Jayden thought he could act the ‘man’. He snapped out of his shock, his eyes flaring with rage.

“Okay, I don't know what you think you're up to, or what sort of rat ass move you just pulled, but you have gone way too far, Amber!” He roared as he lunged forward, intending to tackle me and stop my madness before it could even begin.

But I didn't hesitate for even half a second. Five years in hell had stripped me of any hesitation. I gripped the handle of the metal bat with both hands and swung it with everything I had.

CLANG!

The heavy metal connected right with the side of his head. The brutal force completely threw him off balance, sending him crashing hard against the nightstand, breaking the wood in the process.

He let out a choked groan, blood instantly pooling down his temple.

Karen let out a piercing shriek. Terrified, she tried to scramble out of the opposite side of the bed to run, but I was already moving around her. As her bare feet hit the floorboards, I brought the bat swinging down in a low, vicious arc.

CRACK!

The metal smacked heavily over her shins. Karen screamed in pure agony, collapsing onto the floor, clutching her legs as tears of absolute terror streamed down her face.

And so came the brutal torture. Every strike of the bat was for the starvation I endured, the slaps I took, the five years of playing the fool, and the final, cold sting of their teeth and blade. I didn't stop until the bedroom was painted in a grim crimson.

Once they were both covered in blood, barely breathing, and reduced to groaning heaps on the floor, I stopped. I lowered the bat, my breath rattling heavily in the quiet room and looked down at my hands, waiting for the dream to shatter.

But I wasn't waking up.

The copper smell of blood was very real. The burning in my unconditioned muscles was too sharp. This dream... it was either lasting much longer than it ever should, or this fact was finally undeniable: I had been given a second chance.

Suddenly, that same sharp ping from earlier chimed in my mind, and the glowing blue system screen opened right before my eyes.

[First Quest Completed!]

—Result: Scum neutralized.

—Reward: 1x Random Skill: [Evidence Erasure] (Level 1)

Ah, what is this? I looked at the reward I had gotten and then back at the crime scene I had just created. It's so handy, I thought, a dark smile returning to my face. This system is incredibly generous.

The skill details flashed briefly. It was a once-a-day use skill, capable of erasing my involvement in any crime I committed, and so, it was exactly what I needed.

I instantly activated it. Right before my eyes, a faint light enveloped the bedroom.

The metal bat in my hand completely dissolved into thin air. The blood splatters covering my clothes, face, and arms vanished instantly, leaving my body entirely clean. The crime scene itself warped, rewriting the physical evidence to make it look like Jayden and Karen had gotten into a violent, psychotic domestic dispute with each other and had been throwing things at each other.

With a completely clean slate, I took a deep breath, walked out to the living room, and picked up my phone to dial emergency services.

The moment the line connected, I forced the tears back into my voice, crying hysterically into the receiver. "Please! Send an ambulance! I… I don't know what happened but there… there's blood everywhere and… they're barely breathing. Please, come quick." I sobbed.

“Please, stay calm, ma'am. Tell me your location and we'll be there right away.”

When the ambulance and police arrived, I gave my statement perfectly, playing the part of the shattered, traumatized girlfriend.

I told them through heavy sobs how I had caught them cheating, how I had slapped Jayden in a fit of rage and bolted out of the room. I had thousands of witness from my live stream to vouch for that.

But then I came back because I wanted to hear their explanation—it was just too hard to believe. Why would they do something like that to me? Why would they betray me? And then... that's when I saw the horrific, bloody scene inside.

Without a single shred of blood on my body, no forensic evidence linking me to the injuries, and the actual weapon entirely missing from existence, the police had nothing to hold me on but I was taken to the police station to give an official statement.

The cops looked at me with pity, hearing my story with those two and then having to witness that bloody scene. And I made sure to play my part perfectly.

After a few hours of questioning, the precinct finally set me free.

I walked out of the police station, stretching my sore arms as I looked out at the horizon. The sun was just setting, casting a deep, blood-red hue over the city. Yes, the sun just set on a bad end, but tomorrow, it would rise to an entirely new beginning.

With those two heavily hospitalized and the system subtly wiping part of their memories regarding my involvement, they would be completely broken, trapped in hospital beds when the world collapsed. They wouldn't be able to survive a single day of the outbreak. This was their ultimate punishment.

