Estelle's POV
Cassius Blackwood had cheated on me.
The realization didn't stir a single ripple inside me. It settled over my heart like the thin layer of ice that forms on a lake overnight—silent, cold, and thick enough to seal away every emotion beneath it.
I walked down the Packhouse corridor carrying a silver tray. Resting on it was a crystal goblet etched with a wolf crest, filled with dark red deer blood wine.
The air was saturated with a familiar scent—Cassius's.
Sharp. Dominant. Unmistakably Alpha.
Once, that scent had made me feel safe.
Now it only made me sick.
My wolf growled low in the back of my mind.
I didn't try to calm her. Her anger came from the same place as mine.
When I pushed open the study door, Cassius was seated behind his desk, reviewing documents.
The Northern Frontier Conference had clearly just concluded.
He had returned to the Thunderclaw Pack only this morning. The sleeves of his black shirt were rolled to his forearms, and despite the faint weariness shadowing his features, he was still devastatingly handsome.
If I didn't know the truth, who would ever believe an Alpha like him was betraying his own Mate?
"What are you doing here?" he asked without looking up.
I set the goblet beside him.
"You've been working all day. I thought you could use something to recharge."
Cassius frowned.
"I'm not thirsty."
I smiled.
"It's deer blood wine. The kitchen prepared it specially."
"Leave it there."
His disinterest couldn't have been clearer.
Then a soft noise drifted from the lounge adjoining the study.
Something had fallen over.
The room seemed to freeze.
The hand holding Cassius's pen visibly tightened.
Slowly, I lifted my gaze toward the closed lounge door.
"Is someone in there?"
I took a step toward it.
"Estelle."
Cassius's voice cut through the silence.
I turned back.
He had already picked up the goblet and drained it in a single swallow.
His throat worked as he emptied the glass.
Then he set it down.
"Happy now?" he asked. "Can we get to the reason you're here?"
I glanced at the empty goblet and allowed myself the faintest smile.
Perfect.
The potion should start working soon.
"There are a few documents that need your signature."
I handed him the folder I had prepared.
Cassius was clearly impatient. He flipped through the pages without reading more than a few lines.
"What are these?"
"Territorial adjustment agreements from the Northern Frontier Conference," I replied smoothly.
That part was true.
The first dozen pages were legitimate official documents.
Frowning, he turned to the signature pages and began signing.
His pen moved quickly across the paper.
Cassius Blackwood.
Page after page.
Sharp. Decisive.
In less than two minutes, every document had been signed—including the one buried among them.
The Mate Bond Dissolution Agreement.
I lowered my eyes and carefully gathered the paperwork.
My heartbeat remained steady.
Surprisingly steady.
A second noise came from the lounge.
This time it was louder.
More frantic.
Like someone had accidentally bumped into a table.
I looked up again.
"Sounds like someone really is in there."
Cassius's expression darkened immediately.
"Beta."
The Beta standing guard outside entered at once.
"Escort Luna back to the main house."
The room went still.
I slowly turned to look at Cassius.
"Why?"
"Because you've been overly sensitive lately."
Displeasure edged his voice.
"There's no one in the lounge. Estelle, since when did you start imagining things?"
I stared at him.
And suddenly, I found the whole situation almost funny.
A cheating man accusing someone else of being suspicious.
How ironic.
I lowered my gaze.
"Sorry. Maybe I was overthinking it."
His expression eased slightly.
"Go get some rest."
"Okay."
I nodded and turned toward the door.
The Beta opened it for me.
The moment it shut behind me, every trace of apology vanished from my face.
Back in my bedroom in the main house, I locked the door and pulled the signed documents from the folder.
The final document slid into view.
Across the top, printed in bold black letters, were the words:
MATE BOND DISSOLUTION AGREEMENT.
On the last page, Cassius's signature was already there.
Clean.
Decisive.
Exactly the same way he signed every official order.
I traced the ink with my fingertip.
Then I laughed softly.
The deer blood wine had never been ordinary wine.
It had been laced with a potion brewed by a witch.
The potion wouldn't harm him.
It merely dulled the senses connected to the Mate Bond.
Even after signing the dissolution agreement, he wouldn't notice anything unusual.
The truth was, I had known for a long time who was hiding in that lounge.
I had known for a long time that he had brought the young she-wolf from Northfall Pack back to Thunderclaw.
I even knew how long their affair had been going on.
The only person who didn't know how much I knew was Cassius.
I was far smarter than he gave me credit for.
On the next full moon, the agreement would take effect.
The Mate Bond would be severed automatically.
And when that happened, it would all be over.
I opened the Mind-Link communication channel.
Recipient: Lyra Blackwood, Cassius's mother.
The message was sent immediately. [I'd like to discuss a proposal with you.]
Less than ten seconds later, a reply appeared. [About leaving my son?]
I looked out the window.
Silver moonlight bathed the Thunderclaw Pack, peaceful and still as the sea before a storm.
A small smile touched my lips.
Then I typed my response. [Yes. And I think you'll find it very interesting.]
