Mag-log inSilja POV
Mrs. Sinnett and Trina Mayer are by far two of the most difficult clients I have had in a while. By the time we were done, and I started showing proofs to them on the computer, they finally settled down.
“You were right about the second landscape for the dress. It lends beautifully to the Luna Ceremony theme.” Trina said.
“Thank you, Ms. Mayer. I’m so pleased you liked the idea and results. Would you like me to include any specific pictures from this set with the initial set?”
“Yes. I would like the first three from the second set.”
“Excellent choice, I agree with you.” I said.
After we finalized the details and she paid the first half of the payment, I told her I would have it delivered the day before her Luna Ceremony after the second half of the payment is received. She signed the agreement and left with Mrs. Sinnett, and I smiled at another satisfied customer.
A short while later my boss, Ebba, came in. She is a short lady with bob haircut. Her hair is white, but she doesn’t look a day over forty, even though she is almost sixty. She is wearing a bohemian skirt and top, with a chain belt around her waist and brown strappy sandals. She always looks so relaxed. I wish I could be that relaxed.
“Silja, my dahlin’. How did your first client go?” She asked me.
“Oh, it went great, Ebba! I even got her to buy photos from an impromptu second set.” I said, excitedly.
“Oh, that’s wonderful. Good job!” She said. “Tomorrow, we have a family portrait for a family of fours. It’s the Harrington’s. Usually, the kids are distracted and don’t focus long to take the picture. The kids are little sweet morsels of cuteness; however, their parents are a bit serious. So, use caution when dealing with them. If you can win the kids over, you will win the parents over.”
“Kids rule, parents drool. Got it.” I said with a chuckle.
Ebba chuckled as well. “Now, what do you have planned for the weekend?”
“Me? Oh, I was hoping to go home for the weekend and see my parents. I was planning to leave Friday night and be back by Sunday evening.” I said.
“Well, that is wonderful. Family is important. You know my son is recently single. If you would like me to introduce you to him, I would be glad to. I think you are a good girl and you two would hit it off.” She said.
I groan internally. I do not need to think about men right now. I especially don’t want to think about the boss’ son. “Ebba, I’m just not interested in dating right now. I want to grow my portfolio right now. When I’m ready, I will let you know.” I said.
She sighed, “Silja, take it from an old lady that waited a long time in life. When you find love, hold on tight and don’t let it go. Careers come and go. But it won’t be beside you when you breathe your last breath, but those who love you will be.”
I smile gently at her and hold her hands. “I understand. I promise if that day ever comes, I will be ready and receptive.”
After cleaning up and putting everything away, I called Romy and told her to meet me at my place for my proper breakdown. All day long, in the back of my mind, I was thinking about how I have been marked and mated by my own mate and I don’t even know who it is. All I have is a first name. It’s so common that it would be like searching for a needle in a haystack and that haystack is in a dark cave.
Romy comes over and she has pizza and ice cream. “I come bearing gifts as my apology for letting you get hooked up with Mr. Hottie with a body.”
I laughed. “Really, it’s okay. It was my own fault. I shouldn’t have started drinking with you. But there is something serious that happened.”
“Okay, let’s discuss over extra cheese and pepperoni.” She said.
I just looked at her and pulled my collar down.
“WHAT?!”
“Yeah. Pau said that guy is actually my mate. I don’t know who he is. Only that his name is David and he is rich. Not that it matters.”
“Not that it matters?! He is your mate! How did you not know this when you woke up?!”
Then we both said it at the same time, “Aconitum.”
I sighed, “Yeah. I’m not touching that stuff ever again. I lost my virginity to my mate, and it wasn’t even special. I don’t even remember it.”
“Or maybe he wasn’t memorable and that’s why you don’t remember it.” She said, trying to make him the problem and not me.
I laughed out loud. “That has to be it. He was so terrible in bed that I couldn’t remember anything special that he did. He must not know how to work it.”
Romy and I joked the entire night, but towards the end I settled down and became serious. “You know I wanted to save myself for my mate. It appears I did that. But I’m also not ready to settle down. I’m just starting to build my portfolio.”
“Yeah, but you are marked now, Silja. You know the Moon Goddess is going to make you cross paths again.”
“Perhaps it won’t be any time soon though. Maybe it will be prolonged.”
“You know better.” Romy said. “What do we learn in school about mates, huh? We learn that we appear in each other’s life when we are needed. Whoever Mr. Right was, he is going to need you, and you are going to need him. My guess is you will need him more than he will need you.”
“Is that right?” I said crossing my arms.
“Yeah, that’s right.” She said seriously and I know she is not kidding. “No offense, Silja, but you are way too innocent. The kind of innocent that people trick and scheme against. You may be independent, spirited and bright, but there is always someone around the corner that will try to snuff it out. David is rich. Remember he was sporting that black card and you woke up in a five-star penthouse. He is the kind of guy that wrestles with barracudas every day.”
“I guess we will have to see. I’m sure it’s not one sided though. I may need him, but I’m sure he is probably going to need me too.”