The pit boss heard this, and what came next was boisterous laughter. He was cracking up really hard, throwing his head back like I was the funniest clown alive."You?" he mocked, wiping an imaginary tear from his eye. "Trying to save the big boss’s life? Pathetic."Suddenly, the laugh died down in his throat. The amusement vanished instantly, replaced by a terrifyingly cold, sharp glare. He stepped closer, his shadow completely blotting out the light above me."I don't know who sent you here, but your first mistake was uttering the big boss's name so carelessly," he hissed. "Besides, there's always someone trying to poison or kill our big boss, so that's nothing new. What are the odds that you aren't just trying to get in touch with him so ‘you’ can do the same?"The two towering guards behind him shifted, their leather jackets creaking as they took a step forward.I let out an inward sigh. My head was still throbbing like crazy from the roulette table, and my pulse was racing. I

  • Apocalypse Rebirth: Under The Mad Dog's Protection   Four Wins

The moment I stepped inside, the bass from the speakers vibrated straight through the soles of my heels. The air of the main floor was filled with expensive liquor, heavy perfume, and on the ground were dancing bodies. But I wasn't here to dance. I kept my eyes moving, scanning the crowd, looking for any sign of a notorious mafia lord.I didn't see him anywhere. In a place this massive, finding a man who actively stayed in the shadows was going to be impossible just by looking. I needed to go deeper.Following the flow of a few men dressed in tailored suits, I navigated past the main dance floor and headed down a carpeted corridor that led to the basement. The throbbing music faded, replaced by the sound of clinking glasses, the shuffle of cards, and the low, tense murmurs of high-stakes gamblers. The underground casino. It was luxurious, drenched in gold accents and green velvet tables. My breath slightly hitched as I realized that this was Lucien Giovanni's true playground.I appr

The mad dog, Lucien, mostly operates in networks that the authorities can't find. At least, that's what I know of the guy. And there are talks that his base of operation is mostly at clubs, bars, and casinos. One place that has all of that combined is the Onyx Club. That is, if I even want to try and get a glimpse of him, I have to head there. “This is going to be rough,” I murmured. I might as well be walking into my own doom. That's a freaking lion's den. First thing's first. In order to get into a high-end place like the Onyx Club, I needed to look the part. There was no way the bouncers at a mafia-run establishment would let me through the door wearing an oversized hoodie. And so, I went to take a quick look at my wardrobe. Five years of surviving in dirt, blood, and rags had completely skewed my memory of my own clothes. Sliding open the closet doors felt like stepping into an alternate reality. It was packed with soft fabrics, pastel colors, and trendy outfits m

  • Apocalypse Rebirth: Under The Mad Dog's Protection   A Death Penalty

The second I finally got back to my own apartment and locked the door behind me, the sheer reality of the situation began to dawn on me properly.I was truly back. I was back in the past, and there were exactly two weeks left before the apocalypse.I walked straight into my bedroom and collapsed face-first onto the mattress, tightly gripping the large brown teddy bear I used to cuddle every single night. The teddy I missed so much in those gruelling nights after the apocalypse hit. I buried my face in its soft fur, breathing in the clean scent. I had not just missed the teddy, but my bed was well. In the apocalypse, this kind of comfort was a premium luxury. Not even our stronghold leader had a mattress this soft and comfortable. But as the adrenaline faded, a deep exhaustion took over—both emotionally and physically. Even though [Evidence Erasure] had wiped my body clean of blood, my untrained arms and muscles throbbed painfully from the exertion of swinging that bat.A cold w

  • Apocalypse Rebirth: Under The Mad Dog's Protection   A Livestream of infidelity

The walk to Jayden’s apartment felt like torture because I was burning with rage. Every step I took with that metal bat hidden under my oversized hoodie reminded me of the weight of the knife Karen had driven into my throat.I planned to beat them up but that alone wasn't enough. It wasn't satisfying for just me to know, so I wondered. How to ruin them completely?I looked up at a digital billboard displaying a Livestream and a toxic idea struck me, my lips curling deviously. That's right… How will little miss perfect ever crawl out into public once I ruin her pristine image first?I reached Jayden's front door, and my fingers didn't tremble. I typed in the security code—the exact numbers he had carelessly mumbled around a campfire years later when the world was already in ruins and then it opened with a quiet click.I slipped inside, closing the door behind me without making a single sound. The apartment was quiet, except for the muffled, unmistakable sounds coming from the bedroom d
