Emily’s POV

My body moved on its own, hips swaying harder than I ever had before, arms raised like I could push the pain out through my fingertips. The bass thumped inside my chest, matching the angry beat of my pulse.

Sweat clung to my skin. The black dress rode up my thighs with every sharp turn, but I didn’t care.

“Emily, slow down!” Kara shouted over the music, grabbing my wrist. Her curls were sticking to her forehead, eyes wide with worry. “You’re going to fall if you keep spinning like that.”

I laughed, but it sounded wild even to my own ears. “I’m fine! This feels good.”

It didn’t feel good. It felt like fire in my veins and ice in my stomach at the same time. Every time the lights flashed across my face, I saw him again, Lucas’s hands on her waist, their mouths locked together like they couldn’t breathe without each other.

The image wouldn’t leave me alone.

I pulled away from Kara and danced harder, throwing my head back, letting my hair whip around. The alcohol made everything blurry and bright.

My fourth or was it fifth? drink still burned sweetly at the back of my throat.

Kara tried again, pressing close so I could hear her. “Come on, let’s sit for a minute. You’re scaring me.”

“I don’t want to sit,” I snapped, spinning away from her. “I want to forget him.”

My eyes swept across the club, searching for something, anything to drown out the memories. That’s when I noticed the raised VIP section on the far side.

A group of guys dominated the area, tall and loud, laughing like they owned the night. Hockey jackets hung over the back of their booth. One guy in particular stood out.

He leaned against the railing, watching the crowd with a lazy confidence that screamed trouble. Tall, broad shoulders that stretched his dark shirt tight across his chest.

Sharp jawline, messy dark hair, and gray eyes that somehow caught the light even in the darkness.

Alex Hale, my brother Julian’s best friend since freshman year. The hockey captain everyone whispered about. The campus playboy who never slept with the same girl twice.

I’d seen him around before at Julian’s parties, in the background of family dinners but I’d never really looked at him.

Before I could stop myself, I started moving toward the bar area near the VIP section. My legs felt loose, like they belonged to someone else.

The room tilted slightly, but I kept going, weaving between bodies, my heart pounding louder than the music.

“Emily!” Kara’s voice cut through the noise behind me. She caught up and grabbed my arm. “Where are you going?”

I didn’t answer. My eyes stayed locked on Alex. He was talking to one of his teammates, but something made him glance down toward the dance floor. Toward me.

I didn’t even think. I just opened my mouth and let them spill out loud enough for the people nearby to hear.

“I want you to touch me… right now.” My voice carried over the music, raw and trembling with anger. “I’ll show that scumbag ex I’m good at sex too.”

For a second, everything around me seemed to freeze.

Kara’s grip on my arm tightened painfully. “Emily, no!” she hissed, horrified. She tried to yank me backward. “That’s Alex! Your brother’s best friend! Are you out of your mind?”

I barely heard her. My eyes were fixed on him.

Alex turned fully toward me. Those stormy gray eyes locked onto mine with sharp surprise, then darkened with something hotter.

He straightened up to his full height, towering over everyone around him, and the corner of his mouth twitched like he couldn’t decide whether to smirk or frown.

The club spun faster. I felt dizzy, bold, and completely terrified all at once. This wasn’t me. The quiet girl who spent hours alone with her paintbrushes. The girl who had loved Lucas with her whole heart. But that girl had been shattered in a café this afternoon, and right now I didn’t care who picked up the pieces.

Kara pulled harder, panic clear in her voice. “Em, please. This is a terrible idea. Julian will kill both of you. Let’s go home. Right now.

I shook my head, eyes still on Alex. The alcohol gave me courage I never knew I had.

Revenge, pain, and a reckless need to feel wanted burned through me like wildfire. I wanted to hurt Lucas back. I wanted to prove I wasn’t the boring, forgettable girlfriend he’d thrown away.

Alex stepped down from the VIP area, moving through the crowd like it parted for him. His gaze never left my face.

He stopped right in front of me, close enough that I could smell his cologne mixed with the faint scent of ice and sweat from practice. His gray eyes searched mine, reading every messy emotion I couldn’t hide.

Kara kept tugging my arm. “Alex, don’t! She’s drunk. She doesn’t know what she’s saying.”

But I did know. In that moment, I meant every word.

He took one step closer, his voice low and rough, cutting through the pounding music like it was meant only for me.

“Careful what you wish for, little painter girl.”

