a middle-book setup—but it's still solid if you loved the characters. Ends on another killer cliffhanger, so maybe wait until the third is out if you hate that.

Absolutely. 'Spirit Guardian' is the sequel. After that cliffhanger ending with the portal, you kinda need it. I'm waiting for the third one now.

Yeah, it has a direct sequel, 'Spirit Guardian'. I binged them back-to-back last month. Honestly, I think you need to read them in order; the magic system gets way more complex and the political stuff from the first book really kicks off in the second. The character arcs, especially for Elara, make no sense if you jump ahead. I remember trying to skim the first one because I was impatient and got totally lost on who was betraying who and why. Start with 'Spirit Walker', no question.

Are there any sequels to Spiritwalker: Messages from the Future?

3 Answers2025-12-30 20:54:09
I wish there were more books in the 'Spiritwalker' series! The original novel, 'Spiritwalker: Messages from the Future,' left such a deep impression on me with its blend of speculative fiction and emotional depth. The way it explored themes of time, legacy, and human connection made me crave more. Unfortunately, as far as I know, the author hasn't released any direct sequels. But that hasn't stopped me from diving into similar works—books like 'The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August' or 'The Time Traveler’s Wife' scratch that same itch for me. Maybe one day we'll get a continuation, but until then, fan theories and discussions keep the spirit of 'Spiritwalker' alive. I've spent hours on forums dissecting possible loose ends that could lead to a sequel. The open-ended nature of the story almost feels intentional, like an invitation to imagine where the characters might go next.

How many books are in the spirit walker series?

Man, I've been through this series a couple times and I've always seen it listed as a trilogy. 'Cold Magic', 'Cold Fire', and 'Cold Steel' are the three main novels that complete Cat Barahal's core journey from an unwanted marriage to a world-changing revolutionary. There's also the short story collection 'Cold Magic: The Spiritwalker Trilogy,' but that's more of a bind-up or a companion piece. I'd say it's firmly three books. Sometimes you'll see 'Cold Steel' split into two volumes in some international editions, which can cause confusion, but for the primary English-language releases, three is the number. It's a complete arc, and honestly, Elliott wrapped it up well—I'm glad she didn't stretch it out.

What is the main plot of Spirit Walker novel?

Alright, so I just finished rereading 'Spirit Walker' again because I can't get enough of the world-building. The main plot follows Kaidan, this guy in a medieval-fantasy kingdom who's born without the usual magical 'Essence' everyone else has. Instead, he can see and communicate with spirits, which is considered either useless or heretical. The central conflict kicks off when the kingdom's spirit wards, which keep out monstrous spectral entities, start failing. The ruling mage class has no idea how to fix them because they've ignored spirit lore for centuries. Kaidan gets dragged into the whole mess, trying to convince people his 'talent' is actually the key to survival while dealing with political machinations and the very real threat of the kingdom being overrun. It's less a traditional hero's journey and more a desperate scramble for credibility and a race against time. I love how the magic system's limitations directly drive the plot—Kaidan can talk to spirits, but he can't command them or use flashy combat spells, so he has to negotiate, bargain, and outsmart his problems. The ending of the first book sets up a really interesting dilemma. He manages to temporarily reinforce the wards, but it's a patch job. The real solution seems to involve a pilgrimage to some ancient ruins mentioned in spirit lore, which of course the established powers don't want him to undertake. Makes you instantly want to pick up the next book.
