BIANCA

It hadn't registered as quickly as it should've that the basketball team returning from camp meant Max was back too.

Unsurprisingly, Ellie swooned all over him from school up until dinner, but for some reason, I couldn't nudge the feeling that he'd glance at me a lot more than usual.

“I think I'll head to bed now” I excused myself when I noticed how frisky the pair of lovers had gotten, and how unbothered they were that I was on the dining table as well.

Ellie made a half-hearted attempt to call me back. A signal that meant she wanted some alone time with her boyfriend, and I happily obliged.

Drifting into the kitchen to do the dishes, I subconsciously replayed the day in my head.

Wade. Max. Literature Class.

That's when it hit. A cold slap at the back of my spine.

I didn't find out who “he” was. The guy from last night.

My muscles tensed. My lungs constricted without warning. I hadn't even noticed how still my body had become until something cracked in my grasp.

By the time I glanced down to notice, I felt him right behind me.

“Did you mean to do that?”

Max's baritone drove waves up my spine. Without thinking, I let go of the glass tumbler, and he caught it just before it could hit the ground.

Heat rushed up my cheeks. I staggered back in embarrasment, feeling his scent warm over me.

“Sorry I…”

He didn't even interrupt. I just stopped talking. As if looking away would spare me the red-faced moment, I glanced at the sink instead.

Through the corner of my eyes, I saw him tilt. Assessing. Judging.

“Apologies if I spooked you” he said. “But you were gonna hurt yourself if you squeezed any harder.”

I looked back at him and noticed the gaping crack on the glass before he tossed it into the trash.

When he turned back to me, I stared down immediately. The suddenness must've rubbed him the wrong way, because he didn't say anything after that. Just walked off.

And as he did, guilt struck my fiddling fingers.

Why was I so nervous? Especially with someone that was anything but a stranger.

“Max?” I hesitantly called out. He stopped right by the kitchen door, then turned back at me.

“Yeah?”

I composed myself. As best as I could.

“Thank you. For today. With… Wade.”

For a moment… one glimmering moment… I could've sworn he smiled in response.

“Anytime Binx. Goodnight.”

He walked out, and left behind… that name.

Binx. I'd forgotten he used to call me that.

Before… ugh. Not that it matters now.

I finished the last of the dishes, made my way passed the oddly quiet dining table, and back upstairs.

The wooden floorboards creaked underneath my feet as I reached the attic, as if to announce some eerily ominous destiny the closer I got.

I didn't pay it much attention…

…Until I saw the attic hatch open.

My feet stopped in place.

As nosey as Ellie was, she'd never enter and snoop around if I wasn't already in. Besides… she's supposed to be in her room with Max.

Then who's…

A rustle cut through the silence, and my heart dropped to my stomach. Wait. No.

I wanted to rush up the loft ladder, but my body moved slower than it should've. Slow enough to allow me catch his figure sitting on my bed. Back turned to me. And my secret stash on his laps.

One hand held my mask. And the other, my lingerie from last night.

Fuck!

I should’ve run. Avoided this like a bad dream. Begged the earth to open up and swallow me. Instead, I walked into the room… and shut the hatch behind me.

He straightened, hearing me behind him.

“Max. What are you doing?”

He didn't answer. Not at first. Not until he looked back at me with those piercing dark eyes.

“Shouldn't I be asking you the same thing?”

I marched down to him, shoving the embarrassment as far down as it could go, and pulled the box out of his reach.

“Give it” I ordered, gesturing to my mask and lingerie. “Give them to me.”

Something playful trotted in his eyes.

“Take them” he toyed.

I lunged in, and he leaned back, shifting to the side until I collapsed first against the cotton sheets.

I turned to look at him, and he towered on top of me, looking down in a way that rolled spikes over my flesh.

I could feel the heat from body, and as if he noticed, he leaned closer. Until his breath steadied over my neck.

“Max—”

“What?”

He said it so innocently. Like he didn't know what he was going. Like he…

“You're the one holding my shirt.”

I suddenly noticed the silk feel to my hand. My fingers already starting to mindlessly wander over his buttons.

Let go. Let go Bianca! Why won't I let go?!

“Does that mean I have permission to this?”

I felt his fingers tug against the hem of my loose, oversized shirt. He slipped underneath, gliding over my skin as it creeped dangerously closer to my nipples.

“Max. Please” I huffed. “We shouldn't be doing this.”

“Then tell me to stop” he traced circles with his nails just underneath my boobs. “Tell me you don't want this. Let go of my shirt.”

I would've. Fuck, I should've. By my body betrayed my mind, and my hands curled tighter into his shirt.

His breath on my neck turned to slime as his tongue painted warm strokes over my skin. His hands ventured forward, cupping my bare breasts while he caressed my nipples.

“Nghhh”

“Shh” he dragged his mouth off my neck. “I'm gonna need you to be quiet.”

He leaned in and captured my lips. Soft. Gentle. Grounding. I could taste the flavours off his tongue, bursting at the back of my throat.

And then, it cracked!

My eyes sparked open, and my body jolted awake. Buried underneath the scent and sweat, my consciousness returned.

That was… a dream?

I ran my hands over my face, then into my hair. No way. Why the hell was I dreaming about that? About him?!

A ding shot across the silence, and my attention tilted to my laptop beside my wet naked body. I must've fallen asleep while…

My eyes caught the message. A new message. The same person from last night.

“Running away?” It simply read.

I don't know if it was the drowsiness still laden in my eyes. Or the stubbornness boiling in my heart. Or the fact that thinking about it just turned my mood upside down.

