Death is countered by the birth of a new life, but the souls that enter the world are never the same as the ones that left it. Nature does not replace what was lost; it only fills the vacuum with something new. But souls are not gone forever. Perhaps after a thousand years of hovering in the darkness through centuries like ashes scattered to the wind, it may find its way back.

Time is endless, and eternity is not in a hurry.

When such a soul is born again, destiny begins to repeat itself. The same rage that may consume the body or love that causes them to make stupid decisions. Sometimes, you could blame tragedy for creating a ferocious psychopath but sometimes, it’s just who they are.

Emily knew she looked terrible but she hurried out the door anyway, dragging her jacket over one shoulder while trying to tie her hair back at the same time. She and Giselle had gone out the night before, and she had stupidly convinced herself she could still make it home early enough to sleep before work.

Technically, she had. Unfortunately, she’d also slept through her alarm.

Her bicycle laid crooked on the lawn of the courtyard. She lifted it upright and pedaled out of the neighborhood.

At seventeen, Emily believed she had already mapped out how her life was suppose to unfold: Graduate high school, save enough money to leave town and go to college, find her Prince Charming and live happily ever after. It was simple.

By the time she reached Velvet, she knew the sweat had made her look worse. She leaned her bike against the wall beside the rear entrance and walked inside.

     “You're late!”

She jumped, nearly dropping her jacket and the coffee she had bought on her way.

Daryl stood in the doorway carrying a tray of orange juice glasses. His expression was stern, but amusement flickered in his eyes. Emily still didn’t understand how he managed to look entertained and disappointed at the same time. They were the same age, though Daryl towered over her so badly that he never missed an opportunity to call her ‘short queen.’ Usually she’d just laugh it off.

“Damn, did you crawl out of a rat hole?” He chuckled.

“Well,” Emily brushed past him into the kitchen, “maybe if your girlfriend actually showed up to work, I wouldn’t be dying from exhaustion every week.”

Daryl groaned, rolling his eyes as he followed behind her. “Oh my God. Bianca is not my girlfriend.”

“You defend her like she pays your rent. Always trying please her.”

Daryl set the tray onto the counter with a sigh. “I had a crush on her in third grade… that’s it.”

“And yet somehow you still cover for her to your brother every time she disappears.”

The corner of Daryl’s lips twitched as he fought back a smirk. For the first time, he didn’t have a come back for her wits.

Orders piled across the kitchen counter while Emily and another staff rushed trays between tables. By noon, her arms had begin to ache and her feet felt numb inside her loafers. She collapsed into a chair near the bar.

But then, something—better yet—someone was missing today. She hadn’t realized until she looked over the bar and saw Sydney mixing drinks. Normally Edric would’ve been there, helping him survive the crowd. But he wasn’t there or anywhere around the place.

Edric Williams—the manager, eldest son of Nicholas Williams, and Daryl’s older brother. You could say he was the human version of expensive whiskey. Calm and collected. He was just twenty years old but he loved to dress like he has an interview by nine thirty. Emily had probably never seen him in anything other than a suit.

The front doors opened. A man and woman stepped inside. The man looked to be in his early forties, silver threaded through the dark hair at his temples. Handsome in a severe sort of way. The woman on the other hand, with her black wavy hair and burgundy backless gown, was stunning enough to turn the heads of men sitted inside. The kind of woman who looked expensive. Actually, both of them did.

Emily straightened her apron and approached their table.

“Welcome to Velvet,” she said. “Can I get you started with anything?”

The woman barely glanced at the menu before she spoke. “We’ll start with oysters and burrata. Ribeye, medium rare. Béarnaise on the side.”

     Emily hesitated. “And drinks?”

“Any drink is fine,” the woman said dismissively.

The man simply sat there smiling, like he was walking on sunshine.

Twenty minutes or later, Emily returned with their order. “Enjoy.” She said and started to leave.

     “What is this?”

Emily halted, looking down at the table. Genuine confusion etched on her face.

“You brought us soda?” The lady stared at her in disbelief.

      “Sorry, ma’am . You didn’t specify a drink. It’s our most popular—”

“You didn’t think to bring wine? A cocktail? Vodka?” The lady interrupted her. “Cheap girl.”

     Blood rushed into Emily’s face.

The man finally looked up from his phone and ran his gaze down Emily with a stern expression. Emily swallowed hard. She took a deep breath and held her tongue.

“You are a moron,” the woman said flatly. “Do you know that?”

That did it. Bringing soda to these sophisticated people was her mistake but she realized the lady was just being mean.

You’re the moron, you ugly–ass bitch! It burned inside her head and she badly wanted to spit those words out aloud.

“Eve,” the man said calmly. “Humans are stupid and irrational creatures,” he continued, cutting into his steak without looking away from the woman. “They’re rarely worth the effort.”

What the hell is wrong with these people? She thought. The man finally looked at her.

“Is that how employees speak to customers here?” he asked. “Calling them ugly?”

Emily froze. Her jaw hung in utmost shock. She was deadass sure she had only said that in her mind.

