LOGINVanya’s POV
I didn't speak. My tongue felt glued to the roof of my mouth.
“Answer me!” Garrick roared. “Did someone bully you? Did anybody lay a finger on you at the academy?”
“No!” The word burst from my throat before I could lose my nerve. I forced my hands to stop trembling, balling them into tight fists against my skirt.
“No, Garrick, nothing like that. I—I just went downtown after classes to get some supplies I needed for the holiday. But I lost my purse on the way. I couldn't buy anything, and I couldn't afford a ride back home, so I had to walk.”
Garrick’s chest heaved. His sharp eyes raked over my face, scanning for any flicker of a lie. For a terrible second, his nose twitched, searching the air. My heart hammered violently against my ribs, so loud I was certain his apex hearing would track it.
Slowly, the rigid tension in his shoulders melted. He let out a long, ragged breath and ran a rough hand through his hair, his fangs slowly retracting.
“A lost purse huh?” he muttered.
“Don't scare me like that next time, Vanya. You're wolfless, When you disappear for hours without a word, my mind goes straight to the worst-case scenario. Go up to your room.”
“Okay,” I whispered.
I hurried upstairs, locked the door, and sank straight onto the floor.
i couldn't Sleep that night, every time I closed my eyes, the memory of Kaelven’s hands and the searing heat of his pocket-dimension flooded my senses.
My shoulder throbbed where he mark me, i tossed and turned, staring up into the dark until the sun cut through the window.
The academy courtyard was pure chaos. It was the final morning before break, and nobody was paying attention to school rules. Some groups of student were shouting, tossing old flyers into the central fountain, and dragging heavy luggage toward the main gates.
I kept my head down, navigating through the crowd toward the lockers.
“Vanya”
Maya dropped her backpack onto a nearby stone bench and caught my arm. Her eyes narrowed the second she saw my face. She reached out, pressing the back of her hand firmly against my forehead. “God, you look completely wiped out. Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, I'm fine, Maya,” I said, pulling back quickly and fixing my hair to cover my neck. “Just didn't sleep at all.”
“Are you sure? Because you look like a ghost.” Maya crossed her arms, analyzing me. “If you're sick, we should go to the infirmary before the final assembly.”
“I’m fine, seriously”
“Vanya.”
An arrogant voice cut right through the noise, the crowd of nearby students split apart as Torin pushed through.
He was wearing his Ironwood pack leather jacket, his broad shoulders squared and a smug, predatory grin pinned to his face. it was Torin My father’s handpicked fiancee.
Before I could even step away, Torin clamped his fingers around my wrist, his grip was entirely too tight.
“What are you doing here, Torin?” I strained against his hand, but he didn't budge.
“You can't just walk in the academy grounds like you own the place.”
chill honey, I already taken permission before I came here.
“The holidays start in an hour, which means our arrangement becomes official,” Torin said, pulling me a step closer.
“Your father already gave me the green light. my car is packed at the gates right now. Go grab your things from the locker We’re leaving now.”
Maya lunged forward, shoving her hand right against Torin’s chest.
“She’s not feeling well, Torin. Let go of her.”
“Keep your friend quiet, Vanya. You're my betrothed. If you’re feeling sick, you can spend the holidays recovering at my packhouse.”
“Torin, let go,” I warned, my voice rising as a few passing students stopped to watch the scene, People are looking.
“Let them look,” he growled, his thumb digging into my skin until it bruised.
“You belong to the Ironwood territory you their future luna, You don't tell your Alpha no.”
“She won't be going to the Ironwood territory today, Alpha Torin.”
A cold voice cut torin off as the crowd went completely silent, it was the senior academy administrators walking toward us, holding a formal white document sealed with silver wax, her focus was entirely locked on me.
Torin’s jaw clenched, “What is this? Her father already signed the release forms for the holiday.”
The administrator stopped two paces away, the regional pack approvals are voided.
Vanya has just been issued an immediate, direct mandate from the central tower.”
Maya gasped, looking between the document and my face
“A mandate? For what?”
The administrator held out the paper, her voice echoing clearly across the courtyard.
“Release the girl, Torin. Vanya, you are to report to the Supreme Lycan Prince’s private office immediately. He is waiting, and he does not tolerate delays.”