Whatever it was, I didn't expect my response to be so gutsy.

“I'll see you in school tomorrow. Behind the bleachers. Before class. Be there.”

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    Dynamic Duo

Chapter 192THEO“Tiffany. For God’s sake,” I muttered. “Answer my calls.”An entire night had passed since the party. An entire night since I lost her in the haze of noise and chaos.I could still remember everything like it had happened only moments ago.I’d followed after her, trying to explain that Mika had blurted nonsense. There was nothing going on between us. I wanted Tiffany. Just her. Only her.But before we’d even made it out the back, the club had descended into pandemonium. The news claimed it was a shooting nearby. The police said they’d followed an anonymous lead and traced a raid to the same location. It was neither. It was those faces.Men in black. Faces half-hidden by the dark, but their movements were too precise, too controlled to belong to amateurs. They were trained. The same way I was trained. Maybe even fiercer. The resemblance had been too sharp to ignore.Whatever they did spread through the room like poison. One moment there was darkness. The next, absence.

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    Gonna Be Good Friends

BIANCAMy throat closed up. Fear crippled my body yet I hid it behind a rage-filled voice. “What the hell did you do to me?” I barked. “Where am I? What do you—”“No one's closeby” he answered, almost as cooly as he'd spoken just a moment ago. “You can scream, but only I and the night around you will hear it.”He crouched, and the sudden movement made me jerk. Fuck. Close. He's too close. His hand crept closer. I wish he'd bring it up to my face so I could bite it clean off. But his grip came nowhere near my body. “Look” he muttered, but I wasn't going to be fooled into taking my eyes off him. Those dark red eyes drilled everything but trust into me.“Get… away from me” I said through clenched teeth. He didn't react. Only turned his head slightly as if he was trying to peer deeper into my shifty eyes.“Are you deaf? I said—”He pulled, and my hand suddenly flung towards him… only to stop just before his face. But he wasn't holding my hands. Those were—“Chains” he said. “I had

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    Dream or Nightmare

BIANCA A light buzz hummed down my body after the last shot. I couldn't even tell who'd handed it to me, but somewhere in this sea of bodies, someone who wanted me drunk and useless tonight. My throat had become slick and bitter, my tongue heavy and unresponsive after the third shot of tequila. But none of that really mattered. Nothing compared to ecstasy pulsing inside me because I'd finally won.If last night didn't prove it, then this morning was definitely all the confirmation I needed. Max was mine. All mine. “Bianca, you're fucking wasted” Kimberly laughed. Was that even Kimberley? Not sure, but my mind pretty much registered every brunette around me as a Kimberly right now. She'd been giving me lap dances since my fourth shot, and I'd taken the fifth straight out of her mouth. Unsurprisingly, she was as tipsy as I was, but it didn't stop either of us from having a good time. This was the last weekend before exams started, the least we could do was wrap things up with a b

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    Finding Jon Becker

BRIANI never imagined I’d be walking my brother into a club.I guess all those years of adolescence I’d missed hadn’t completely blown over just yet.Beside me, Max didn’t seem the slightest bit fazed by the booming music or the putrid stench of alcohol. Evidently this wasn’t his first rodeo.I wondered what—“Can you stop with the overanalyzing and whatever else you’re soliloquizing?” he said. “I can feel your thoughts boring into the side of my head.”What a bundle of joy he was.“Now, who did you say we were looking for? This place feels more like a frat party than anything else.”“Jon Becker.”I’d given Max the whole briefing hours earlier, but I wasn’t surprised it had gone in one ear and out the other.“Marcus’s handler.”“And what would a man like that be doing in a place like this?” Max murmured as we stopped at the bar.The music was slightly less deafening here, but the constant flashing lights made it hard to see anything clearly beyond the dancing bodies and the unimpresse

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    He's My Boyfriend

THEOI was beginning to regret taking this job.Simply put, I just couldn’t handle it. I couldn’t handle Mika. There was always something up with her. If it wasn’t the house being too humid, it was it being too quiet. If she wasn’t starving—even after I’d ordered enough food for four people—she was complaining about food poisoning before she’d even taken a bite.Honestly, it was like taking care of a child. A pestering, violent, twenty-two-year-old child. And last I checked, the Wayne assignment hadn’t said anything about becoming a babysitter.I crashed onto the couch in the living room and flung an arm over my eyes, trying to numb the phantom ache in my temple. Mika had “accidentally” flung a vase at my head that morning for walking in on her while she was changing. She had been changing IN MY ROOM.“Bertrand, how much longer is she going to be with us?” I asked.“Three months. I’m pretty sure you already know that, sir,” he answered, his voice a little too light for someone who sh

  • Roommates With My Best Friend's Boyfriend    Brotherly Truce

BRIANI had a little too much faith in a relationship as broken as ours.I’d sent the text hours ago. I wasn’t even sure if he’d read it. Yet here I was, drifting across the empty training facility like I knew he’d be here. Like Max hadn’t already made it clear that he hated me with every bone in his body. The lights were half-dimmed. The mats still smelled of old sweat and rubber. I wrapped my hands slowly, methodically, more to give my fingers something to do than out of any real hopeEven if he didn't show up, getting a few minutes of cardio didn't seem like a bad idea. I'd half-accepted my fate, when the door suddenly creaked open behind me. I didn’t turn right away. Not until I heard the soft thud of the door closing, then the quiet sound of footsteps that stopped just inside the room. When I finally looked, Max was standing there in a black hoodie and training shorts, bag dropped at his feet. His expression was pure ice.No greeting. No questions. Just that same look he’d worn
