BIANCA

I'd been so overcome with emotions last night, I completely forgot the next day was the weekend.

There weren't any classes, and the campus would barely even be open…

… apart from the spaces meant for the extracurriculars and overtly serious academicians.

Funny enough, the little prick left my message on read too. I wondered if that meant he'd still show up, or that he'd given up on playing these stupid games with me.

Whatever the answer was, I had to get it today. The only problem was…

“It's a bit early Bianca. Plus, it's Saturday. Why would I want to be in campus on a Saturday?”

Ellie usually drove us to school. And today, understandably, she wasn't in the mood.

“You can take the car if it's that important” she gestured to the keys on her side-table. “But I'm sleeping in today.”

There was only one problem with that suggestion. One very big problem.

I didn't know how to drive.

Maybe this was a sign that I should stay back home. Besides, I had to plan some content for tonight.

But at the same time, I really wanted to get this… whatever this was… over with.

I had to find a way!

I marched out of her room with a determination that seemed crazy for a situation so bizarre.

Would an Uber get there in time? Would the bus?

Any and every possibility orbited my mind, until I got downstairs… and met one standing across from me.

He stood there, compression shirt molded to every ridge of muscle. Shoulders broad, arms thick like coiled power. The fabric stretched taut over his chest, nipples faintly visible through the damp polyester. He flexed a sling bag in one hand, helmet in the other... inspecting the tinted visor with laser focus.

And thank God too. Because I couldn't take my eyes off him.

What am I doing? He was just in bed with my best friend.

The dream surged back. His tongue on my neck, hands cupping my breasts... and I let out a sharp, involuntary squeak.

His eyes whipped back to me, grazing my oversized sweatpants and hoodie until our gazes met.

“Why do I have a feeling you're going out?” He asked.

I briefly took my eyes off him. Hiding an emotion I was too flustered to name.

“Maybe I am” I said. “Maybe I need your help getting there too.”

He chuckled.

“I'd love to, but I'm heading to Campus for basketball practice. Maybe some other time?”

Jackpot!

“Actually…” I turned back to him. “Campus works for me too.”

***

I shouldn't have enjoyed the ride down here as much as I did, but I couldn't help myself.

The second his fingers brushed my skin adjusting the helmet, my pulse stuttered. At every red light, he'd tug me closer, my chest pressing to his back, thighs bracketing his hips. Safety, sure. But the heat of him seeped through leather and fabric, pooling low in my belly.

How many times did I have to remind myself he was Ellie's boyfriend and nothing else?

“I'm already a little late” he said, parking outside the recreation center. “Give me a call when you're done. I'll drop you back at Ellie's.”

I went silent.

Partially because I knew I couldn't handle another thirty minutes of pretending my heart didn't thump out of my chest whenever I felt the warmth of his skin. And partially because… we were actually heading in the same direction.

But I couldn't tell him that, so I waited until he dissapeared far enough, and took a different path.

It didn't take long until the grunts from the court became fairly audible. Balls collided against wood as shoes squeaked over the polished space. My mind had somehow already conjured a picture.

Max. Shirtless. Sweat running down those defined muscles like—

Fucking hell. I really need to stop.

The route through the back seemed abandoned for most parts. Cobwebs hung around a couple broken windows. Dust tangled against the lights that spilled in through the small cracks.

Every step through the crooked course felt like navigating the Bermuda triangle.

Until I made it out…

…And realised I walked right into a deathtrap.

Rumpled clothes hung from benches. Shoes and worn out laces littered the walkway. P**n mags peeking from open lockers.

My skin prickled in an instant. I wasn't anywhere near the bleachers.

This was… the boy's locker room!

“For God's sake Josh, pass the damn ball when I ask for it!”

I recognised that voice like a spark in the dark. Wade.

Murmurs followed his hurl, footsteps multiplying in its wake.

I scrambled for an escape route, but I couldn't go back the same way I came. They'd reach me before I could slide out.

I dashed through the scattered space, making a break for anywhere that could pass as temporary solitude.

The room grew darker the further I forged, but I snagged a view of the space I slid into right before I did… and it was safe to say, I was completely and utterly fucked.

