Who Does Tohru End Up With

For fans like me who with great attention follow "Their Family, "the issue of whether Tohru Honda ends up with Rabbits sense indeed gets chewed over. Fruits Basket is more than just a simple high school romance story on the surface. When you look deep inside, it's a narrative which is very sensitive and expertly handles such topics of acceptance, self-esteem, and emotional growth. There certainly is a close-knit relationship there between Tohru and the boys’family. As to your question--and it sounds so plain, even leaving a sour taste in my throat, but Tohru ends up with Kyo Sohma. That’s right--Kyo, the coarse and seemingly aloof member of the Sohma family. How beautifully drawn by author Natsuki Takaya was this picture of their coming from virtually total strangers to acknowledge one another's hearts. Yes, there were moments when we were led to hope for sparks between Tohru and Yuki but ultimately she gravitated towards Kyo. Kyo's personality, at first rough-edged, mellows under Tohru's influence, and when he comes to terms with his true form learns to accept himself, there is Tohru by his side supporting him and loving him unconditionally. Then this subtlety, this underlying thread of tenderness, suddenly breaks through to become true love. The steps leading up to this relationship--slowly, imperceptibly, and never unnecessarily exaggerated--are one of the many ways in which Fruits Basket far surpasses the average high school drama. This realization does not occur while you are reading the novel itself, but later on it gradually dawns upon you, as you consider the characters, their give and take with each other which brings them to maturity with greater depth than just about any other relationship in this book. So the person still hesitating back there as to who Tohru winds up with, please keep this in mind: it's Kyo Sohma--a love undersupplied but deeply rooted, unselfish, true!