The man smiled faintly. “Please leave now,” he said. “You’ve already ruined enough of our day.”

Chris laid on the bed in Sydney's room, drenched in sweat. His limbs, leaden, felt as though encased in metal and the painful flow of wolfsbane burned in his veins like acid. His eyes rolled to Benjamin, who sat on the edge of the bed like a vulture waiting for its prey to die. An evil grin played across his lips as he raised a syringe, its contents a deadly shade of green. "Dad, that's enough already." Sydney was standing beside the shelf. "You've already given him countless shots of wolfsbane anymore and you're going to kill him." He said. Benjamin's face twisted in a sneer. "If I wanted him dead, I would have done it already," he hissed, pressing the needle against Chris's arm and Chris felt the sharp pierce on his skin. Tears rolled down as he shut his eyes close, anticipating the worst. But what he heard was a crash across the room. They all looked up and found the door tossed on the other side, emanating flames, and Emily strode in. The flaming wings at her back glowed over he

Elsa sat alone in the cellar, reflecting on Oliver's words. The sun was already lowering, and she threw her gaze to the window that was situated at the top left corner. She had a limited amount of time. She stood up and began to pace the cellar. The last thing she wanted to do was let them down, and it broke her heart to think that Michael might not make it. Anything she could to prevent that from happening. She raised herself up and pounded the metal door of the cellar with her fist."I want to see Oliver."She didn't anticipate any nearby warlocks responding to her request. Plus, who ever pays attention to their prisoners? But when she heard the sound of the locks clanging, she was astounded. A warlock of about her age entered, he took her arm in a firm grip but was more gentle than the one earlier. He kept up with her pace until they reached Oliver's doorstep. He gave a soft knock and waited outside until he heard a response from the person on the other side of the door. He then o

"Who do we have here?" The man stood up from his seat and walked past Elsa."Let her go, Alaric." Philip yelled, struggling to free himself from the two warlocks who held tightly to his arm."She came here on her own, so why don't you let her decide if she wants to go or not?" Alaric smirked."Let them go." Elsa said, and Alaric spun around to face her."Since when do I take orders from a child?""I'm not a child.""Whatever. I now have your dad and his werewolf friend here, so I've got some leverage.""What do you want?" Elsa frowned."Surrender yourself to be taken for trialling." "No!" Philip yelled and struggled once more."I'll do it, as long as you let them leave here unharmed.""Believe me, I'm a man of my word." Elsa held her both hands above her head and a warlock grabbed her hands, twisting it to the back, causing her to wince and curse inwardly as he cuffed her hands, holding on to the chain attached to it. She watched them take their grip off her father and Nicholas, and

Morning came and Elsa sat up on her bed as she stretched her tired limbs and a yawn followed. Her brows furrowed; she felt something instantly, a presence of someone in her room. She slowly spun her head around and jumped out of her bed with a scream as her eyes fell on the man sitting in the small chair in her room. "Dad!" She placed her hands on her chest to settle her chaotic breathing. "You scared me." "I'm sorry." He smiled. "Did you stay up all night?" She asked. "No," He shook his head. "I came in this morning to apologise for all that happened last night, but you were asleep." "OK..." Elsa swallowed. She immediately remembered the picture she had drawn on her jotter, and she immediately went to grab it from the drawer which stood on the left side of her headboard. "Here." She flipped the page and handed it to him. "That's the building I saw in my vision and my instinct tells me that's where I'll find answers. I need to go there.""No!" Philip rose from his seat and paced t

Lights flashed and Elsa found herself standing in front of a tall and aged, crooked building looking like nothing more than a castle. With how dark and quiet it was, she wondered if there was anyone living in there. She immediately sensed something; intense power emanated from the building, then she quickly understood that the building wasn't just any building. Her guts suddenly urged her to go in and as she took a step forward, a rough wind blew, raising dust and sand that blurred her view and when she passed through the wind, she saw herself in front of a book floating in the middle of a wild flame.Sensing someone behind her, she spun around and her jaw fell from the sight of a dashingly handsome guy, probably in his early twenties. His sliver eyes glistening as the flames reflected in them. His sharp jawline and dark eyes gave him a frightening pulchritude, while his long, silky blonde hair, which flaunted around his shoulders from the mild breeze, gave him a regal look. There was

Blake raised his hands at the ravens, signaling them to seize the torture. He shook his head vigorously and yelled at her. "No! You told me your son was dead.""I lied." Rebecca maintained a facial expression void of emotion."Then how did he become..." Blake grimaced and pointed at Jacob, who had already transformed halfway. "This?"Victoria looked back at her son and fought back the tears that threatened to drop as she saw blood dripping down his body with his huge, dark wings spread out. She could barely see his skin as blood covered most of it. "A werewolf bit him during the full moon." Victoria began and turned to face Blake. "But because of his inactive raven, his body accommodated the venom and instead of killing him, he transformed into this; a pterolycus." She said.****Dickson turned off his car engine and alighted.
