Ever since I stumbled onto those dramatic 'My Story Animated' shorts on YouTube, I’ve been hooked—both as a viewer and a secret daydreamer of voicing one of those over-the-top characters. The idea of lending your voice to their melodramatic high school villains or swoon-worthy love interests is super tempting, right? But here’s the scoop: while 'My Story Animated' doesn’t openly advertise casting calls like big studios do, there are ways to wiggle into their projects if you’re persistent. I’ve seen indie voice actors land gigs by networking with animators on platforms like Twitter or Discord, where smaller creators often scout for talent.
That said, don’t expect a formal audition process. Most of these animations are pieced together by tight-knit teams or even solo creators, so your best bet is to build a demo reel showcasing dramatic, emotive range (think: exaggerated gasps, tearful confessions). Drop it in creative communities like Casting Call Club or even Reddit’s voice-acting forums. And hey, if you’re just starting out, try fan dubs—it’s how I got comfortable before landing my first paid gig. The thrill of hearing your voice synced to those soapy animations? Totally worth the hustle.

In a music competition show, my rival unexpectedly played the melody I had in my mind before I could.
Shocked, I confronted her, asking why she plagiarized me. However, she turned the accusation against me and said, "You said I stole your work, but do you have any proof?"
However, I was unable to provide any concrete evidence. Thus, I was labeled as a bully and a plagiarist, ultimately meeting a tragic end. Even in my final moments, I couldn't figure out how she managed to steal something from my mind.
When I opened my eyes again, I found myself back on that same stage.
Seeing that my rival was about to play her part, I stopped her and said, "This time, it's my turn to go first."

Being a mute used to be simple before all the craziness started. I just can't talk and that's who I am. Mum has learned to accept that and I guess so have I. Everything was just fine in my high school in Shanghai.
I had finally made it to year twelve and even though I was in China, I was actually being treated as a human being despite my disability. Things were definitely not perfect but I would give anything to go back to that, like it was before. I heard my first voice that year, right at the beginning of year 12. I didn’t really have any real friends, but I was used to it and before the voices started, I was fine with that. But it all changed when I first heard them.
The voices inside their heads started then and my life was never the same. They weren't just thinking about school or they girls or guys they were into, no they were thinking about doing things, doing horrible things to each other and I was the only one that knew how messed up they really were.

"What if....you were the one inside this novel?" In a chain story, the novel started with a girl named Leah, a beautiful girl with spoiled love from her brother [Lewis] he, who protect her from dangers, and her friends [Nami, Gu, Georgia and Ole] they, who helped her from her woes and problems. Now, however, she found something new. A novel that will change her life forever. If that's the case, then what will Leah do if she found herself in a novel where the novel chained her? "What if...." in a story, where you are just a side character running around with the main characters. Just "what if..."

My Story Animated is this wild, creative hub for short animated stories, and honestly, the 'main characters' shift depending on which story you dive into—it's like a buffet of vibes! Some recurring themes pop up, though. You’ve got the classic underdog kid facing school drama, the supernatural teens with secret powers, and even slice-of-life characters navigating friendships or crushes. My personal favorite was this one about a girl who could literally freeze time when she got anxious—relatable much?
The animation styles vary too, from 3D to 2D, so even the 'feel' of the characters changes. There’s no single protagonist, but the channel’s charm lies in how each story carves out its own little universe. If you binge enough, you’ll notice tropes like the sarcastic best friend or the overbearing parent, but they’re spun in fresh ways every time. It’s like comfort food, but for your eyeballs.
Creating characters for animations like 'My Story Animated' is such a fun process! First, I start by brainstorming their personalities—are they quirky, shy, or bold? Then, I sketch rough designs, playing with proportions (big eyes for cuteness or sharp angles for drama). Clothing and colors matter too; a rebellious character might wear leather jackets, while a sweet one could have pastel dresses. I love using apps like Procreate or Adobe Illustrator to refine them.
For backstories, I imagine their struggles and dreams. Maybe they’re a detective solving magical crimes or a baker hiding superhero secrets. Voice and movement ideas come next—how would they walk or laugh? Watching animated shorts for inspiration helps tons. My favorite part is testing expressions; a raised eyebrow can say so much!