Before I could even process the sentence, little Theo let out a loud gasp, dropping my hand and darting straight for the front door. He sprinted past the guard and out onto the hallway, his tiny legs moving as fast as they could carry him up the pack hospital."Theo, wait," I mumbled, dropping my backpack and bolting after him.Garrick didn't say a word, but he followed right behind me, as we raced up the path. The cold wind whipped against my face, but I didn't care. My mind spun through a hundred wild possibilities. She is awake. She can finally explain what this is. She can tell everyone why she brought that boy to our house and why she smashed her head against the stone pillar. We burst through the door of the pack hospital, the smell of antiseptic hitting my nose instantly. Nurses scrambled out of our way as we charged down the corridor. When we reached room 402, the door was already open.Little Theo was standing right beside the high white bed, his small hands gripping the thi
Walking out of the academy gates with Maya right beside me felt like stepping out of a dark tunnel and into the sun.Just hours ago, I thought my life was completely destroyed. I thought I had lost my best friend forever, that my brother was doomed, and that my entire world was falling apart. But now, with Maya’s shoulder brushing against mine as we walked down the road together, everything felt lighter. The heavy weight on my chest finally cracked open.We had survived the worst storm, and we were standing together on the other side.Maya bumped her shoulder gently against mine, breaking the silent."So," Maya muttered, a small smirk pulling at the corner of her lips as she glanced sideways at me. "Are you going to tell me how you actually managed to conquer my cold, miserable brother? Because last I checked, Kaelven treats everyone like they are invisible dirt."I felt a hot flush rush straight up my neck, heating my cheeks into a bright red mess. I stared down at my shoes, pul
"Maya, please wait," I shouted, sprinting down the hallway and catching up to her right by the double doors leading out of the academy.I reached out, grabbing her arm gently to stop her from walking away.Maya stopped, pulling her arm out of my grip. She turned around, crossing her arms over her chest, glaring down at the floor before finally looking up at me."What do you want, Vanya?" Maya muttered, "Do you have another secret to dump on me? Another brother you are sleeping with? Or did another random woman show up at your house to ruin your family?"The words stung, but I know i deserved it."I am sorry," I sobbed, tears spilling over my face, i didn't care that students were walking past us, staring and whispering. I didn't care about the hallway or the gossip or anything else. "Maya, please, just listen to me. I am so, so sorry.""Sorry?" Maya scoffed, shaking her head as hot tears welled up in her own eyes. "Is that all you have to say? Vanya, you lied to my face for months
The next morning, I woke up with a splitting headache, the kind that feels like someone is hammering a nail straight into the center of my skull.I buried my face in my pillow, groaning softly as the memories of yesterday came rushing back. Kate slamming her head against the stone pillar, the pool of blood on the floor, little Theo sleeping on our couch, and the pack doctor taking the DNA swabs. Every single detail sat heavy on my chest.I cannot go to the academy today, I thought, pulling the blanket up over my head. There is no way I can walk through those front doors after everything that has happened. The whispers about marcus were already bad enough, but now everyone knows about Garrick and the secret child. The whole pack is talking. Before I could sink back into sleep, the bedroom door flew open with a loud bang.My father stood in the doorway, his uniform sharp, his face carved out of pure stone. He crossed his arms over his chest, glaring down at me on the bed."Get up, Vany
I looked up, expecting my father to walk back in and start screaming, but instead, it was the pack doctor returning alone with a small metal box in his hands. He closed the door behind him and walked straight into the living room, stopping right in front of Garrick."The Beta sent me back to handle this before things get out of hand," the doctor muttered, opening the metal box and pulling out a sterile cotton swab and a small plastic tube.Garrick looked up, wiping blood from his chin. "What is that for?""A DNA test," the doctor said flatly, looking between Garrick and the little boy. "We are going to swab the child's cheek and take a sample from you. We are going to settle this right now, once and for all, while the mother is unconscious and can not interfere."A DNA test, finally, we would have real proof. We would know the absolute truth, whether Garrick was lying to us all along or if we were all walking right into a massive trap.I scrambled to my feet, holding onto the back o
The room went completely dead. For two seconds, nobody moved, nobody breathed. Then, the little boy let out a piercing, terrified shriek, dropping to his knees beside Kate's motionless body and shaking her arm."Mommy, Mommy, wake up," the toddler cried, his tiny sobs filling the silence of the packhouse.I stared at the pool of blood spreading across the wooden floor from Kate's head. My heart hammered against my ribs so hard I thought it would crack through my chest. What just happened? She actually did it. She smashed her own head against the stone pillar right in front of us just to prove her point. If she dies on our floor, my family is completely ruined."Garrick, Look what you caused," my father roared, his face turning red with fury. He rushed past me, grabbing Garrick by the collar again and throwing him hard against the wall. "Your mess, Your destruction, Look at what your secret life has brought to this house,""I did not do this," Garrick yelled, pushing himself up on hi