“Of all places. The private showers?”

I bit down on my nails, already counting down the seconds to my doom as their banter went on. There was absolutely no way I was making it out of here without being caught.

“A shame she's dating Max. She felt so good at the club.”

Somehow, even while my mind spun, the sentence caught my attention.

“She felt so tight too. You'd think she hadn't gotten any action in years.”

It hit again. This time, twice as hard. Not just because I knew who he was referring to… but because the person speaking… was Wade again!

“C’mon man, don't talk about Max's girl like that.”

“Or what?” His tone grew fierce. “You think I'm afraid of him?”

The space went silent.

“If anything, he should be thanking me. I helped keep her warm. No pretty lady deserves to be abandoned like that.”

Wade had always spoken with a tone much harder than someone like him should've been able to afford. Now, it was even worse. Which could only mean, Max wasn't in the room with them.

He went on. Slurring, bragging, nearly beating his chest as he narrated Ellie's last night out. Pictures of her grew dark in my mind.

Everyone had flaws. I did too. But cheating on Max… with Wade?

It didn't make any sense.

Eventually, the room settled into a hush much quieter, and the bodies threading through gradually reduced. Lockers shut. Banter died. And it finally felt like I would actually make it out without breaking a sweat.

…Until I heard footsteps approach the showers.

“Anyone in there? I'm about to lock up.”

He trudged forward, and my heart sunk to my gut.

“Kenzy? Coach?”

He didn't stop. His strides didn't break. He kept moving. Until he got close. Close enough to reach the door. Close enough to see me in the da—

The showers burst to life, spewing water across the space.

I jolted, but before I could hit the door, steady hands enveloped me from me behind.

I felt him press against me as my body soaked up his bare outline.

Someone was in here the entire time?!

I tried to nudge the perv off, but just before I could struggle…

“I'll lock it up” he answered.

That voice. That person. That barely clothed outline clinging to my body. Was…

“Oh, Max” the figure from outside pulled back. “I… thought everyone had left.”

Max?

He felt my lips part against his palm, and pulled me tighter as water drenched us both. My hoodie clung transparently to my breasts, nipples hard and peeking under fabric.

“Not yet” he replied. “But don't worry, I'll give the keys to coach when I'm done.”

The hesitation didn't last a second longer.

“No problem then” He answered, turned, then walked away and left me with a heart pounding so loudly, I was convinced Max could hear it.

My mind drifted for the most believable lie. But there was nothing I could say or do in this position that would make him let me go scott free.

The minute the doors to the locker room closed, my fate had its hands wrapped around my throat.

“Bianca.”

His voice drove nails over my skin. This time, I couldn't shriek or run. His hands were still all over me.

He pulled even closer. I could feel his body nudge through my dampened clothing.

“I can explain” I started, the moment his hand left my mouth. “I was—”

“Sorry I'm late” he said. “We were supposed to meet behind the bleachers, right?”

What?!

Chapter 192THEO“Tiffany. For God’s sake,” I muttered. “Answer my calls.”An entire night had passed since the party. An entire night since I lost her in the haze of noise and chaos.I could still remember everything like it had happened only moments ago.I’d followed after her, trying to explain that Mika had blurted nonsense. There was nothing going on between us. I wanted Tiffany. Just her. Only her.But before we’d even made it out the back, the club had descended into pandemonium. The news claimed it was a shooting nearby. The police said they’d followed an anonymous lead and traced a raid to the same location. It was neither. It was those faces.Men in black. Faces half-hidden by the dark, but their movements were too precise, too controlled to belong to amateurs. They were trained. The same way I was trained. Maybe even fiercer. The resemblance had been too sharp to ignore.Whatever they did spread through the room like poison. One moment there was darkness. The next, absence.