Estelle's POVHearing Cassius's words, I felt a headache coming on and had absolutely no idea how to respond. As I was searching for an answer, I suddenly heard someone click his tongue.Looking over Cassius's shoulder, I spotted Theron standing beneath a nearby streetlamp. The darkness cast sharp shadows across his features."Seriously," he said. "This is the third time I've heard this exact conversation."Thanks to a werewolf's heightened hearing, I caught every word despite how softly he spoke. Then again, as one of the most powerful Alphas alive, lowering his voice didn't seem like something he naturally bothered with.Beside him, Amelia looked equally exasperated."If this were a novel," she said, "the readers would be accusing the author of padding the chapters. One person says, ‘Activate the bond.' The other says, ‘No.' Then they repeat the same argument ten thousand times."Theron fell silent for two seconds before nodding thoughtfully."That's a fair point." He looked between
Estelle's POVI nodded impassively. "Yeah. The Moon Goddess must be pretty bored today."The door swung open, and the scent of an Alpha flooded the room.Cassius walked in and sat down beside me. His gaze swept over my face before settling on my hands. Only after confirming I wasn't hurt did the tension in his aura ease slightly. Then, without warning, he reached out, pulled my face toward him, and started feeding me."You're this hungry? You came out here just to eat on your own? Why didn't you tell me?" His tone was casual, as if nothing had happened.I tugged at the corner of my mouth but said nothing.Cassius looked up at Theron. Two Alpha auras clashed in silence, like rival wolf kings sizing each other up across a contested border."Alpha Theron," he said with a cold smile. "You really enjoy hanging around other people's mates, don't you? She has a mate. Didn't you know that?"The entire Italian restaurant fell silent at once. Even the owner and his wife perked up, clearly preten
Estelle's POVThe message had barely been sent when Amelia's call came through.I frantically hung up and switched to text.Amelia replied almost immediately: [Who saved you? In that godforsaken place of yours, who else but me would come looking for you in the middle of the night?]I stared at the screen, momentarily lost in thought.I'd originally planned to brush it off, but since she'd asked, not answering would only make me look guilty. And what exactly did I have to feel guilty about? So I typed a name with complete honesty: [Theron.]There was a three-second pause before her messages exploded across the screen.[??????][What's going on?!][Nightshade's Alpha personally came to save you?!][That's way beyond a boss caring about an employee, isn't it?!]The corner of my mouth twitched. [Because I'm a hero.]Amelia replied instantly. [Then do another heroic deed. Shouldn't he reward you with himself?]I stared at the screen, expressionless.[Shut up.][Just focus on running your la
Estelle's POVThe next second, a strong arm wrapped around my waist, and suddenly my feet left the ground."Aaaah—Help! Somebody's trying to kill me!"I struggled wildly, kicking and flailing. Several solid kicks landed on whoever was behind me.Then a deep voice sounded above my head."No one's trying to kill you."The moment I heard it, I froze. That voice was unmistakable—familiar in a way that settled deep in my bones. It was like mountain spring water after the thaw: cool, clear, and strangely reassuring. My struggling gradually stopped, and I turned my head.Moonlight filtered through the treetops, illuminating a face so striking it was almost intimidating. Pale skin. Deep-set eyes. And that presence unique to a top-tier Alpha—like a sandalwood forest beneath a winter sky, powerful and dangerous, yet remarkably restrained.I stared at him, completely dumbfounded. At that moment, a bear stepping out of the woods would have seemed more believable than what I was seeing."Y-you…" I
Estelle's POVIn that moment, a crimson glow flashed in his eyes."Regret?" He stared at me, his voice low and dangerous. "But you're already my Luna.""I used to be!" I finally screamed, breaking down. "You're the one who betrayed me! You're the one who neglected me! You're the one who left me suffering through the Bond every single day!"The tears came uncontrollably, one after another."Why am I the one paying the price for all of it? Cassius, how did you become this cruel?"The carriage fell silent.I watched the madness in his eyes fracture piece by piece, leaving behind nothing but pain—raw, unbearable pain.He lifted a hand toward me, then stopped halfway, as though he no longer had the right to touch me."I'm sorry," he whispered. "Estelle, I'm sorry. It's my fault. All of it. I just…"His voice broke, sounding like the whimper of a wounded wolf."I just didn't want to lose you."I stared at him blankly. Suddenly, I felt so exhausted that even my anger had burned itself out.Mo
Estelle's POVThe compartment was hazy with cigarette smoke. His tie hung loose around his neck, and dark strands of hair had fallen across his forehead.I had to admit it—Cassius was still devastatingly handsome. Mature. Dangerous. Every inch the Alpha. But the image that surfaced in my mind wasn't the man standing before me.It was the boy from years ago. The boy who would blush whenever our fingers brushed. The boy who'd hidden his first bouquet behind his back, too embarrassed to hand it over. That boy was gone. He'd been gone for a very long time.I drew a slow breath and met his gaze."So?" I asked. "What exactly do you want?"Cassius exhaled a stream of smoke, his eyes never leaving mine. They were frighteningly dark, like a wolf studying its prey.A long moment passed. Then he suddenly leaned closer. The scent of tobacco brushed against my skin as his deep voice filled the cramped compartment."Estelle. I've been thinking about this for a long time." His eyes searched my face.
Estelle's POVA crack finally appeared in Adam's composure.Perhaps only then did he truly realize—I had never been some naïve, gentle little lamb.I sat there lazily swirling the tea in my cup, able to smell the growing chaos of emotions thickening the air: restlessness, anger, guilt. It reminded
Estelle's POVHis tone was calm and measured, yet it felt like a net slowly tightening around me. "In the end, we still need to talk face-to-face."I said nothing.Adam added slowly, "Think of it as coming to visit me."I considered it quietly for a moment before final
Estelle's POVMy whole body froze, and the hairs on the back of my neck rose instantly. My wolf reacted a split second before my mind did.I whipped around, my heart skipping a beat.Theron stood in the kitchen doorway, the sleeves of his black shirt rolled up slightly. He still carried the crisp s