  • Accidentally Yours, Hockey Captain   Chapter 95: Questions and Doubts

Emily’s POV As we stepped back inside the arena, the bright overhead lights made everything feel clearer and more alive. The hum of activity was all around us—players stretching, coaches calling out instructions, and the sound of hockey sticks tapping against the floor. Not far away, Alex was just finishing wiping the sweat from his face with a towel, while Karen still sat comfortably on the bench beside him. The moment they noticed us approaching, both of them turned their heads in our direction. Alex stood up immediately, his whole posture changing the second he saw me. There was a warmth in his eyes that felt like home, and it instantly helped calm some of the restlessness I had carried with me all morning. Karen, on the other hand, simply offered a polite, slightly distant smile—friendly enough, but lacking the same genuine warmth. “How come you two came in together?” Karen asked, her tone light but curious, her eyes moving from Kael to me and then back again. “Emily was

  • Accidentally Yours, Hockey Captain   Chapter 94 - Uncertain Thoughts and New Invitations

Emily’s POV By the time the morning sunlight spilled brightly through the windows, Alex had already left for his practice session. The apartment felt quiet and still without him, but inside my mind, everything was far from calm. I sat motionless in front of my canvas, brush in hand but completely unable to bring myself to make even a single stroke. All I could think about was what I had discovered late last night—the empty condom, the realization that I hadn’t taken my birth control pills for nearly a whole month, and the heavy, unsettling feeling of uncertainty that had settled deep in my chest. Could I really be making the same mistake again? I asked myself silently, my heart beating a little faster just thinking about it. The last time I had faced this kind of situation, everything had gone wrong, and it had brought so much pain, confusion, and heartbreak into my life. But then again, things were completely different now. This time, I was with Alex by choice, and we were

  • Accidentally Yours, Hockey Captain   Chapter 93: The Night That Left Me Worried

Emily’s POV“Aahhhh… it’s too much, Alex…” I gasped, my voice trembling as pleasure washed over me in waves. The room was dim, lit only by the soft silver glow of moonlight filtering through the curtains, casting long, gentle shadows across the bed. Every breath we took felt heavy and warm, mixing together in the quiet air. Alex pushed deeper, his body moving against mine in a steady, powerful rhythm that made my head spin and every nerve in my body come alive. His hands gripped my hips firmly, pulling me closer until there was barely any space left between us, each thrust driving me higher into a bliss I could never get enough of.“Fuck, Em… you feel so good,” he groaned, his voice low and rough with desire. “So warm and tight around me… I swear I’ll never get enough of this.”My nails dug lightly into the strong muscles of his back, my body arching upward to meet his movements. “Alex… harder… please… don’t hold back,” I begged, my voice thick with need.He obliged instantly, his

  • Accidentally Yours, Hockey Captain   Chapter 92 - Uninvited guests

Emily’s POVThe soft afternoon light filtered through the large windows of my studio, casting warm golden streaks across the canvas I was working on. The room was quiet except for the gentle scratch of my brush moving over the surface and the faint hum of the air conditioner. I had been completely lost in my work, letting every thought and feeling flow freely into the colors and shapes before me. It was the only place where my mind could truly settle, where everything else seemed to fade into the background. That peace was interrupted when my phone suddenly buzzed loudly on the small table beside me. I set down my brush carefully, wiped my fingers clean on a cloth, and reached for it. When I saw the name on the screen, a small smile touched my lips—it had been far too long since we had properly spoken.“Hey,” I answered warmly.“Hi, Em. Are you busy right now?” Kara’s voice came through, sounding bright but carrying a slight edge of seriousness.“Um, not really,” I replied, glanc

  • Accidentally Yours, Hockey Captain   Chapter 91 - Unnecessary talk

Emily’s POVWill and I settled into a quiet corner of the small café located right next to the gallery. The atmosphere was calm, with soft music playing in the background and the faint clinking of cups and saucers around us, but I couldn’t relax. There was something about this meeting that felt off from the very start—too sudden, too convenient, and far too familiar. He kept his eyes fixed steadily on me, his expression unreadable as he slowly stirred his coffee, the spoon making soft, repetitive sounds against the ceramic cup. Every now and then he would glance away, only to look back again, as if he were studying some kind of puzzle he hadn’t quite figured out yet.I shifted uncomfortably in my seat, my patience already beginning to wear thin. There were more important things I could be doing—preparing for new paintings, organizing my thoughts, or simply enjoying the peaceful morning. Instead, here I was, sitting across from someone who was connected to the past I was trying so

  • Accidentally Yours, Hockey Captain   Chapter 90 - Unexpected person

Emily’s POV When I woke up that morning, sunlight was streaming softly through the curtains, and for the first time in what felt like forever, I didn’t feel that familiar tight knot of worry in my chest. It really did feel like a heavy weight had been lifted off my shoulders. The space beside me was empty—Alex must have gotten up a little earlier—but the sheets still held his warmth, and the whole room felt calm and bright. I sat up slowly, stretching my arms above my head, and spotted Alex’s soft gray shirt draped over the foot of the bed. I pulled it on immediately; it was too big for me, falling to mid‑thigh, and it smelled like him—clean, warm, and familiar. Wrapped in that scent, everything felt perfect, like nothing could go wrong today. I wandered out of the bedroom and toward the kitchen, where I could hear soft music playing and the quiet sizzle of something cooking. Alex was standing at the stove, his back to me, flipping strips of bacon and carefully folding an omel

Emily’s POVMy legs felt loose and heavy at the same time as I stumbled back toward the bar. The music pulsed louder in my ears, each beat slamming against my skull.