BIANCAMy throat closed up. Fear crippled my body yet I hid it behind a rage-filled voice. “What the hell did you do to me?” I barked. “Where am I? What do you—”“No one's closeby” he answered, almost as cooly as he'd spoken just a moment ago. “You can scream, but only I and the night around you will hear it.”He crouched, and the sudden movement made me jerk. Fuck. Close. He's too close. His hand crept closer. I wish he'd bring it up to my face so I could bite it clean off. But his grip came nowhere near my body. “Look” he muttered, but I wasn't going to be fooled into taking my eyes off him. Those dark red eyes drilled everything but trust into me.“Get… away from me” I said through clenched teeth. He didn't react. Only turned his head slightly as if he was trying to peer deeper into my shifty eyes.“Are you deaf? I said—”He pulled, and my hand suddenly flung towards him… only to stop just before his face. But he wasn't holding my hands. Those were—“Chains” he said. “I had

BIANCA A light buzz hummed down my body after the last shot. I couldn't even tell who'd handed it to me, but somewhere in this sea of bodies, someone who wanted me drunk and useless tonight. My throat had become slick and bitter, my tongue heavy and unresponsive after the third shot of tequila. But none of that really mattered. Nothing compared to ecstasy pulsing inside me because I'd finally won.If last night didn't prove it, then this morning was definitely all the confirmation I needed. Max was mine. All mine. “Bianca, you're fucking wasted” Kimberly laughed. Was that even Kimberley? Not sure, but my mind pretty much registered every brunette around me as a Kimberly right now. She'd been giving me lap dances since my fourth shot, and I'd taken the fifth straight out of her mouth. Unsurprisingly, she was as tipsy as I was, but it didn't stop either of us from having a good time. This was the last weekend before exams started, the least we could do was wrap things up with a b

BRIANI never imagined I’d be walking my brother into a club.I guess all those years of adolescence I’d missed hadn’t completely blown over just yet.Beside me, Max didn’t seem the slightest bit fazed by the booming music or the putrid stench of alcohol. Evidently this wasn’t his first rodeo.I wondered what—“Can you stop with the overanalyzing and whatever else you’re soliloquizing?” he said. “I can feel your thoughts boring into the side of my head.”What a bundle of joy he was.“Now, who did you say we were looking for? This place feels more like a frat party than anything else.”“Jon Becker.”I’d given Max the whole briefing hours earlier, but I wasn’t surprised it had gone in one ear and out the other.“Marcus’s handler.”“And what would a man like that be doing in a place like this?” Max murmured as we stopped at the bar.The music was slightly less deafening here, but the constant flashing lights made it hard to see anything clearly beyond the dancing bodies and the unimpresse

THEOI was beginning to regret taking this job.Simply put, I just couldn’t handle it. I couldn’t handle Mika. There was always something up with her. If it wasn’t the house being too humid, it was it being too quiet. If she wasn’t starving—even after I’d ordered enough food for four people—she was complaining about food poisoning before she’d even taken a bite.Honestly, it was like taking care of a child. A pestering, violent, twenty-two-year-old child. And last I checked, the Wayne assignment hadn’t said anything about becoming a babysitter.I crashed onto the couch in the living room and flung an arm over my eyes, trying to numb the phantom ache in my temple. Mika had “accidentally” flung a vase at my head that morning for walking in on her while she was changing. She had been changing IN MY ROOM.“Bertrand, how much longer is she going to be with us?” I asked.“Three months. I’m pretty sure you already know that, sir,” he answered, his voice a little too light for someone who sh

BRIANI had a little too much faith in a relationship as broken as ours.I’d sent the text hours ago. I wasn’t even sure if he’d read it. Yet here I was, drifting across the empty training facility like I knew he’d be here. Like Max hadn’t already made it clear that he hated me with every bone in his body. The lights were half-dimmed. The mats still smelled of old sweat and rubber. I wrapped my hands slowly, methodically, more to give my fingers something to do than out of any real hopeEven if he didn't show up, getting a few minutes of cardio didn't seem like a bad idea. I'd half-accepted my fate, when the door suddenly creaked open behind me. I didn’t turn right away. Not until I heard the soft thud of the door closing, then the quiet sound of footsteps that stopped just inside the room. When I finally looked, Max was standing there in a black hoodie and training shorts, bag dropped at his feet. His expression was pure ice.No greeting. No questions. Just that same look he’d worn