Silja POVI walked out of the emergency room and into the waiting room. Romy, Erik, and Nolan all stand up and look at me expectantly. But I’m numb. How did this happen? Trina wasn’t at the restaurant. She wasn’t close to Gerard and didn’t have contact with him inside the courthouse. Now, the memories Ged and I have made in almost a year’s time have her replacing me in his memory. Our first time in my apartment, the way he would cook for me, seeing Lennox via the ultrasound, the Luna Ceremony, our one-night stand, everything is being replaced with Trina. How? That’s what I don’t understand. I get that it’s a dark magic potion, but how did she get to him?“Silja?” Nolan called gently, bringing me back to reality.I looked at Romy, and her eyes were full of tears. She can sense I’m numb and in pain at the same time. I lose my battle with tears, and Romy hugs me.“Silja, whatever it is, it will be okay. I promise. What’s wrong with Gerard?” she asked.I looked up, fat, ugly, tears slidin
Silja POV“Ged!” I screamed. The guards help him inside the truck, and his skin is cold. He is not responsive.“Get us to the hospital, NOW!” I ordered.“Yes, Luna.”We took off, and I’m holding Ged’s head in my lap. Romy is looking at us, and she is quiet, but I know she is nervous.“Call Erik. Tell him what happened to Gerard, and we are on our way to the hospital,” I said.Romy snaps out of it and grabs her phone.“Erik,” she says with her voice shaking, “We are on our way to the hospital. We won the case and went to eat. Then, when we were getting into the SUV, Gerard passed out. He isn’t responsive, and he looks pale. Silja ordered the guard to take us to the hospital.”There was a pause, and then she said, “Yes. That’s where we are going.”Another pause as Erik said something else to her, and she responded. “Okay.”They hang up, and she looks at me. “Erik is coming to the hospital. Nolan is going to stay behind an extra day before going to Jaul. Nolan will call him to explain eve
Gerard POVI walked with Silja towards the bathroom. On the way, we were discussing where we would go for lunch.“I could really go for some Hibachi!” she said excitedly.“You and your Asian food,” I chuckled.Romy and Silja both looked at me like I wasn’t seeing the obvious. “Sils could eat her weight in Asian food, Mr. Sinnett.”I laughed. “You are right about that. Am I ordering Shumai?”Silja smiled. “Damn right, you are. Shumai and a Singapore Sling!”I shook my head, smiling. She is very happy, and I am glad. Having this defamation case behind us is a great step. As we approached the bathroom, I saw Trina’s mother outside.“Let’s get out of here, Silja. If Trina’s mother is standing outside, then Trina is in there. I don’t want you alone with her.”She and Romy both stopped smiling. Romy grabbed Sils' free hand, and we turned around to leave. As we are walking away, I hear Mrs. Mayer call my name.“Ignore her, Ged. Nothing good will come from talking to her,” Silja said, and hone
Silja POVThe uneasy feeling I’m getting from Trina is only growing the longer we sit here waiting for the judge to come in. Romy notices and whispers in my ear, “Biatch, don’t get yourself worked up. This could be a tactic.”I took a deep breath. “I know you are right, but something feels off, Romy.”“Breathe, Sils. Remember, you answer only what you are asked. Do not elaborate more than needed.”Finally, the judge comes in, and we all stand.“Be seated,” the judge said.“This case is Sinnett v Mayer. Defamation,” the bailiff said as he handed the folder to the judge. He turned to Romy and me and asked us to explain the alleged defamation. Romy went on to explain that Trina publicly claimed I didn’t deliver the desired product, which ruined my reputation and cost me my job. She said it caused irreparable damage to my career and blacklisted me from the industry unjustly.“Do you have any proof to show the desired product was delivered and accepted?” The judge asked.Out of the corner o
Silja POV“You are not going by yourself, Sils,” Gerard said with finality.“Gerard, the Luna Guard will be with me, and so will my beta female. She’s my attorney after all.”“No. I’m coming with you. I don’t know what kind of stunt Trina is going to play. I haven’t forgotten what Larken said.”Larken did say she was planning something. “I don’t think she would try something in the courthouse, Gerard.”“I won’t take any chances. She could try something before or after the hearing. She could have something set up outside. I’m not risking your safety, Silja. I’m coming with you.”I smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck, conceding. “Okay. Then we'd better get going in the next hour.”I kissed him gently, and then he deepened the kiss. When he pulls away, he looks me in the eyes. “I want her, her scheming, and anything else she is plotting behind us, Silja. My dream hasn’t changed, and I am nervous that you are going to leave me and take our son with you. It will break me, Sils. You a
Silja POV It has been three months since Lennox was born. All has been quiet. Gerard and I have been living in peace with our son. Jaul and Ged talked about Kiercy staying at Night Crown, and Ged categorically shut that down. He called Elder Starling himself and said no. He told him what happened to Romy and how Kiercy was involved. Whether by force or intentionally, Kiercy hurt his beta female and is not welcome to stay in the pack. Romy has gotten a lot of documents prepared for the upcoming council hearing with Larken to have him put away for good. She is also working on getting my court date in the city to sue Trina for defamation. All in all, she has kept busy. She said that after the court hearing with Trina, she and Erik will start trying for a pup. She has gotten baby fever watching Ged and me with Lennox. Of course, Erik has been smiling and laughing nonstop, watching Ged stumble through feedings and getting thrown up on by his son. “Wait until it’s your turn, Erik. You a
Silja POVI am glad Gerard liked breakfast. I’m not much of a cook, so I don’t know if he was being nice or if he really liked the food, but I wanted to do something for him. He has been taking care of me, and I don’t want to come across as ungrateful.I’m super excited that Romy is my beta, and she
Erik POVRomy is sleeping in my arms, and I’m brooding. I want blood. Larken’s blood. That asshole traumatized Romy. I don’t know the full story, but I am going to get it out of her. Her wolf is traumatized. I have never seen a wolf more traumatized than their human before. This is new to me, and Ze
Jaul POV In just a few days, I will start as the Deputy CEO. I really hope that my brother is serious about helping me learn and giving me a chance. Even more than that, I’m hoping that Gerard really wants a good relationship with me. It also means I gain a sister with Silja. I hope she will be ni
Erik POV After everything I just found out, I’m not letting Romy slip through my fingers. She was rejected before. No wonder Zeb can’t sense her wolf. Her wolf's silence this long means the heartbreak was real. I wonder how long she had been in love with Beta Larken? He looks every bit of a Playbo
